Absolutely. This is a not just a collab for animators, but one for writers as well. You can do one or the other, or both.

Okay, so I have 2 ideas. One might take a bit longer than the other, so I'll let you guys decide...

1. A while back, my friend and I wrote a feature length script that consisted of three separate stories. What tied all these stories together was a satchel/safe deposit box or something. In the beginning of the story, the package is randomly passed along to someone who has nothing to do with the story until that point. Then, by the end of his story, he loses the package (he gets killed, loses it, someone else picks it up. something along those lines) and so on. If we were to do that story, we could do it in one of two ways.

THE FIRST IDEA/OPTION IS THIS:

One, we have a constant. Someone on the hunt for this package, looking to kill whoever winds up with it. This is closer to how my friend and I wrote it. And then each "scene" would be someone else with the package. The fun in this is that each author gets to decide the end of their story, and the "beginning" of the next story. Meaning they get to decide how the next person ends up with it.

My only issue with that method is it might be too hard to jam each story down to about two minutes, depending on how many animators we get. Which is why we could go with the second option for that story:

I would write the opening scene, which would be the "lead-in" for the next story. From that point, we ALL concentrate on THAT story. The last scene would obviously be the lead-in for the next story, but would end there. If the collab is successful enough, we could do another one. Leaves many possibilities.

THE SECOND IDEA/OPTION is this:

We go with a more traditional story. Maybe a group of people are being interrogated for a particular crime. One animator would do the interrogation scenes, while the others animate each person's side of the story as they tell it to the interrogator. This could be alot of fun because one of us could know all the details, while the other writers do not. We would give them clues, and whoever figures it out gets to write the ending.

Whoever is actually serious about doing this, please post which one you like better. Or, if you have another idea or want to expand upon these, feel free.

Might I inquire when the latest roster shall be posted? I would also note that if any French are discovered on the roster, we shall tar and feather them immediately.

Well I'm sure we can involve a scene that involves some comic relief. But if you strictly want to animate a scene, you can adapt something one of us writes.

Liquify, you're welcome to participate in any way you choose.

Also, people, I feel before we incept (yeah, that's right. I used the word "incept) a storyline, I should also mention that this should be a relatively dialogue-driven script. There will be scenes that call for more, but I think a strong script with good dialogue should be the main goal. So bare that in mind when coming up with story ideas.

When referring to "Top 3 Submissions", does that mean highest scoring, or most views? I've calculated mine (which is apparently 3.87) like 100 different ways and never get that number.

Response to: The Cinematic Collab Posted November 3rd, 2010 in Collaboration

I realize that it's much too huge of a project to get through, but it would be a blast, and rewarding just making one flash, but also help create 6/7 original masterpieces... stupid I know... but I can always dream.

You're more than welcome to join if you'd like.

I know you guys don't choose the music until the end, but I thought You guys might consider "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" by Edvard Grieg. Not sure if you guys are against commercialized track, but I'm sure I could get a music artist to cook up their own version. It's a little trite, but I think it could work for this kind of project. Especially a Christmas theme.

Although not my favorite Batman villain, Catwoman is certainly a very dynamic character. She's not a bad guy but not a good guy either.

It's not that I disrespect Catwoman. She's a great character...in the comics. I just feel she wouldn't work at all in The Dark Knight world. Selena Kyle would work, but Selena Kyle dressed up in a catsuit (come on, its hard enough to buy a guy in a bat suit) fighting Batman in an environment that has been portrayed as flawlessly realistic as it has. It just wouldn't work IMO.

Great input so far, guys. I think the best plan of action is for all of us to come up with a story. After that, I like the idea of each of us writing a scene in sequence. So one of us writes the opening scene, someone else writes scene 2, scene 3, etc. Then once we get the whole script worked out, we can all work out our scenes concurrently and get this done in half the time. So for now, lets all focus on a story, or overall concept, and we'll work from there. Thanks for the input guys. Lets keep it up.

I just recently watched "Mother" by Bong Joon-ho (or whatever the fuck his name is), director of "The Host". Pretty good movie. Breaks alot of revenge movie rules, but it's foreign, so thats why. Give it a couple years before America gets hold of it and fucks it up like they've been doing recently (Dinner for Schmucks, Let Me In, etc.).

Oh and since alot of people have been talking about this, yeah..."The Dark Knight Rises" is a lame title. I'd literally be happier if they just called it "Batman 3". There's just something dumb about putting a verb in the title. Especially when more than half the title is the same as the previous movie.

The Cinematic Collab Posted November 2nd, 2010 in Collaboration

Hey guys,

I've never done a collab before, but I've been animating and posting on here for about seven years so I kind of want to try it. My collab idea is relatively simple...

I want to built a story that can be told in segments by multiple animators. This would mean we, or at least a few of us would come up with the story and a sequence of scenes. Then each animator can write their own script, or have one of us do it. Then we compile all of these segments to form one original flash movie.

Bear in mind...

This would NOT be some "themed" collab like based off of some TV show or video game. This would be 100% original. I want this to be a collab for animators to really collaborate and build our own original concept. I'd like the tone of this collab to be relatively serious and (as the title states) cinematic. What I mean by that is I'd like it to play out like a hollywood-esque movie told by multiple authors (think "Four Rooms", "Sin City", etc).

This would be 100% ORIGINAL material. If this interests anyone, feel free to post. And if you can't animate, but would like to write, or vise versa, that's totally okay. I think this would be a fun project and if done correctly, wouldn't take up TOO much time.

I look forward to hearing from whoever is interested.

I didn't know about the easter eggs, but apparently I got one. Woohoo! Alot of good submissions this month. My votes are in, but I didn't take a screenshot. I voted Awesome Reach # 1 because well, it's...awesome. Hopefully my submission makes it too :D. Happy voting and good luck to all the nominees!

Response to: Existing Submission Edit Approval Posted October 21st, 2010 in Where is / How to?

Yes, the file is cached in your browser. Clear your cache.

You're absolutely right. Thank you.

I submitted a movie on saturday and it wound up winning two awards. Well today I decided to change one MINOR detail in the movie. So I went to the edit page and uploaded the new.swf file. I then changed the description saying that I made a slight change to the movie.

When I clicked continue, I got a pop-up saying that since my movie has awards, any changes to the .swf need to first be approved by a moderator and could take up to 24-48 hours. My concern was that I already changed the description saying the changes were made. So i PM'd Wade asking if he could just go ahead and approve it. He PM'd me back rather quickly saying he went ahead and approved it. Well after that I went and checked the movie and it still seems to be the old file. And when I pull up the edit page again, it still shows the old file.

My question is does it take a while to update even after a new .swf has been approved? I don't want to try uploading the new .swf again and risk messing something up. Anyone know what could be happening?

I've never used Fraps. Does it record whatever is on your screen, or just the flash itself?

Flash to DVD Posted October 19th, 2010 in Game Development

Hey guys,

I know flash can be converted to video format, but is there anyway to export a flash file directly to a playable DVD? Like some kind of program? Or even a type of video quality where there is almost no loss from the original quality? I hate getting a pixelated mess no matter what format/resolution I export in.

Tried that, still have the same problem. As for it being case sensitive, I type it exactly the same.

Menus problems with Actionscript Posted October 14th, 2010 in Game Development

Okay, so every time I have to make a menu for my flashes, I struggle. I run into the same problem every time. I usually manage to figure it out, but it's been so long, I can't remember.

I'm using Flash 8 (which I guess is ancient now, but I prefer it) and all I want to do is make some simple buttons that go to certain scenes.

For instance, lets say I have 3 scenes, simply called "Scene 1" "scene 2", and "scene 3". I'll make a button for scene 1, test it, it works fine. I check for errors and AS tells me there are none. I don't know how to write it out exactly like in AS here, but its something like:

onrelease
gotoandplay ("scene 1") ;
}

or something like that. I know I'm putting it in correctly, bottom line.

Well here's where the problems start. I'll make the same exact kind of button, only for scene 2. and it will look something like this:

onrelease
gotoandplay ("scene 2") ;
}

Should be simple enough, right? No. Again, I check for errors...none. But when I click the button, it just goes to scene 1. So I try making another button and I do the same thing for scene 3. Well surprise, surprise, it just plays scene 1.

Can someone please explain to me why no matter what scene I tell my buttons to play, they just play scene 1???

Response to: What Drives you to animate? Posted October 14th, 2010 in Animation

I look at it this way. One day, I want to be a film maker. But in my current situation, I can only do so much with a camera, some friends, and a LITTLE bit of money. Doesn't compare to what I could be doing if I were really in the business. So I look at flash as a way to do projects that have no limits. If I want to make a dinosaur burst through a burning building and eat a whole bunch of people, I don't need a couple hundred million dollars to do it. I can just animate it. Sure, it takes time, but it can be done.

One thing I think all animators on this site have learned though is that NOTHING goes according to plan. Something you think is going to take 2 months could wind up taking more than 6 months. But not knowing is the best part. You learn new things along the way. If your mind is set on it, it's quite rewarding in the end, no matter how long it takes.

Response to: Voice Actor Wanted Posted September 20th, 2010 in Audio

Okay, so this is my second attempt to recruit voice actors for my latest project. I've been noticing that after my last post, I had a lot of people say they were interested, but after I sent them lines, I got no response. The few that DID send me voices were great. So I'll say this, only respond if you are SERIOUS. And I know people have busy lives, but I'd rather not wait three weeks to receive the lines.

Here's a link to the project you'd be trying out for:

Trailer

Anyway, this time around, I've posted EVERY character and line that I need. If you are interested, please send me the lines you are trying out for A.S.A.P. This is about the only thing I'm waiting on before I release the finished product so forgive me for being a little antsy.

All the positions I need filled are for members of a SWAT team. There aren't too many lines for all of them so this is quick and easy work. And don't worry, you will all be credited. Here is the list. When delivering these lines, feel free to try a Chicago accent, even though its NOT required. If you can pull it off, go for it.

All voice tryouts should be sent to Deadpool175@aol.com

SWAT 1 (leader)

"There's nothing to worry about. We got him right where we want him. If this tip is legitimate, this is where he manufactures his weapons and armor"

"Alright, everyone. Remember, we're dealing with a cop killer here. Our orders are to bring him in alive, but if you get a clear shot...take it"

"Quiet!...You guys hear that?"

"Everybody...just...relax"

SWAT 2 (pessimistic)

"My wife keeps tellin' me this is a bad idea"

"There's nothing here. Just another bogus tip"

"Relax?! He's here. He's DEFINITELY here!"

SWAT 3 (panicked)

"He's here! He's on the roof! Send backup NOW!"

CHOPPER PILOT

"We've located the target. Looks like he's headed for the next building over."

"We've got a problem, sir. He just took everybody down."

Also, feel free to try out for multiple characters. PM or email me (Deadpool175@aol.com) if you have any questions. Good luck everyone.
