thanks for the reply FlashtooREV!

Thank you for fixing my link.. only now i noticed i put it in incorrectly..
anyway.. could you give me an example of array setup for various enemies showing appearing on screen getting its location, enemytype, and time from and array?

BlindsightGames
FlashtooREV fixed my link.. you can see it through his post..
i couldnt understand too well your explanation.. can you elaborate?
the enemies are in movie clips (enemy1 , enemy 2 , enemy 3).. and inside the movieclips its has the action script of his movement.. (like y++), i want to be able to say first comes enemy 2 at location x,y; at xxx seconds... then enemy 3 at location x,y; at xxx seconds... then etc,etc..

Topic: how to make certain type of enemies

Posted: 08/12/09 12:18 PM

Forum: Flash

I'm trying to make a game in actionscript 3, problem is.. now i have made a few enemies inside movieclips, with there own actions inside the movieclips. and i'm not sure how to call them on to the stage to appear at a certain time and location.

somehing like this game: http://www.arcadelist.com/Play_Onlin...i tle=Red-Plane

as you can see.. the enemies appear in a pre-deterined order.. which is like most games, and i wanted to know how should i proceed to do that?

should i make an array of enemies, then store another array with the type of enemy inside, location, and time it appears?
then how do i call them sequentially onto the stage?

any help or pointing me to a tutorial will be apreciated :)

Could somebody help me build this drag and drop game... i want to make it that if you drag the numbers to the corresponding boxes its stays a correct message and keeps its place while scrolling through the menu... I tried it before.. but the dragged objects would go back to the original position as soon as the movieclip would go back to the initial position.

I hope you guys get to submit that second movie.. the more.. the better.
And it wont degrade the overall quality of the movie cause its in a diferent flash movie.

2. Do you think that the last couple of days brought about some really good entries to unbalance the crappy ones that Stamper ranted about?
3. Do you think the Collab will live up to the hype?

Also as a personal question to those who entered, did you learn anything from this experience? If that's the case then even if you didn't make it in this time, you have the experience and knowledge under your belt to increase your chances in the next one. When curtains fall on this collab, that's the most important thing. :D

1. I say there is gonna be more submitions then in the blamformers collab. Hopefully they'll put as many as they can.
2. Definatly... good stuff takes time to make.. and the crapier stuff you make in an hour or so.. So i'm sure this last stretch came some pretty awsome submitions. Also by some of the screenshots i've been seeying around here.. there seems to be some good stuff.
3. I hope so.. mgs is the best game series out there, and i hope this can live up to it.

I learnt not to expect a reply from the staff about my submition when they get over 200 submitions.. :P

Anyway there have been people that have posted their parts already on the flash flash portal..
Be sure to check 'em out .
Apperanly they had some problems with their files and couldnt make it to the collab.

Yes, I've stayed and worked from 18th May around 15:00 straight to 19th May, around 5:00 AM.
Strange, I know that there'll be a lot of mails sending and it'll need time. But, some sent it in after I did and got the respond sooner.

Dont worry.. they should have a big bunch of submitions to go through.. i sent mine on the 11th and also didnt get any reply, so your not the only one. I don't think you should expect a reply, especially on the last few days.

i did base my pose off of that pic... but the detail is very diferent.. only similarity i see is in the pose. Its an artstyle i chose. If you dont like it, i respect that...
But remember.. this is for an animation.. i'm not gonna base all my poses off other images (that would be impossible).. i just wanted a pic to start for an initial design (and no.. my part wont be full of still images if that what you thought.. it'll have both tween and fbf animation).

It doesn't have to be exactly like the character looks, ya know?

Of course i know... But as i said before... its an art style i chose... and i think the more diferent each submition's art style is.. the better the collab is.
I dont see any harm in giving high detail and making it look like the real models.

Its just my grey fox design... i think it turned out pretty good...
I know it all looks very realistic and little cartoony.. but dont worry.. it will be humoristic,.. i just chose this art style.

True about the fast action pace... but i cant just send wave after wave of enemies cause it will get tedious after a while.. thats why i'm mixing a little platforming in the middle.
The important thing about the attacks in my opinion is to keep the combos enjoyable. If the combo system is good and fun.. people wont mind slashing there way through a couple of waves of enemys.

Dont worry.. all the sprites are made in vectors so i'll put them the right size before exporting them. It should all stay high quality.

Maybe you could make it a hybrid of a beat'em up and fighter, you know, like the beat'em up part is your hero(s) making their way to the boss, fighting minions and such. Once you get to a boss fight, it'll be a bit more like a fighter. I think this is somewhere along the lines of what Tekken does with the beat'em up games they include with the fighting game. Just a thought, but keep working on it, looks pretty cool and I'd like to give it a spin when it hits the portal.

Well.. its supposed to be a mix of beat'em up and platforming.. more focused on the fighting though..
Think of ninja gaiden.. it might be something along those lines..
The boss fights are gonna be a little more then tougher enemys.. i'm thinking of "having to do a certain thing to defeat them" kinda style.

I've just read through your page posts and the updates just kept getting better and better. Can't wait for more info on this and possibly some more sneak peaks.

As for suggestions:

- Fast paced, bubble text bouncing off enemies which depict the amound of health taken.
- Fast paced all round.
- Backgrounds, varied places to visit e.g. fields, warehouses...
- Decent voice acting, im sure you will find someone in the voice acting club.
- Interactive scenery? Like able to throw barrels at people or explode things.

Thank you for your sugestions..
- I like the idea.. i'll try and do something similar
- Hopefully you will have very few breaks on the game
- I'm gonna try and keep the background quality as good as the sprite quality... But i'm planning both indoor and outdoor.
- Definatly gonna have good voice acting...
- Hmm.. that will have to depend on alot... i'll have to decide in the end.

Apart from that you've got some good stuff going here. If you don't hold much flash knowledge you should probably seek out a skilled action scripter to make the most of this game.

Good luck.

They are based on the samurai showdown sprites. I mentioned it on my blog posts. The poses might be similar but the character is completely original.
I have a action scripter to help me make it. He is really good so i'm not worried about the ac.

Ok so here's the thing...
I am currently working on a sprite based beat' em up/platformer game.
The sprites are gonna be completly original and are being drawn one by one all by me.
You can see an example of the main character below and an example of the animation here ...
Well.. i'm posting this cause i want your guys opinions...
What would you like to see in a game like this? What sugestions would you give? What do you usually like/dislike in other similar games...
I am gonna give 110% for this game.. and i want the result to be pretty good.
Any opinion or sugestion for the art, programming, level design, gameplay, sounds....anything..
For more info on the game you can check on my posts in my profile.
Thanks in advance..
