Thanks for the advice. You think I should use MyPaint after getting better at MS Paint?

no i think MS paint is a really bad idea, learning the tool won't help you with painting.... learning color theory will help you with painting. If you're going to use a free software use Gimp or something with actual tools and isn't limited to hell.

Just use flash. It gives the crisp clean lines you love without the hassle of dealing with illustrator's tempramental baggage.

Man if you've got a crappy pc like mine flash's pen tool crashes more than a teen on a learner's car license. I love flash I really do, but the pen tool isn't one of its strong suits. With illustrator there are built in thick to thin options for the pen tol and some wacom tools even for when you're inking with a mouse instead of a pen and you wanna save some time. Also the blend tool has come in to use a lot when making patterns within inking recently. Idk I'd recommend illustrator over flash for inking, but yes its a bit harder than flash in the beginning to learn

Hahaha omg man, you're missing the point, not everyone is a greedy prick like you and would rather just see their work being put to use haha.

If anyone actually wants to take me up on this, send me a PM. I'm not here to argue with dirt farmers. If a moderator reads this, lock the thread, i'm off to bed haha.

Yeah haha way to handle this like an adult haha

Just because you would desperately want money for your work, doesn't mean everyone else would as well lol.

Or how about if you want high quality work you be prepared to spend some cash Richie Rich

Response to: Newgrounds Art Book - Discussion Posted September 13th, 2012 in Art

As for the Art Book thing, I don't think there would be much incentive to buy an art book that was just "the stuff you can already find on the Art Portal, only now on paper!" There's already a section in the art portal to show off the best art from over the years, and I don't think that a book would enhance that at all.

Actually I would absolutely buy (if i had the cash) a hardcover art book with good quality prints with the same art BECAUSE it'd be on paper. Art on paper always always looks better than on the screen and is one of the main reason I purchase art magazines in the first place, in saying that

Maybe like this?

I'm personally not a fan at all of white text over black text in print. I think have black borders around images or something like that fine, but black text on white is a lot easier to read and doesn't feel like a chore. And yes I'm aware this forum is black on white, it's still not my cup of tea. This is just my opinion of course

I know that. This is only a design for the character. Also, can we please drop the whole "draw from life" crap? I know, and I get it. I know you're trying to help, but I only wanted critique on the DESIGN. Critique the ART. Not the way I draw. Point out flaws in the ART itself.

...WHAT???

the figure looks a quite stiff and the body parts look a lot like puppet joints, I'd really suggest more life drawing as well as placing your figures on a 3/4 angle

I've had this book for so long and I still haven't been able to process all the information it gives, it's an amazing book I highly recommend!
Also to the original poster, yes last time there was a flame war, now its just people being overall frustrated with you for not listening
You know I'm all about personal expression and the right to draw whatever the hell you want,BUT basic understanding in fundamantels IS something you should force down your throat if you're serious about drawing. You should spend months and maybe more practising all the things people said you lack like composition, perspective, construction, lighting before you start experimenting.
I was also in your stage and it took a bootcamp of fuck style, learn principles to get me out of that stage. THEN when you feel more confident with perspective and seing things in 3d you can go back and start experimenting and developing 'style'. Really style is something you should never pursue, it comes naturally to you after you pick up enough basics and influences, after you figure out what you like and dont like to draw. Never try to MAKE it happen, if one day someone goes "wow thats a great style" pick that up as a hint that it is indeed developing and keep doing what you're doing.
But again basics first.

As you've already admitted, the face does look a bit feminine. And the nose has a rather high bridge.
I don't think it's much use to edit this one and re-upload it looks good enough.
But for future reference when drawing masculine faces:
- expressed cheekbones
- Adam's apple

that looks more feminine than before, those eyes look extremely female and almost as if he/she has mascara on their eyes

^this, however this is a forum full of artists, so you should probably aim to advertise in a location where the are more people who like the subjects you draw and not as much other people who can also draw
