I really hate classical music that is never the same thing twice, theres no way to expect whats next, and the really good bits only last a couple of seconds...

Repetition is a key element to not just classical music, but any music. Music that jumps around like an ADD child often loses the audiences interest because it moves too quickly to set in any kind of familiarity. Like watching the sky shift colors like crazy fast. You're enthralled for a while but then your eyes get tired and you just want to look away.

It's important to use repetition, every great composer uses repetition in several ways, whether it be adjusting the motif a few intervals, or changing the intervals around a bit while retaining the same shape kinda thing... fun stuff.

I believe he means changing keys throughout the song. Like going from B major to D Major. It can really has some awesome effects and some keys are exceptional at portraying certain characteristics over others, which makes the change all the more awesome.

like G minor is an emo key as far as i'm concerned. I loves it.

Still now sharing songs will be teh easy. And updating the weekly list is going to be MAD easy since we don't need screenshots anymore. I wonder if it works on blogs.

Now all you have to do is put the melody in that layer channel, the other 3 instruments will play what that layer channel says.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Here i've made the Layer channel. Notice that i've clicked on the layer channel to bring up that popup. I dragged my mouse clicked down on the green lights beside the midi channels. You click on "Set Children" here on that pop up, and those 3 midi channels are now the "slaves" of that one channel.

Okay i'll explain how I do it in three steps, because that way I said works. I'll assume you know nothing as I explain so please forgive me if I say something you know already.

First, you get your EW product out. In this example i'm using RA *Yes I have lots of EW libraries*.

You'll notice that there are 3 midi channels under the EW VST itself. If you go to the top right of the VST box you will see a box that looks like [- - -]

This is the port box. If you drag your mouse up until it hits [ 0] that means you are now using port 0. This lets you use Midi channels so you can use multiple instruments at the same time with one instance of EW.

I beleive this is more a FL question then EW. Chances are they made a layer and then added the 4 midi outputs that had the instruments as it's child. That allows you to play all four instruments at once.

Channel -> Add -> Layer

after that, click and drag the four little green lights directly to the right of the midi channels of those instruments

then in the layer button, the box that pops up will have a "Set as Children" option. Click that with those 4 lights selected. Now those four midi channels should work off that one layer channel and you should hear all 4 at once.

Hope that helped.

We had that in the old system. We had a lot of popular artists songs removed by the system because a user with a proxy clicked the "Stolen" link the necessary amount of times. How fair was it for the user who worked hard to build an empire for years, to have it eradicated by this nobody ghost. Malicious users will do anything to screw the system, to mess with people's heads.

Arguably you can then take that out of the system and the more flags the higher up the list. If people are wrong they get demerit points or if they're right they get posit-

oh wait, we have that! Say hello to your whistle!

Also we'd need much lower numbers as we don't get that kind of activity in the AP. Irrelevant point but i'd like to throw that out there.

Besides the RIAA companies etc would hardly touch an individual case. But if a large collection of artists music was being stolen and uploaded her, then they can demand a blanket statement to remove all traces of illegal music. Their first act would be of course to go ahead and try shut down the portal entirely. They might not succeed the first time, but make no mistake. If the RIAA focuses their attention then on the servers that host NG for hosting a questionable business, they'd drop them so fast. And moving servers every other month is a big problem, and very costly.

Why have random searches? Mods won't do that. Nobody is going to dig through the garbage pile that is the portal to find them.

I do appreciate talking about these solutions, but I don't see them working.

you're both being irrational and needlessly hostile. Telliath doesn't even have the license clarified yet, and frankly I doubt Telliath will get banned. Worst case scenerio the song disappears, but not him. It's not possible they'd remove him for 1) a first time offense, and 2) over something like this.

Telliath, get the license thing clarified, then we can know what to do.

In my opinion Telliath, i'd say go nuts. Contact that author first, get permission, get the license it's under. If it's CC like ours, you're in the clear as far as i'm concerned. If not, well... then I guess you have to remove it :/

no no, I get you now. Sorry, I wasn't following.

So completely do away with the ban/approve thing and let god sort em out like it is in the Flash portal you say?

In truth I would agree. But there is a reason why this is in place. It is infinitely easier to upload a stolen song then it is to steal a flash. Consider it. To steal a flash you'd have to use programs (and most people are too stupid to do this basic thing) to rip it from the site. With modern day theft prevention even these programs fail. So it's a real challenge to do it.

Now let's take an album. Plop it in, 12 songs in your harddrive, let's post dat on NG ASAP!!!!!

The Approve/Ban system is there purely to stop this, and to date it has worked. We wouldn't be dealing with one ban/remove a day. There are many malicious users who do it on purpose, and many of them will submit crap work they made just so we approve them, and then spam the portal with full stolen tracks.

As well lots of users honest to god don't now they're not supposed to. Every time I mod, out of 100 users, at least 10 of them are like "DIS IS LINKEN PARKS NEU SUNG! IT R BREAKING MAH HABITS!" and after a hearty lol, I ban them.

So we are now looking at potentially hundreds of users every day, out to upload illegal materials on NG. Make no mistake a lot of them would likely go to RIAA and be like "this account, and this site has a lot of illegal content!" - Anonymous.

And they'd come down and now the fun begins. RIAA lawsuit threads, attempts to shut down NG in total. Like there are vicious 0 bombers, there are bored bastards out there who will get a kick out of trying to break the place.

This system in my opinion was never really meant to police the acapellas, but to squash that nonsense before it starts. Ask any mod, we encounter a LOT of theft while we do mod.

When the new mod tools arrive we will be able to ban/delete songs as needed *and Unban I assume, there's a lot of that need be doing as well*.

You missed the point, if The AP became like the FP of 2003 and before *when everybodies material was clearly illegal in some way*, then Tom and staff are going to come under fire. Yes they're going to remove that stuff, but they don't have the staff members to sit down all day and remove material that is being attacked by agencies. YouTube for example, has dedicated members to sit down and deal with that kind of jargon. Maybe they get mods to do it, I don't know, i'm not a YouTube mod.

And of course, logically that means mods will have to do it if they don't. We have enough trouble validating/banning accounts as is. Suddenly now we're going to have to go through hundreds more accounts to remove/ban people as necessary?

Buy why do they have to spend time removing it? Simply because after a warning has been given, if Newgrounds fails to remove the content in a timely manner, then things get ugly even for them. Because though they won't get screwed for having the content, they will get screwed for keeping it after a request to remove it has been sent.

So they must have figured, the best way to deal with this, is to not deal with it. Rule of thumb, if you didn't make it, you didn't make it (and this is where this general concept came from).

So from this basic rule, we get our gray threads.

As BMI pointed out, Newgrounds is never under any danger, it is only wasting time really. They don't want to deal with it, and in turn the mods aren't too ecstatic to wake up every morning and deal with it either. So we leave it to their best judgement. Which is where all this chaos comes from. Again, the mods react differently to different situations.

At this stage, us audiomods cannot unban you. You must contact WadeFulp with clear details on what happened. Say

"I used some acapella samples which a mod banned me for using, however I didn't know I couldn't do that, so can I get unbanned to upload things that don't have them?"

or something like that. It should be clear and definitive. Don't give him a 50 page essay on what happened. That gets ignored.

Good luck. If nothing happens, you can make a new account, and try again (or ask to get this one deleted so you can recreate it)

it seems you are a recent victim of our gray rule "The song must be your original work".

The "The lyrics come from a public domain acapella that I sliced to fit the track" sentence probably was the grounds the mod that banned you used. There is a rather heated debate on whether acapella's are considered usable in NG submissions.

valid points.

Firstly i'd like to point, VG music was never meant to be remixes of Video Games. It was actually meant to be creations that could fit IN video games. It's not a secret video game music has become it's own genre. The types of tracks you'd hear in Metal Gear Solid 4, you're not going to hear some mainstream band perform and write, nor are you going to find it in history. It's new (somewhat)

However people started putting VG remixes into it *I assume because people thought this was going to be another OCRemix? and things went out of hand.

Like most things on NG, they are made with the intention of carrying out a purpose, but it morphs to serve another thing entirely.

Also the reason why mods exist is not because Tom felt it was necessary to put the brunt of that weight onto people for no particular reason, but because it would become a problem and end up eating all of their time.

Many users are not aware that the very reason the AP even came into being was to stop users from using copywritten music in their flashes. Every flash used copywritten music and HELL COME DOWN WITH BRIMSTONE onto NG staff from all sorts of general music lawsuits *like RIAA for example ;D*. It's not an issue with a couple dozen, but when an entire site which gets millions of hits starts holding so much illegal content, they start drawing unwanted attention.

This is the reason I can think of why they don't add that single clause. True enough it would keep the mod's happy and without much duty *yay!* but if these kinds of things started happening again NG staff will lose a lot of time and money warding off these potential lawsuits.

In short, it's easier to just make it go away then hire a lawyer to keep it. It's true Tom got a lot of emails regarding content the site holds, he was very easily able to say "Freedom of Speech, go read up on it". End of case.

you're right. You didn't make it doesn't imply "OMG YOU DIDN'T BUILD THAT PAD WITH THE APPROPRIATE TEXTURES AND WAVES!"

that's stupid. I didn't build my computer, or the program with the instrument, or the instrument that was recorded, or the recorder, etc etc.

But that library was sold to me with a full license. I am allowed to sell the songs I make with those sounds without any further royalty and I'm not even obliged to credit them if I don't want to *but you always should, come on, help a brotha out*.

The "YOU DIDN'T MADE IT!" statement derives straight for these dodgy issues. Accapella's, sampled segments, midi rips etc. This is where Mod's are divided. Some will swear by the book while others will only worry about serious violations, which is why you're getting different responses for different things. A mod can't moderate EVERY song, and some artists turn bad, so even if they were legit at one point, we can't know for sure they won't upload a Tiesto piece tomorrow.

I would go for allowing sampling and looping if that can create something new and original.
What's the difference (technically speaking) between using a rhythm loop or a rhythmical preset of "Sytrus" ?

royalty free permission to use that synth and it's package for retail purposes. FL and Image-Line clearly states that once you've bought the package, you are allowed to use it in any shape and form for complete monetary gain without royalties.

It's not under a creative commons license, the license is entirely yours. In this case things become much easier to deal with. Whether they actually bought that license or not, is beyond our grasp and control. We don't care.
