He resembles Smithy for me. But the crown looks like a female one. And the beard looks like one solid piece rather than a beard. But I know this is only a sketch, I just thought I should mention it.

Other than that you can really recognize Smithy here.

The gun looks good for me, but I would like to know what you're aiming for. If you want to use them in a cartoon or flash movie, it's fine already.

If not, then the next step would be making them look metallic or whatever material you want your weapon to be made of. I dont know how to do that myself but there are many good tutorials at DeviantArt (example)

Response to: How to improve - "Lioncorn" Posted July 30th, 2010 in Art

It doesn't look wrong on the neck so far. For the rest of the body I can only recommend references, look at some and then just give it a try.

For me the shadows you have are too light, but that's also a matter of preference and what you are going for with your style, so one can't say "it's wrong".

Response to: How to improve - "Lioncorn" Posted July 30th, 2010 in Art

Besides "that lion thing", Ornery already mentioned that the muscles need a little more definition. I see some faint shadows on the neck, but the main body is pretty plain.

I have just a little problem with the horn, it looks like it's behind the head. But from the position of the head you should be able to see where the horn meets the head.

I hope you don't mind but I sketched in some lines for better understanding and also the bottom of the horn. Basicly the green line loosely follows the middle of the head (at least where I think it is) and crosses from eye to eye.

@test-object: I think the second idea sounds better, too. And I think it provides a little more space for creativity. Still I could also imagine the first one coming out good.

I have an important question: How do we keep Uwe Boll from stealing the bad movie ideas?

Ok here comes my first sketch. I'm not even sure if I find the time to finish it, but I just have to give it a try.

I'd be happy for any idea what I could add in the blank space right under the title (left of the aliens).

Well it has some lion features, the fur, the tail and the flowing hair which resembles a mane. But I agree with ornery on the rest. It could definitely use a little more lion. Still it looks good so far and I love the whole colour scheme including the backgrounds colours.

yes?

Oops! xD

BTW ReNaeNae, the voting panel sound fair enough, but there will always be some bitching. I myself for example may get bitchy if there's nothing Godzilla related among the winners.... just saying.

The starting pics are really cool in both threads. Is "Dinosaurs From Outer Space" in the contest?

Response to: [talk] B-movie Poster Art Contest Posted July 28th, 2010 in Art

Oh my god, this is one of the funniest contest ideas I've ever heard of!

Too bad, I won't be able to submit something suitable even if I increased my daily practice.

Still I'm looking forward to the hilarious entries!

Response to: Monthly Art Collab(all are welcome) Posted July 27th, 2010 in Art

Sorry, but I still don't get it. Is it a contest where everyone submits a pic, a winner is chosen and we move to the next month or is this a collab where you take the submitted picture and create a flash flipbook or something?

It sounded like a good idea in the beggining, but now I'm confused, sorry.

Unfortunately you are also breaking our beloved art forum rules. You must start every new thread with a starter pic you have drawn.

Actually I prefer the first version. And the flag in this version is a photo, right? BTW what's a VA? Just curious.... ^^

I like the eyes best. They really stand out from the mostly gray face.

Generally I like the subjects you draw. Especially Xiahou Dun, Nobunaga and Auron. They are all referenced though, ain't they? I feel like I saw something like them before. (I know you mentioned that Auron is referenced already)

You should visit posemaniacs and try some of the exercises in case you have problems when drawing without references.

Still I think your talent is beyond doubt and I'm looking forward to see more.

Haha thanks! If I knew you were going for a tentacle alien, I would have asked for a whole sock-puppet army instead. Good one!

I guess he didn't want you to remove the line-art finally. It's just a test, when you remove the lines and it still looks good, you have done a good job.

But that doesn't mean that there's no room for improvement anymore. I agree with what Kinsei said. The shading ain't bad, but a little more looks probably better. Especially the lower part could benefit from that.

Still I like it, looks like a solid sword, good for a beheading or two. ;)

ZuluCS's pic is amazing too, I just prefer Jagondudos interpretation. Reminds me a little of ferryman Charon from God of War.

Don't worry, there are many worse photographs around. Actually I think it's not too dark, so lighting in your house can't be that bad.

The drawing itself is quite good. For me, it's the best work you posted so far. I'd recommend a little more detail on the hair, but I leave critiquing to the more experienced artists around. I'm pretty sure the wings are too small though.

STRAWBERRYSMOKE!

I think the factory does look fine in grey and would make a nice contrast if you make the smoke and maybe background very colorful. For the strawberries I'd suggest red and green of course, plus I could imagine some rainbow colored smoke floating along. Just thinking....
