4.09 / 5.00 15,161 ViewsOkay, so I looked online at various other websites to see if anyone else ran into this. I discovered that a single flash movie file can only run for 16000 frames, and I'm guessing thats right when mine stops working. The source that I found that from said that an .flv file would work better. I'm wondering if it will work if I export the movie as an flv? This raises two questions though. 1. How do I export a movie as an flv? and 2. Will an .flv post on newgrounds?

Thanks for all the suggestions. Unfortunately I have to go to work so I'll try them when I get home and let you guys know

Can you put the scene that's messing up into a new file? See if it works... if not... how big (mb) is it?
I don't think it's necessarily the scene but rather the point in time in which it stops. Do you think maybe getting some of the unnecessary files in my library might help?

I doubt that will work, but I'll try it. If not, any other suggestions?
I'v come to the conclusion that there is absolutle NO way to fix this. I've tried everything. If anyone else has ever had the following problem, PLEASE tell me if you were able to fix it and how...
I have a movie that is about 20 minutes in length. First I had problems with the sound (along with plenty of other problems), I was able to get around that by putting the sounds into movie clips within the scenes. There are about 10-12 scenes in the movie. When it gets to one of the last scenes, there is ALWAYS a certain point in the runtime where the frame of the movie freezes and the sound continues to play. I know why the sound keeps playing but I can NOT get the frames to continue on their own. What the hell is wrong with my flash???
What I've tried:
1: Debugging the movie = same result
2: Adding a preloader before the scene where the problem occurs = same result
3: Exporting the movie from a different computer = same result
4: copying the frames of the glitching scene and pasting them to the previous scene = same result
I have tried literally ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I can think of to get this to work and came up short every time. I worked INSANELY hard on this project for a long time and I refuse to let this problem get in the way of my releasing it.
Someon PLEASE help me! Your help will not go unnoticed I promise.

You don't have to reply man. I'm asking if anyone else may have had this problem with their projects. You obviously haven't so don't bother replying.
Still didn't work. Anyone have this problem before?
well thanks anyway. I'm gonna try and maybe put a preloader before the scene that freezes so it might not happen.
At 8/16/08 10:29 AM, kiljoy96 wrote: it should work if you put this in to go to different scenes
on (release) {
gotoAndPlay("2", 1);
}
the 2 is the scene number and the one is the frame number
but i have flash 6 not 8
What if I have specific names for my scene, like for instance if the fourth scene was called "chase", what would I put in the script then?
At 8/16/08 02:02 PM, DJMAX wrote: it have a preloader? and if not get one, and if yes and still have prob, we cant really help u without the .fla to c what is happening.
I definitely have a preloader. Its just frustrating because I don't want to split the movie. Debugging doesn't seem to work either.
I've made a flash that is about 20 minutes long and when it gets to about 13 minutes, there is a certain frame that freezes and the sound continues. If I right click and click play nothing happens, but if i hit step forward one frame multiple times, the frames come up. How do I get the movie to play all the way through without freezing like that?

what do i put instead of "thingy". whats supposed to go there?
Okay so I don't know if flash 8 actionscript is just near impossible or if i'm just rusty but i'm having the hardest time assigning functions to my buttons. All I want one of them to do is go to and play the next scene, but I get an error message every time saying "statement must appear within on handler". I'm sorry, what the hell does that mean?
I have a few potential requests. I might be able to use people who are good at making backgrounds, or explosions, or even car chases. Anyone interested?

I'm with you. I love making cinema-style credits. If you're looking to simply fade each credit in and out, its relatively simple...
-Put your text in a separate layer.
-Highlight the text or just select the fram, then go to insert>create motion tween.
-If you know how to use a tween, this should be easy. Drag the last keyframe of the tween for about as long as you want the text to come up.
-After setting the length of the tween, go about 5-10 frames over from the first frame and convert it to a key frame.
-Now go back to the first frame and click it. Then click on your text. If you have the properties bar open, there should be an option called "color" with a little dropdown menu next to it. Click the dropdown menu and select alpha. Set the alpha to 0%. Now by the next key frame, it should fade up.
-To have it fade out, just do pretty much the opposite...
-Go to about 5-10 frames before the tween ends and create another keyframe. Keep that one as it is.
-Now go to the last frame and set that alpha to 0%.
If I explained this well enough, you should have a fade in and out. If you need further help, let me know.

If you know how to use the "layers" feature, then this should be easy. If not. You need to worry about learning how to use flash before you start thinking about using music. Anyway I'll do my best to explain it.
After importing the song into your library (I'm assuming you know how to do that by now), you'll need to open your library window. To do that, go to window>library. The library will pop up somewhere.
If you want to be able to see how long your music is playing for and all that, you'll need to insert a separate layer. To do that, go to insert>layer.
Once you've inserted the layer (you'll see it in the timeline), select any frame from that layer. Just click one of the rectangles. After that, go to your library, find the song, and drag it into the frame. You should see a bunch of squiggly blue lines inside the layer now. To make the music play for longer, drag the last frame of the layer over to the right for as many frames as you'd like it to play.
If you want your music to stop when the movie stops, make sure it's set as a stream. Select the music layer and go to properties. There's an option to change it next to the "sync" sign.
Let me know if you need further help.

If you
Well if you're diverse, I may be able to use you. I'm thinking of using voices in my new movie, but I've only gotten responses from like two people. Most of the characters in the movie need to sound adult-like and somewhat dramatic. Not OVER-dramatic. Just enough to be taken seriously. Also, are you able to do a russian accent? Maybe if you could provide me with some samples, I could see what you sound like and maybe use you for more than one character.
-MasterofCarnage
And now I feel even dumber because I'm pretty sure you were talking about the other guy. Haha. Oh well.
Haha. Sorry. I'm used to paying attention to how I write. I have to write alot of papers for school and it has somewhat of an effect on me.
-MasterofCarnage
I like the cameo idea. I'd love to be able to put one of my characters in it for a couple seconds if you approved.
Haha. Well never mind. I just read your other post. On that note, like I said, I don't really think anyone would care. If it's a decent enough movie, why should they?
-MasterofCarnage
If you're saying you'd like to make one yourself, I don't think anyone would object...if it's good at least. You should get some artists to collaborate with you for different characters. It might even help to get some less-known flash characters involved in order to expand your horizon. All in all, I have no problem with that idea, but I guess it's not really up to me.
-MasterofCarnage
I have the same problem, only it happens when I open big scenes. Now when I say big, I don't necessarily mean long. I have a scene that is about two to three minutes. The reason it takes so long to load isn't the length, but the fact that the images within the scene are HUGE. These large images exceed the frame and are used for panning shots and such. Personally, I HATE flash 8, but I gotta deal with it.
Your problem could be one of these...
-If you have set your frame size larger than standard and the images for it are big, flash takes forever to load it up.
-If you have a normal frame size, but there is alot of imagery and layers WITHIN the frame, that could be the problem as well.
-Your computer is slow. Or flash 8 is too high memory of a program for it. (I doubt this is your problem, because you would've figured that out).
Now I've mostly stated what your problems may be. Here are a few potential solutions if the problem is what I think it is...
-Go to task manager and just double check if there is a bunch of other crap you didn't know about chewing up memory. Go to the processes section for this. It'll tell you how much memory each program is taking up. I get this problem alot. My computer loads about 9,000 processes that are completely unnecessary.
NOTE: this next one I've never tried, but a buddy of mine tells me its good...
-My friend told me about a program call "PC BOOSTER". At least I'm pretty sure that's what it was called. What this program does is it allows you to regulate how much memory each program uses. I asked my friend if this would screw up my programs and he told me "absolutely not. it monitors everything and keeps it all working fine". If I had actually used this program, I'd tell you more in detail. I would try it out just to see if it works. I'm sure you can download it on any torrent site (isohunt, etc.).
-Also maybe try copying all of your frames and pasting them into a new project. Save both and open the new one, see if it runs as slow.
-If all else fails, maybe just get rid of flash 8 and use an older version. They're all the same if you ask me.
Well I hope some of this helped. If not, I just wasted alot of both our time. Let me know if your problem is more complex than this and I'll see if I can further help.

Ok. This seems like a good forum to post this problem in. So lets say I have a flash movie with a bunch of scenes, all containing sounds. All of my sounds have been put into a movie clip layer and when exporting, everything works out fine. No sound delays or anything. There's just one problem. Lets say I want to pause the movie. (the only way I've tested this so far is just by right clicking and hitting pause so maybe there's another solution). Anyway, when the movie pauses, the sound keeps playing...like what an event sound does. I am positive all my sounds in the MC's are streams so it can't be that I'm exporting events. I don't know why this happens. If I were to incorporate a pause button in my movie with the "stop" function, is this still going to happen. If so, is there a way around it? Help...
-MasterofCarnage
Okay, here is my dilemma. I've been working my ass off on a new project. I'm more than half way finished. I've had just shy of about 1000 problems with my sound and I've found solutions for all of them with the exception of this one:
I was having problems with the whole sound delay thing that everyone encounters when they make long flash movies. Even when exporting as stream, the sound still progressively got delayed. So I was told in order to solve this, I had to put my sounds into movie clips. I did that and the delay was gone. Only problem now is that when my movie is played, the sound gets exported like an event. I am 100% positive that inside the movie clips, they're streams, not events. The main problem is when the movie is playing, if you were to pause it, the sound from that scene will keep playing...like what happens when exporting sound in event form.
My hope is that there is a solution for this, I just haven't found it yet. If there's any way to pause the movie AND the sound so it doesn't get messed up, I'd love to know. If anyone can help me out with this, I'd appreciate it...ALOT.

I've posted this like three times in the wrong forums. Anyway I've been working on a new flash (a crime drama called "Tactical Directive" and I get the feeling people are going to complain about having to read text. So I'm going to see what the movie would be like so far with voice acting. Only thing is I have no voice actors. If anyone is interested, please let me know. Below, I have provided a few character voice descriptions and dialogue samples so if anyone wants, they can send me a sample of their voice. Anything anyone can provide would be GREATLY appreciated and won't go unnoticed.
VOICES...
Henchman - A fairly deep, sinister sounding voice. Nothing too over the top, but just keep in mind it's a villain's voice.
Dialogue sample: "You know I don't know too many people who dress up to their own funeral"
Tom Burke - A nervous business man about to be killed. Doesn't have to sound like he's about to shit himself, just has to sound a bit scared.
Dialogue sample: "I had no choice in doing what I did. They were gonna take my family away from me"
Joseph McArthur - One of the main roles. Your typical arrogent cop. Sounds like a man in his mid-thirties.
Dialogue sample: "You know I don't understand why we can't have back-up. I mean yeah it's not a dangerous situation, but what if it turns into one"
Colin Mills - McArthur's partner. Also in mid-thirties. Voice can sound deeper or higher, doesn't matter.
Dialogue sample: "Looks like we got an audience of one up on the fourth floor over there.
David Leiman - Captain of Special Investigations Unit. McArthur and Mills' boss. Deeper voice. Sounds like a fat man.
Dialogue sample: "Alright boys, read up. Wouldn't be a day in L.A. without some business men gettin' popped"
Norman Langford - Villain. Sounds villainous. That's all I can really say.
Dialogue sample: "Apparently Los Angeles is the city of angels. The way I see it is because its where people go to get the angel taken out of them"
And a few other characters are involved, but I'd like to see how people do with these first. If any of you are interested or want to send a sound sample, send them to:
ANYTHING IS APPRECIATED. Thank you.
