At the recent Adobe MAX conference, the creator of OpenFL came on stage and demonstrated a new feature in the Flash IDE -- a custom OpenFL project file that lets you use the traditional Flash workflow (make art stuff in Flash), but allows you to use the open-source technology Haxe/OpenFL that lets you compile your game not only to Flash, but also to HTML5 and C++ (desktop+mobile).

This is kind of a big deal! For those who are worried about the future of Flash, this basically signals that Haxe/OpenFL is taking the place of the now-cancelled "ActionScript 4", but with the ability to get your games into HTML5 and Native platforms!
Cool! Glad to see people are interested!
For those who have responded -- please post the name of the developer you represent and/or any games you have in development so I can put them on the list. Big or small, the more the merrier.
As for you Tom -- are you interested on your own behalf, on Newgrounds', on the Behemoths', all of the above? :D
Hey everyone! Lars Doucet here, I worked on Defender's Quest.
A while back I posted this: Haxe/OpenFL 101 for flash refugees.
Now I have some news, I've been talking with various "powers that be" and we've got some strong leads on building out official support for Haxe/OpenFL on the major next-gen consoles (in fact we've already started work on at least one console). The upshot to this is it would let Flash developers get their stuff on consoles at native speed with a lot less work than porting to say, Unity. You would have to port your game to Haxe (a very similar language to Actionscript), but you could keep using the Flash API and most of your workflow (including flash vector art).
Of course, we have to finish building this console tech layer first :)
This is where you come in. The "powers that be" are very interested in this project, but before they throw their weight behind it they need a list of devs and games that would benefit from it. So if you are a *serious* developer, with at least one decent game under your belt, and you'd be honestly interested in a console release, please give me your details and a list of your games so I can include it in the big list. Note that this is not an up-front commitment to anything, you won't be legally obliged, etc, it's just a statement of interest.
You did Concerned Joe? That game looks amazing!
Hey guys, Lars Doucet here, lead developer at Level Up Labs (we made Defender’s Quest).
So, you might have heard a lot of scary reports about the future of flash — Flash game summit is dead, Mochimedia is dead, FGL licenses and sponsorships aren’t what they used to be, everyone’s talking about HTML5 and Unity, and Adobe has been doing a pretty crappy job of inspiring confidence, what with cancelling Actionscript 4, dropping AIR on Linux, and handing the Flex standard over to Apache. A lot of us devs are really worried that our beloved Flash might not be around for us much longer, but we’re not sure where to jump to, or when.
Some of you might have heard of Haxe, or OpenFL, and wondered whether it’s really as awesome as people say. And some of you who have looked into it have probably been immediately confused — “What’s HAXE, what’s OPENFL, what’s NME, what’s NEKO, what’s LIME???” etc.
So, I’ve written a little primer for people new to the tech stack that explains:
1) What Haxe/OpenFL is, piece by piece
2) Why we are developing Defender’s Quest 2 in Haxe/OpenFL
3) How you can use it to JUST KEEP MAKING FLASH GAMES
4) How you can use it to ALSO make natively-compiled games for mobile, desktop, and more.
Flash is Dead, Long Live OpenFL!
Sorry for the article’s slightly inflammatory headline :P I think Flash still has some life in it, but Adobe makes me too nervous to bet the farm on it alone anymore.
Bonus points? OpenFL just announced an HTML5 target that is swiftly maturing. Exciting times.
Thoughts?
