Thanks a lot, man. I gave it another shot and I ended up with this. It's not perfect by any means, especially the face (It's very undefined looking) but I'd say it works for a start.
Okay, after reading all of your posts, and looking through a ton of those CTRL+Paint videos the above posted, I started working on this. I'm getting a little stuck on where to go from here, hopefully I can get some constructive criticism from you guys on what I'm doing right, and what I'm doing wrong/can improve on.
I'm trying to understand painting in Photoshop. I have CS6. It just goes over my head though. There's something about it that it all just feels so overwhelming and I can't understand what I'm really supposed to do. The brushes confuse me as well. I never know what most of them do, let alone when to use what settings/brush.
Here's a picture I filled with solid color, and tried to color in. I'll post links instead because there are more than one. (Also, please don't just say to use greyscale. I'll do that, it's just not that helpful to hear repeatedly)
Flat colors: http://imageshack.us/a/img843/2150/ol0d.png
Then I tried to start coloring it in, and I ended up with this...

And let's be honest, it's pretty terrible.
I know practice makes perfect, but when I don't know what to practice it's very hard. Like I said, I just feel very overwhelmed by everything and I'm really hoping some of you can shed some light on this for me. Thanks in advance, you guys are always very helpful.
Thanks for the help, guys. It's not hanging beautifully on my wall.
I just got my canvas picture I ordered, and I'd love to hang it up. The problem though, is that there is nothing on the back of it to hang it up by. The only thing they sent with it, are these two... things.
Any idea what I'm supposed to do here? This is a puzzle I just can't solve.

If someone steals that image up there, and posts it somewhere claiming it's their own. No one will think twice. If you sign your work, and it's damn deserving of a signature, then someone can't as easily just claim it's their own work.

Just throwing this out there, but it hasn't been the first time that art has been stolen from the internet and used for selling because of super high res quality
This, dude. I'd think about maybe adding a signature somewhere? That might be a good thing to think about.
Aw dang, I would have said the Bruce Timm xD It's good though. Little weird on the proportions though.

Well, I'm a huge fan of Harley Quinn. Let's see what you can do with her in sharpie form :D
These are amazing, dude. More. Post more.
Wow, I just went through this entire thread and... holy shit dude. You've improved so much it's insane! May I ask what you think some of the most important/helpful pieces of advice people on here gave you to improve was? I'm extremely impressed with the level of improvement.

what do you guys think?
I'd say it's worth it. If you start the thread over again, I'll even join in this time.
(Sorry I can't help with yours, I never draw guns)
I have an insanely hard time drawing legs and feet.

There are a few tricks you can use to help with backgrounds. One is to make the background a little colder or warmer in tone then the foreground to make it stand out. You can also do a lighting effect filter to give the background the same light direction as the character to tie it better. My personal favorite thing to do is overlay a texture.
Wow textures made all the difference. I even used a few to make him look more metallic. Uploading to my art section now, thanks for all the help!
I just finished a skin idea for a League of Legends character, and while I like the finished result of the character, the background is really hurting the picture as a whole. I never do background stuff, any help on how I can fix it?
I just realized you're the guy that drew one of my favorite pieces on here. I must have missed it in the first post, but I've had First Date in my favorites since shortly after I made an account. That's definitely one of my favorites I've seen on here.
I really love how well you use the softer colors, it really makes a lot of your work stand out to me over other artists. You also draw hands and feet exceptionally well, at least to me.

Alright, thanks. I'll give this a try and let you guys know how it goes. I appreciate the help from all of you.

painting is more complex than drawing line art for stuff, you can certainly forgo the learning to use line art phase but you cant forgo the learning to draw phase and still be successful.
get your medium of choice out and start drawing some human figures to figure out how they work. After you get good at doing that you can try something this complex....
I draw people, like a lot. That's all I draw pretty much lol. When I'm doing linework for people I can do it no problem, it's this kind of thing that I can't grasp the concept of.
Okay, so I tried to do this kind of stuff myself. And it's clearly gone wrong. I almost can't bring myself to show this, but I need help. I got lost and kind of overwhelmed in how new this kind of thing was to me. I misjudged it. If you can, try to help me out :/ I'll be most appreciative.
(Also, this is going to eventually be something that's been in my head for years. It's my alternative TDK Harley Quinn)

Are you sure about that? How can you get lines that long and THAT straight with the freehand of a lasso tool? I know people are good, but still.

I asked my friend, she said she'd like a picture of Princess Daisy (from Mario) if you're up to it.
Thanks so much, guys! These links are very helpful.
With that Leona Art Spotlight, at the beginning where he's filling in solid color his his sketch, do you know how he's doing that? It's selecting the lines perfectly, even though the sketch is rough. Seems too good for the magic wand tool.

Oh my god dude, thank you so much. That's amazing. I really appreciate it. Can I ask how you went about drawing this? Like just the general process that went into drawing it?
I love it, though. Thank you.
I'm not sure I know how to word this very well, so I'm just going to try and hope you guys understand.
All of my pictures I do digitally, I do the linework, then I color. But pictures like these:
http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/113/9/5/caitlyn___wallpaper_by_tsuaii-d4xb86a.jpg
These don't have lines, but they look amazing. How do people do this kind of stuff? Does anyone have any advice of their own, or links to tutorials for this? I'd really appreciate it.
I use Paint Tool Sai and Photoshop if it helps.
Thanks in advance.
