Ofc I still want to improve, so here is it.. Somebody got some constructive feedback? :)
This piece I did for a friend to some cover art for his new track :)
Nice that you actually came back here, sorry for the late reply, seems like I missed when you bumped your thread.
As for the pic, I think the only thing it really lacks is some definition or I'd better say a more evenly distributed definition. For example the distant village and the closest, big rock are defined very well and you can see rather many small detail, while there are other parts like that pillar or pole in the right center, the characters body and above all his head that are undefined and kinda smudgy.
For my personal taste you could up the contrast even more. I mean add some brighter highlights, since the shadows seem dark enough already.
Since the light is coming from the huge planet, there should be some glow / light around those pillars and towers. It's basically backlighting where the center of an object is the darkest and it's lighter towards the edges.
All in all a nice piece. I hope you're not offended, but I have to ask. Did you paste parts of photos to get that rocky surface? Or is that a texture? I would be curious because it looks pretty good for the purpose.

You could try a site like tinyurl.com to shorten them to fit.
That's all I got. Sorry.
No, as far as I know links are seperated automatically to prevent promotion of websites via the author comments section. Although many people would link to relevant websites, there is too much abuse, so NG prevents it.
So I have heard....

Well usually when someone wants to kick off an activity, they start with an own example. Otherwise you can find a lot of unusual and cool stuff in the art portal via tag search.

Yes, they are still required. The group shot needs to be done by the 25th, but I am sure the avatars are needed earlier. I assume there will be another announcement clarifying this.
Thanks for the advent calendar plug! Great that artists and animators had the same idea. Next year we should work together on one even bigger, even better calendar!
Great holiday stuff going on overall! :D

Hey there, since you already made sure that the browser is not the issue and neither the filesize nor the max dimension limit is exceeded, I have one last (silly sounding) thing you could try.
Some users reported that the problem was fixed when they either resaved the file under a different name or saved it in a different folder or generally a different location on their harddrive. I know that sounds weird and I don't even know why it works, but it apparently helped some users with the issue.
At 11/29/12 09:09 PM, BostonJax wrote:
Yeah, I just got it saved as a .png
Now for whatever reason I can't seem to upload on NG's I keep getting the error message... what the heck?!
Well unfortunately this could be because of a variety of reasons. What browser are you using? Does another browser solve the problem? I guess you are not exceeding the filesize or dimension limits are you? What does the error say?
I dunno why or how that works, but for some people it appeared to solve the problem when they resaved the file under a different name or a different location (folder) on their computer.
At 11/29/12 08:52 PM, BostonJax wrote: Yeah, so I just made my first piece of work through Inkscape & as I go to save my wonderful creation I see that the only way to save is with .svg files. Does anyone know any other way to save your work without a converter?
That is weird, when I go to 'File -> Save As...' I can pick several options from the drop down menu below the filename bar. There is also "File -> Export bitmap" but I am not sure about the settings you'd have to choose in the window that appears when I click that.

The opening post says that you have to draw a full body caricature of yourself for a group greeting card. TOAS told me it would get its own deadline however. If you are done already it's probably still a good idea to start it. It's not a pleasure for collab organizers to have to hunt down last minute entries.
such as mine... :S

So is this resolved? I like what you did, Jonny.
Aigis and Template are right about the issue itself, but I understand that you like to do audio for other users for free and expected a similar attitude here. There are people out there who would probably help you with your logo for free too. I think your opening post was polite and clear enough and that this doesn't need to turn into a huge argument. Interested users could just PM you.
Maybe you can help them out with some audio in exchange some day.
Good luck.

Hi there, you might wanna browse the art forum a bit. There are actually people looking for someone to team up or helping them out with art here and there. For example:
Someone looking for a comic artist.
This user spotted a indie movie that needs aliens designed.
Colonel Magus needs his avatar desgined.
So yeah, quite some people who would appreciate your help. That doesn't mean you should do free labour for a bunch of people, just if you are looking for something to do anyways, you could look at them or browse for more threads like these.

As far as I know, there are 4 spots open, so I'd say go for it. Our friendly neighbourhood TurkeyOnAStick is currently away, but I am sure the theme you chose is ok.
@ReNaeNae: I thought the exact same. Would be nice to know if people should wait with their submissions until "their day" has passed or if we should submit before so TOAS can link to the art portal submissions.

Happy Holidays tho :)
Above that, the deadline is 16 days later. So if anyone is done with their advent calendar collab entry, they can draw something for this one. Or join here once the spots in the other are full. OR just join here cause it's a fun collab that includes animation as well.

You might hate me for saying it now that it's done, but I think the snow on the ground could use some work. Maybe a little blues and you could experimet with applying some grain to it. Besides that, I really like it. Great dynamic pose, facial expression, colors and neat linework.
@TOAS: The pic is coming along great. I like how you distributed the different roles (shepherds, three kings etc).

Hi Brendon!
Great news yet again. Looking forward to everything on that list, especially the mobile theme and the conversion servers.
Also, maybe some of the great NG artists wanna join this christmas collab hosted by TurkeyOnAStick (only a few spots left so get th while they are still hot!):
Seeing as I only just started, I don't have a lot to show, but I hope this is ok:
I pick the theme "The Grinch" if that's ok.

Look, you are right with the part where you reponded to the topic, so thanks for that. This last part however doesn't belong here. Optimally this doesn't belong anywhere, but if you want to discuss this with another user, you should PM him or take it to the politics forum.
On topic: As mentioned before, the mods usually make sure the majority of artists affected by the clipping of a user with many scoutees get rescouted as soon as possible. The only thing I'd wish for, was the option to include unscouted artists in your tag search, kinda like it works for the audio portal. Or just have the option to search in the already existing unscouted section.

Kiss kiss Lots of love
Unfortunately, these errors are not new or temporarily. It would help if you told us what browser you are using. Generally, Internet Explorer seems to have that problem more regularly than Chrome or Firefox. Additionally, you could tell us what the error message says. Your pic does not exceed the 4 million px² limit, does it?
At 11/8/12 02:40 PM, Skaren wrote: It seems as if I've been unscouted from the Art Portal, I wasn't notified about a reason or anything, can someone please explain as to why?
If you haven't been notified, chances are that the user who scouted you got unscouted. This also automatically affects you. If you remember the user's name you could check if he/she is unscouted now.
