Going to have to go with:

Slick animation, rockin' music, old-school parody fun...and heck, I just always liked Scorpion.

(Close second place was "Tellertabbies". Nothing like SHEER CHAOS to get you laughing your ass off!)

For Hidden Games, I'm going to have to go with...

Not only was the idea hilarious, the execution was killer! I loved how the author divided up the "instruments". The animation was simple, but slick!

Why is there never anything that says when the monthly voting ends? I see the monthly voting page every day, and I figure I can let it go for another day, but then suddenly I see "Error, it's not monthly voting time". >:(

Guys, you know I love you (in a stouthearted manly sort of way), but...I just wasn't all that impressed with Castle Crashers. I mean, I downloaded the demo and played it, and it was the same gameplay as Final Fight, TMNT, dozens of other games. Sure, it was reasonably well polished, and the animation was top-notch, but isn't there more to game design than cool animation?

Kom, Susser Tod. Sounds happy, but listen to the lyrics. (And of course the title means "Come, Sweet Death"...)

Another great one is DEVO's "Beautiful World". The weird thing is that this was even used for a Target commercial, but if you listen to the lyrics it's...pretty amazing.

It's a beautiful world we live in,
A sweet romantic place,
Beautiful people everywhere,
The way they show they care
Makes me want to say,

It's a beautiful world, it's a beautiful world, it's a beautiful world
For you...for you...for you...

IT'S NOT FOR ME

I live on Long Island, in New York. I could take the monkey to NYC, I go there every month or so at least. Or, there's a sign right by my house that says "This was the historical border of the New Netherland territory". It might only be interesting to history buffs, but it is unique. ;)

Why is MySpace bad? I'm not saying it's good or bad, I'm just saying, let's step back and think about this for a moment. Why do you think it's bad?

Is it because of the lame people who use it? Well, it's hard to keep lamers out of anywhere, really. I'm sure Newgrounds has had to deal with its share, and that's not going to change anytime soon, eh?

Is it because of the horrible HTML pages that people put up? Well, now you've got the opportunity to make a GOOD version!

Is it because MySpace is successful and so many people use it? Well, I can't help you there. :P

So, I tried to submit a Flash the other day and Newgrounds told me it was too wide; more than 800 pixels. This was true, it WAS more than 800 pixels...However, I didn't have any warning that there was a limit. I can't find anything about it in the FAQ either. What are the "official" limits? Is there a height limit too?

Oh, boy. I foresee a front page filled with all sorts of.........wondrous things.

Here's the entire oeuvre of an artist named "Entrails the Clown" (oh boy, did you ever think you'd see the word 'oeuvre' in a Newgrounds post?):
Man in Toothpaste - Nicely random
Pico's "What the fuck?" - Pretty sick, but maybe you'll like it, I dunno :P

Blitzed - mouth of love - Part of some series which seems like it was pretty well done.

Adventures of..Mouth-Man! - Short and sweet

April Fools - Enough said

Hey, I'm having a little trouble with the tutorial template from the second post in this thread...Flash tells me it can't open the file because it "contains screen". Apparently screens are a feature of Flash MX 2004 Professional. And I only have the regular Flash MX 2004...

Okay, uh...I still want to know what the "Binary" tutorial entails. Like I said, I know a lot about binary, I'm just a little unsure about why someone would want to have a tutorial on it in a bunch of Flash tutorials. The basics of binary as a number system? Converting between it and decimal? Bitwise operators? Storing flags in variables? Just tell me what to tutor and I'll tutor a tutorial about it! ;)

Hey, I'd like to do Advanced/Binary and Web Design/PHP. The thing is, I'd need to know what you want in those tutorials. I know a lot about Binary and PHP, so I'm sure I can do it, I just need to know exactly what should be in there. :P For PHP you probably want high score submission or something, right? Anything else?

Topic: Possibly stolen Flash?

Posted: 07/02/07 03:31 PM

Forum: Where is / How to?

Okay, I just played a game here on Newgrounds that was apparently posted today. However, I KNOW I've played it before, I just can't remember the name of the other game. I've searched through stuff, but no luck.

The game is sort of a side-scroller. You go through various screens, hopping on platforms to get to higher exits. The arrow keys move while the mouse lets you aim and shoot in any direction. There's a sort of repetitive music. Occasionally you go through a screen where rocks continually fall from the screen and you have to avoid them. The graphics looked like 8-bit pixels.

The "new" game is here.

So, can anyone remember the old game? And if I'm correct and this is 'stolen', what do I do?

Hang in there, Tom!

The basic theory of Newgrounds (and it's certainly not unique to Newgrounds) is that you try out billions of possibilities and SOME of them come out awesome. Look at the front page. Aren't you proud of all the awesome stuff people have done and submitted to your website? Fun games, cool cartoons...the Weird Al collection, for crying out loud! You've got so much awesome concentrated here. Think about the art contests, how people will jump at the chance to submit wacky pictures simply because you said so! Think of the audio portal, where people submit hours of music! Think of how many awesome Flash artists there are submitting stuff--how EVERY DAY you say "We also have submissions from THESE popular Flash artists (insert two dozen people who rock)".

Sure, there's drama, there's guilt over missed opportunities...But it doesn't matter. You gotta leave that behind like it was BLAMMED.

I hope I didn't sound angry, I'm not trying to sound angry, I'm trying to sound encouraging. :) There's nowhere to go but up!

Topic: The random code...

Posted: 05/25/07 04:13 PM

Forum: Flash

Well, first of all, I'm pretty sure Math.random() chooses a value between 0 and 1. At least it does in Flash MX 2004...What people usually use is code something like this:

Math.round(Math.random()*(max-min))+min;

Where "min" and "max" are the minimum and maximum numbers you want to get. So if you wanted a number from 1 to 10, min would be 1 and max would be 10.
