you need explicit permissions from Fulp to upload video. at that point you can ask about size restrictions

check your import settings for vegas. if it imports to the vegas timeline then you have to stretch the timeline manually in vegas to encompass the entire animation

Response to: "Can you handle Wobblecat's swag?" Posted January 9th, 2013 in Animation

it was pretty...bad...

Haha sorry buddy, it just wasn't very appealing to look at or listen to.

also for future reference post like this should go into the "animation 'regs' thread" to cut down on forum spam

never meaning to discourage though! keep working on it and you'll get better! try not to animate randomly for the sake of random, but try it with a purpose!

Sorry about that.. Ok, here it is Iris! Not Irish!

it doesn't look choppy to me. sometimes slow zooms get a bit wonky in flash. what i'd suggest is finishing out the scene then see if you still have problems. and always remember to test drive your film in high and low qualities. sometimes chop and other issues are caused by a busy scene and swf's are purely processor driven

looks like a good start. some of your animation is a bit shaky but your art seems pretty good.

good luck with your movie and i hope you find plenty of people to help you out!

Response to: New to Everything! Posted January 9th, 2013 in Animation

Welcome to NewGrounds!

You seem to have a great grasp on your style and animation. a big thing i notice though is your pacing.

i remember way back when, they used to give flack to the animators on the Simpsons for using extended poses and long non-moving expressions to fill time gaps in their show.

i feel that your first episode could have been half the length and be just as good if not better. a lot of the scenes just drag on too long.

i like your style and character designs, but i would only say to clean up your lines a bit. some frames are very smooth and some quite shaky. and i noticed some unnecessary re-drawing on some parts, like a shirt redrawn when only the head or mouth moves. this causes unnecessary movement in the scene.

I really like what you're doing though, keep up the good work and i'll be keeping an eye out for more

Response to: Problem with a flash and sony vegas Posted January 9th, 2013 in Animation

here's a few bottom lines since i don't know your EXACT problem.

always double check your publish settings in the file menu. there are more options in there that cause headaches than anywhere else.

also try exporting as MOV. flash doesn't export anything as anything well, but it does MOV better than the rest.

no problem.

after i establish some ground rules/basic in tutorial fashion, i'm going to go about one that will be very helpful for you, character design with animation in mind.

you don't want to go drawing a masterpiece of a character over and over and over, that's where you lose details and continuity. i'm going to show how to design and draw characters with having them animated in mind for the end result.

stick around and keep an eye open!

Response to: Help with "shaking lines" Posted January 8th, 2013 in Animation

using the black arrow (keyboard shortcut "V") select the lines you want to "Shake"

you'll want to convert them to a movieclip (F8)

double click the movieclip to enter it's edit in place mode

now you have 2 options here

F7(blank keyframe) and redraw the line
or
F6(insert keyframe) and modify the line slightly

after exiting and the line you made the movieclip will have a "shake" to it

Response to: Animation Techniques Request! Posted January 8th, 2013 in Animation

you're in luck Luis, Terkoiz himself covered this very topic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1Cw6zoyF-0

to achieve the effect you want to animate the person moving n 3d space first, and you won't notice that it's 3d. but when moving the background to a new perspective you get that feeling.

Good Luck and Happy Animating!

i totally just noticed that's what's wrong, good post!

the anchor point(white dot in free transform mode on a symbol) always has to be in the same point.

an even better practice than this is to change the "orientation" or position of the drawing inside the movieclip/graphic/etc

Response to: Pointers Posted January 8th, 2013 in Animation

hey that was adding up to a nice animation/story!

sorry i didn't post yesterday but i just saw this thread today.

I'm planning to make a few weekly/monthly tutorials geared towards animation and beginners to intermediate users like yourself. i was in your same boat, i used the line tool for say 5 years then the brush tool when i still only had a mouse haha. one of the first tutorials will go over the basic styles, classic tween, shape tween, Frame by frame, frame by tween, character rigging, and even some motion guides and 3D.

for now i can tell you that if you're looking to be a FbF brush animator, you're gonna be using the F7 key a lot. Blank keyframe. you will be redrawing every frame over, no symbols

Response to: Need some help with a Tween Walk Posted January 7th, 2013 in Animation

Put your key frames down. Then go back and hallways between those frames reposition each segment. Then go back and cut those Tweens in half again by repositioning. You'll get it right eventually. Also take care to add bounce and exaggeration to your movements

the lowest pressure depth of any tablet is 512 levels. flash work in about 30 levels. you'll never see a difference. try adjusting your settings for the tablet itself to "firm"

Response to: Brighter Color and your Enjoyment Posted January 6th, 2013 in Animation

color affects mood. desaturated colors make for a more dreary feel to a scene. while bright and "absolute" colors have a happier mood to them. go with what your scene calls for

With this down, do I need to know about scene switching if it'll come in handy for specific things?

sorry wrote that backwards.

gotoAndPlay(1, "Scene 2");

where 1 is the first frame of scene 2. you have to make a new button called scene2Button or what have you and have the same function of a click listener.

then again if this is the only AS you have in the movie is the buttons then i'd switch to AS 2.0 and just use AS on the buttons themselves and it'll be much easier on you

on(release){
gotoAndPlay(1, "Scene 2");
}
Response to: Making a menu with multiple buttons Posted January 5th, 2013 in Animation

stop();
scn_1btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, playScn1);
function playScn1(e:MouseEvent) {
gotoAndPlay("Scene 2, 1");
}
Response to: Clean Lines in Flash Posted January 5th, 2013 in Animation

At 1/5/13 01:39 AM, Novymation wrote: Hey guys! Im an amateur in animation and a huge problem im having at the moment is a lack of line quality in adobe flash. No matter how carefully I try to draw my chracters or outlines, they end up shaky and unappealing. Im currently using a wacom bamboo create and I have been considering switching to an intuos 4 because I hear it can improve line quality. Does anybody have any tips or tricks (on using flash or just general advice for drawing on a tablet) regarding line straightness or smoothness? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

(I use adobe flash cs6 pro and usually use a smoothing setting of 0 or 15 at most with pressure sensitivity turned on)

Push your smoothing to 35-40 and draw faster. The more time you spend on any particular line will cause more shake. If you're doing backgrounds or non animated parts, I recommend the line or pen tool. Perfect lines that are much easier to edit. Hope this helps
