Animatic Script. Posted December 17th, 2012 in Writing

I just realized in my rush of feverish energy that I didn't do the collab thread correctly, and I am not enough of a veteran to start one. So, since it's pretty much writing at this stage, and it's way too big to actually post here, plus the ' symbol keeps screwing up, I will leave a link to my writings of the animatic script to the Voltaire song "This Ship's Going Down". Give me any thoughts you might have.

And the song this animatic is for.

Since this isn't working well, simply copying and posting it, I'll link to the google document that has the full animatic script on it.

So! Any animators or artists, or even someone with a sketchpad and scanner, who wants to join this project, and make this Voltaire song come to life with imagery and movement?

The following is an animatic idea from me, Zachary Ben-Saul, for the Voltaire song âEUoeThis ShipâEUTMs Going DownâEU. With each line of the song comes the idea of the sketch to be shown in the animatic. There are 13 members of the crew, the crew being dubbed âEUoeMisfortuneâEUTMs PrivateersâEU, and I thought 13 was a good number because superstitious sailors are uneasy with that number. First comes the crew listing, then comes the lyrics.

Captain Voltaire (His story is told through the song, and his narrative lends the other character's life of their own. Plenty of character, likable.)
Cabin Boy (A lovestruck little kid, despairing that he will never see his foreign love again.)
Chinese Cook (A Chinese cook who wonâEUTMt let even the storm stop him from fricasseeing a sea anemone at the bottom of the sea!)
Crow (Seeing certain death all around him in the lookoutâEUTMs nest, he drowns his fear in rum.),
First Officer Williams (Somewhat like Lieutenant Williams at Raven Rock; awkward, bumbling, prone to mistakes, simply doesnâEUTMt know what went wrong?)
Seaman Shaft (A nasty jerk who stuffs his pockets full of gold while everyone sinks. Then, he pushes people off his lifeboat so he keeps all the treasure to himself.)
Gaunt Ratface (A skinny and scruffy looking fellow, gets shoved off the life raft by Seaman Shaft with an oar.)
ShipâEUTMs Priest (Gives one last sermon for the doomed sailors, giving a screaming prayer to God with the sea spray whipping all around him.)
Navigator (A bookish looking fellow with a backpack full of scrolls, bailing out the ship with a bucket, and is one of the sailors with the ShipâEUTMs Priest in the end.)
Rigging Man (We see him trying to cut the sails, and is with the ShipâEUTMs Priest at his final howling sermon.)
Burly Boatswain (Big strong guy, we see him mostly trying to save the ship, with the Captain at the end.)
Gruff Veteran Goldman (A grizzled and bristled old sailor, as the ship splinters around him he simply lights a cigar and gives a salute to Death, who appear before him.)
Records-keeper (A bookish looking fellow as well, earlier he is trying to save his books, and later drowns alongside the Captain.)
The RiggerâEUTMs Cat (The only survivor, we see him with the Rigger at the sermon, but he hops into a small wooden barrel bobbing along, and the barrel closes shut).

Fightsplosion, that's the name of the game! Fightsplosion is where two web-comic artists (or any other type of artists) duel with their characters. This is a fighting tournament between characters created by the different talented people here, brought to life through comic pages with lots of action and laughs. At least, that's how I would describe it.

As for characters, you are not limited to characters from your comics. You can pretty much enter anyone as long as he/she/it is not too overpowering, not a sprite, and is yours to begin with. Ask someone in charge for permission to use television, video game, or Newgrounds characters. Make sure you include the following details:

- name of the character
- a picture of the character, drawn or otherwise made by you.
- abilities, weaknesses, and quirks (if any)
- short bio or description of his/her/its personality (if any..)

I would suggest you enter someone who is battle capable and at the same time amusing.

What to do when the fight starts? Just go to the thread you're supposed to be fighting in and there you'll see/read what kind of arena you and your opponent will be putting your characters in and who'll post pages first. If the moderator (me or any person I can convince to join this caper) is kind enough, he/she will include the rules, including some do's and don'ts, how many days you have to post your pages, how many pages you can post in a turn, etc. If not, then there will probably be a rules thread that will pop up somewhere...or something like that.

Usually, fights go like this:

- person 1 intro page/s
- person 2 intro page/s
- person 1 fight page/s
- person 2 fight page/s
- person 1 fight page/s
- person 2 fight page/s
- *voting*
- victory pages of whoever won

Yeah, as you can see, the victor is usually decided by vote. USUALLY. Sometimes there are people who drop out, so there are people who win by default.

SO! Anyone interested? If more than one person is interested, we'll do a tournament! But then I wouldn't be able to participate. Unless a moderator took responsibility. I feel this project has great potential. And an opportunity to flesh out characters.

Just reiterating it. SOPA has not passed. It's on pause for a month. Calm down. It won't pass, not a chance. It's a clear breach of the First Amendment.

Calm. Down.

Now, this isn't complete, but this is what my digitalization of the page is looking like so far, without shading. Does it work? I'm trying to keep the form of what I've drawn, but make it neat, and colored, and all that. Professional, you know?

About the female, she needs to have her curves continue, someone's chest doesn't just loose it's shape once it's clothed. Good, great, clean work, but it seems too much like a shape instead of a torso, it need more shaping and the like. I'm sorry if I'm not making sense here, but that's my input. You are great, by the way.

Alright, I've returned from a long trip away, and I've gotten a little neater, the boxes, lining, all that. Still need opinions. Here's one thing..
And link for better quality I suppose:

So, any opinions, advice? Should I try coloring it?

It's not another pony, but I got a guide on Spike, and I think it's turned out better than the ponies! This took me three hours, including color and ink, four.

For some reason, I can't shrink down my computer base one, it's too big. Is this link alright for now?

Well, I'm back, and I've improved. It's impossible to find my old thread and it's not really relevant to the stuff I'm making now. But hey, hey is for horses. But is Democracy? I'm drawing, don't groan, My Little Pony. I'm giving it a mix with Fallout, to give it theme and as I was told, reference. I'm getting better with details and clothes I believe. Plus, I'm making some propaganda posters, please tell me what you think.

Am I able to post more than one picture in a post? Because I don't know how. Help with that too if you could.

Huh. I post something at least requiring a little thinking, and plenty of opportunity for amusing results, but a thread titled "Wow! I touched a tit!" Actually gets a response at least. You don't see anyone F5 bombin' this thread.

His question has been solved, please restri- why do I try. Fine, he got his answer, do whatever wrap up dick jokes that are traditional on the forums. My work here is done.

Failed Advertising. Posted October 12th, 2011 in General

My class assignment for ELP is to search for a company that, in short terms, fails at advertising. They do it bad, be it effects, writing, they're idiots that make the unintentionally offensive stuff, that stuff. My challenge is for someone to find the worst advertisement they can in...4 hours. My current choice is that Dr. Pepper Ten thing for excluding a large customer group with their wording.

And since I might actually get something if I offer a non-existant reward..you get an internetz cookie? Yeah, it's stale from 2002.

Or an attempt at drawing a comic, but thats doing me a favor. I need the practice..trust me, go with the cookie.

And buddy, this isn't my first forum.

By the nature of your post, I think you're one of those types that just won't stop and you're panicking like any addict does. To put it in simple terms, you might be overdoing it, too much, and your body is telling you to tone it down. Comprende?

Oh wow! I touched a tit! Posted October 12th, 2011 in General

There is no such content in this thread, no reference to the inappropriate material excluding the case of the title. This is a social experiment by me to see how many views the idiotic threads like this get. If you have any comments to help with this study of online behavior, or you just want to vent on this, whatever. It's all data to me. And be honest, why did you check this thread? Hoping a guy posted a pic before getting banned? Wanted to give congratulations on it? Make a joke on sexuality? Or perhaps, as rare as a unicorn jedi, you came to try and make reason?

And with that, I sit back and see how the first few posts will be jokes and insults. Maybe someone will give a speech on the "free nature" of the internet.

This is definetly a topic worth pursuing. Lets list it with all important topics to be examined, like "Photoshop my doche-nozzle Ex" or "Would you tap that?" and of course, the all cultured debate on "Lol I'm a brony and...discuss!"

John and Jack are walking through the ranch, John says "Now son, riding ain't that hard. You just need to show 'em who's boss." They arrive at the corral, John says,"Look, here's how its done." RD is sleeping in the corral, John jumps onto her back. He looks over to Jack saying,"See? Now it throws you around a bit, but thats-" RD looks mad, and smashes through the corral gate, Jack just says,"...huh." Now to John, his face looks like its in one of those gravity tests for space travel, and hes saying,"What in the name of merciful g-d?!"

Actually, the other guys were right. I just thought a sketch would be more helpful than saying the lines. But I guess I post what they are saying when I'm on the computer. My phone can't handle too much text.

I was told to ask here, Draw this? Posted October 2nd, 2011 in Art

I want to submit something, the joke is solid, but I can't really draw it out well. I'm hoping someone will see this and volunteer to draw it out for me? It's characters are John Marston, his son Jack, and Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony. The Marston's are from Red Dead Redemption.

I really hate furries, and I'm glad someone is making a point here on the forums. I have two cats and a puppy, I wouldn't be able to live with it if a furry managed to get their filthy, disgusting hands(I'm sorry, paws) on my pets. Someone with a mental sickness like that, well...

This is great stuff, so with all this, and Luis telling me to submit a rough thing for comics in the sketch category, and then improve it, can you tell me how the joke and content is in this, and then I'm going to try using all the advice given so far.

This is really good information, again, thank you so much. But there is another problem I'm having. I tried inking the work, and I used colored pencils for the inside, but when I uploaded it as a gif it was absolutely bleached. See? How can I get around this?

Very useful stuff for me to know, thank you. I think I'll print the instructions out. Anyways, I got more stuff, some of it is more for the punchline than the graphics I guess. And I'm thinking of making a comic of some stuff maybe. Are comics allowed in the art portal, if I really work on the quality?

I haven't been scouted or anything, but I thought I could ask an opinion of my stuff so far? On both the art quality and the humor, if the piece is meant to be funny. So do I place links to my submissions on Newgrounds, or do I place an image per post? How does this work? I guess I'll wait until I know what to do.
