At 24 minutes ago, TomFulp wrote: Sorry if I'm repeating anything already said, just sorta scanned through in an effort to absorb maximum feedback. Here are my thoughts on what could be done with the Audio Portal front page, what do you think of this:

1) Expand Latest Art by one row?

In my opinion, you should even consider two more rows. Average artists hardly got more than 20 votes when it showed the 24 latest art pieces. It will probably decrease even further now. But then again people see the whole page, when they check "More new art". I think one more row is a good idea in any case. :)

2) Filter all remaining categories to only show E-T rated content. I gotta admit the amount of boobs changes the vibe... I always go to the Art Portal to see a selection of awesome art, so I don't like people coming and thinking it's just a place for boobs.

Maybe the random assortment thingy you suggested for the classics section could solve this problem to some degree already. You could try that for a month or so and turn on the filter if it does not do the job.

3) Best Art this Year needs adjustment to the sort algorithm. We are weighting things by total votes so brand new submissions can't dominate out the gate, but in this case the views on Madness might bring TOO much weight, although it's a great piece.

The total votes being considered is a nice feature to compensate for brand new submissions. But contest entries for example get more views and votes at an average than most other stuff, so there is always room for some unbalances. Same here with the random assortment, it could help to sort out some issues.

4) Perhaps high ranking classics should be a random assortment of the top 100-200. This could be true for all Portals.

I think that's a good idea and could maybe be used for the other sections too. Probably not 100-200, but a lower number.

In addition to what has been said so far, it feels to me like parents get used to push away the responsibility to companies and the legislature, instead of deciding for themselves what they want their children to hear and see.

I mean if you think the illustrations are to creepy for your kids, that's ok. But there is no need to ruin it for everyone else, just don't show it to your kids.

You wait some seconds.

You conclude that it would have been smarter to keep the squid alive in order to disable the trap. Maybe you can disable it yourself.

No, it's better to wait some more seconds. But you could take a look behind the chest in the meantime.

I did mine via aim... which is free. You can use aim express if you don't want to install anything.

I did the interview yesterday via AIM express. There is really nothing you need to distrust or be suspicious about. You can even create a new IM account if that makes you feel more safe. It was fun to talk about the project, thinking that they will evaluate our collab scientificly or something like that. Lol

I agree with ToaS, there seems to be some effort put in the content and I personally enjoyed some of them when I stumbled across them in the portal. But it is true that the art is a bit neglected, most likely in order to post new comics regularly.

Response to: Arca Designs (Art Recruitment) Posted January 22nd, 2012 in Art

I don't see the big issue here. While forcing recruits to use skype or something is an uncomfortable choice, because it will discourage people from applying, it is after all only their business, they need to make sure they can contact their "co-workers" somehow.

If it is stopping you from applying, then your point is made if you don't apply. If the appearence of their website seems unprofessional, I again recommend not to apply. If asking for religion and ethnicity seems incredibly untrustworthy and probably even discriminating to you, then you are free to not apply too.

If you decide to apply here, be aware that noone can stop from saying "hey I drew this and that and this too, while I worked for company xyz" (self promotion) no matter what a possible contract says. It could stop you from exposing it publicly at worst. And some users in here seem to mix up "self promotion" with selling the image somewhere else.

there was some sarcasm in one of the paragraphs, did you spot it?

But seriously, I wish you good luck with your project and with finding some good artist for it.

Response to: Can someone please scout me? Posted January 21st, 2012 in Art

Quote from the FAQ:

"How do i get scouted?

Do NOT ask to be scouted! Do not ask in the Forums or send the staff a Private Message about being scouted as these will only hurt your chances. Just submit at least four pieces of quality art and be patient, someone will find you!"

You do not even have four pieces of art, yet.

More info here in this scouting guide: http://ornery.newgrounds.com/news/post/3 88624

Good luck!
