Why bust his buzz? Don't you remember what it was like the first time you got that kind of award? You always think it's undeserved, but damn fine to get - I don't see any point in trying to ruin it for him apart from bitterness, which is pretty sad. I'd like to think the NG community was supportive of up-and-coming flash authors.

Why is a 2 day old submission up there?

If they submit it on the previous day after about 9pm (NG time) it carries over into the next days awards (because it didn't get enough votes to get an accurate score) - unless you're me last time, in which cause you lose daily feature because P-bot doesn't know what he's doing.

Weekly 3rd, woo! Not as awesome as I would've liked, but what can I say - stiff competition this week! Congratulations to everyone.

Well if your movie is going to be overshadowed, best to be overshadowed by the best - great wee clip - they seem to me to be very much teasers, it's clear you're working toward the movie dream. Man that would be so awesome, I sincerely wish you all the best - I will parasitically revel in your success seeing it can be done! Don't give up.

Weekly awards are way more prestigious than dailys as there is 7 times more competition. You also got #2 and 6 on the top 50 all all time list which is also something to be pretty pleased about...

But secondly, to be fair 2 months really isn't that long to spend on a decent flash. I'm quite suprised you managed to do all that in 2 months. Chaos Faction (my latest game, #1! woo!) took 14 friggin months to make, and I know others who have spent even longer.

It's a bloody great game! Absolutely no complaints about the weekly feature there, totally deserved - I MEAN to spend another month polishing my movies up to a stunning quality, but I never bother. Shocking really.

I'm chuffed about the weekly 2nd - I know it's the best award I've got yet, but I'm just bummed it didn't get daily feature as well, as it legitimately warranted. And it is nice having more awards on the old profile, heh. Now at quick glance it looks like part 1 isn't even worth watching!

Dusty, you're right, awards aren't everything - the frontpaging and reviews are the real kickbottom about NewGrounds - but they are nice to have too heh, and I should get what's coming to me. But you can do something about it, I PMed Tom, he's replied and is now again aware of the bug and is endeavouring to fix it and rectify the problem. Hopefully that'll mean getting the awards I deserved AS WELL AS the other people, because it's pretty rough to take it off people too lol. It's a bugger, I guess I'll be submitting my stuff at 3am New Zealand time from now on so there's less risk of being shafted in future. The point is I shouldnt have to! heh.

Thanks for your coversation fellas it's lightened the pain knowing it's happened to others too.

Oh well, you'll be blessed with a long time on the front page and tons of views from Starcraft fans, and really, popularity is better than awards. So look at the bright side.
I've had my movies miss out the day they were submitted before but they've always had their chance the next day. If you were trying to get work with something like flash, saying you've got a bunch of awards is much more powerful than 'lots of people watch my movies'
I'm not so sure about that. Anyone can give anyone an award.
However, when I say to someone, "yeah, this animation got over 500,000 views" they're usually somewhat impressed.
But yeah, the awards really do make you feel like your time was worth it

Oh yea views are definately more impressive to those in the know - but to people who don't know this kinda thing too well, they wouldn't know if something getting 120 000 views was good or not. Yea, I'd just like something tangible in my profile marking the 2 months I spent on this animation which reflects the work and just rewards a working democratic process should've yeilded in this situation, heh. We'll see how it pans out I suppose - thanks again.

If you were trying to get work with something like flash, saying you've got a bunch of awards is much more powerful than 'lots of people watch my movies' so I'm pretty peeved, since that's what I'm legitimising all my 'wasted time animating when i could be doing webdesign' with - getting a background of awards. I'm really upset, and I don't think I want to let it rest - unfortunately due to it being 1am or something NG admin time I just have to wait I suppose. I've PM'ed Tom. Thanks for your words guys, it'll help me through the evening, heh :(

Not to be cranky or anything, but how is this possible? StarCraft: The Hunt 2/2 gets weekly 2nd without a daily eventhough it currently has a higher score than daily feature, and I submitted the thing yesterday so it should be in there even if it was too late for yesterdays awards. part one should be on there too, with 4.20/5! I was hoping for a lot more coverage for this 2 month project, and I know which awards they should've got, so yes - I do feel robbed!

That's happened to me too - if you submit it too late it doesn't go into the awards for that day, because you might've noticed how the votes tend to drop once they're out of judgement and things - you get more of a 'true score' if you leave it for a while. It'll be in the awards tomorrow if it kicked enough bottom - good luck!

Hi guys - sorry if someone has already mentioned this, I don't have enough time to lurk right now but I want some feedback on this!

I was just looking at my website statistics and I found a link from this website, 'flashring.com' - following up on that I found that they'd lifted my movie, and a whole bunch of other peoples movies, from NG and just stuck them over there. I don't know about everyone else but I wasn't even asked. I feel violated, heh. I know it's immoral, but is it illegal?

I hate to be a whingey baby and all, but like, why didn't my movie win anything? Unless 'Fight James' and 'Theatrum Mundi's scores absolutely plummetted after they won, I don't understand. Currently my movie is on like 3.93 and Fight James (5th) on 3.77, with less total votes than my movie as well. Don't get me wrong guys I'm not saying your movies aren't worthy, just I honestly don't understand why mine isn't on there, I don't want my movie to drift off the bottom of the portal in an hour or two and never be watched again, that's all. I'm sure you can sympathise with that.

Forum: Flash

Hey people, I'm just wondering how to do a fog / mist effect in Flash MX. I've seen the kind of thing put to great use around the place, and I've tried to replicate it with lots of low alpha radial gradient circles and other efforts, and all have turned out looking like crap. I'm thinking perhaps it's some kind of GIF background or something, does anyone have any idea? I have searched the forum and nothing came up relating to this special effect. Likewise I have checked http://www.kirupa.com/ and found nothing related there too! Thanks a lot for your input.

I should've known better than to submit on Clock Day! But nevermind, heaps of the movies were excellent. Some kind of advertising on NG as to the advent of clockday, or a (temporary or permanent) clockday 2004 section would be pretty good.

Posted: 08/15/04 07:05 PM

Pube Muppit doesn't really need a section, those who love him can search the portal and find him very easily, as I have done! Some of them are really lame duplicates of others done by lameasses, but others have a little something new to offer (or nothing new to offer in a different way, which is just as good). I don't think he should be destroyed just because the hardcore people on the BBS don't think he's particularly amusing - the NG voters constantly decide he's worth hanging onto, and that should be respected.

Just because a person has not frequented Newgrounds for 2 years and got 1000 reviews on thier profile does not make thier opinion any less valid than your own. Sure there are a lot of stupid kids out there but you shouldn't categorise everyone into 'n00b' and 'guy with some brass knuckles on his little picture thing'.
I know everyone stereotypes without really meaning too, but this thread is so full of 'n00b' that I thought I might throw in a point going the other way.

But I agree voting high and writing a negative review is quite stupid - then again, there are a lot of stupid people around, and you've got to just deal with it.

I like the Pico Animation, though I think smoother loading and less stress on the servers is more important really, so I'd go with the text version. I also write this because there seems to be some things not quite right in this new setup (however temporary it is). When I am viewing / reviewing a movie, sometimes I like to write a decent review. Twice now I have written a review with my details *apparently* logging me in automatically down the bottom of the review box. When I go submit, I have been time logged out or something and I cannot salvage my review, save going back, copying it and relogging on, reopening the windows and things.
I'm not sure if this is due to the new setup or maybe my stupid cookies that are playing up, but maybe a longer time period before logging off would be helpful :)

This wouldn't be so bad if deleted wasn't just using an insult generator program. I had the program he is using a few years ago, it comes up with some good ones every now and then :) autoinsult or something like that.

Anyway yes you're pathetic deleted, I see through your lame attempt to be cool with someone else's insults.
