A few things are wrong with what you said. Firstly, they didn't just throw the Wii together in the span of a few days, work on the Wii started about a year after the gamecube came out. And secondly, at the time the Wii began develpoment Microsoft was not at all a powerhouse in nonPC gaming, they were a little ahead of Nintendo, and quite a bit behind if you include handhelds.

Anyway, it's not just a novelty. I still play Wii Sports. The games do get boring after a few days if you play the bad games, but the same ca be said for any system. There are good games that have lasting appeal.

Just because it's released earlier than the others doesn't mean it's not in the same console generation. That's like saying the 360 is best because it beat the Gamecube and PS2 in graphics.
