4.07 / 5.00 13,902 ViewsThis is probably really bad, but this week I wasn't able to draw anything...I just got out of a 2 year relationship and I feel really bad...so I did this on purely emotion and not giving a shit whether or not it looks good. This is how I feel today.
I really enjoy the backgrounds. Unfortunately I have bad eye sight so I couldn't read the dialogue.
I guess I'll have to grow a penis...I've got the honest thing down though so I'm half way there.

First time I've seen this guy post in someone elses thread.
Too bad I'm not new like you, OP. I'm jelly.
I thought this was a shipping thread. I thought art was going to come of this. I'm disappoint.

Some(MORE) Lighting. Forgot to add more.
It is good! Although there is always some room for improvement.
I'm not that much of a critiquer(more of a positive enforcer) but the main thing that sticks out is that the image is a bit flat. Maybe trying darker shadowing and some lighting to make it pop out more. Other than that though, the style is quite unique and I enjoy unique things! Keep up the great work.

Extra tips:
SHADING SHADING SHADING
- Always start with defining where your light source is. There can be multiple light sources, definitely in real life it is most common to have multiple light sources but for practicing it might be easier to start with just one.
And look at real life objects to see how light reacts with them (angles, sharp/softer shadows, ... etc. )
- Avoid using tools like 'bevel' and 'drop shadow' apart from text decoration they never look good.
Facial expressions
Thanks for you input, and the link. I'm not sure what bevel and drop shadow is. I use Paint Tool Sai, is there an equivalent in that? I usually shade by using the paint brush or pen tool depending on how fine the shadows are. I've been using the water paint brush tool as well.
The other stuff though, excellent advice. I appreciate it.

So im going to say this is a really great drawing even tho it isn't just cuz ur a gerl and i hath penor.
Okay..trololol
Pretty much coming out from underneath the bed here. I need a lot of help with my art, especially now that I'm trying to use less references in order to develop a certain style. I've been drawing on and off, but I'm trying to start becoming serious about it so that I can improve. I have had a long track of improvement during the sporadic times that I start drawing, so I imagine if I am more consistent I can continue onto get better.
I will also include a list of things I really need to work on so I can focus on those weaknesses. I will add more if I get some critiques as well.
So here we go.
I need to work on:
SHADING SHADING SHADING
Facial expressions
Poses
Hands
Did I mention shading?
This is the most recent drawing I've done, and I'm too lazy to post the other two that I did right before it.
My personal Critique:
I like this picture but I don't like it. I tried a few different things with the hair and the general lighting of the picture. I feel like it could have been better. And then I'm not sure if it's me, but either her body is too short or her arms are too long. There are a few other things that I can't place my fingers on either. Though for positive, I'm glad that I've tried something new with the face. I think that despite not ever having done bruises or injuries before it came out pretty good. Of course there is always room for improvement.
I stopped using references about a month ago with my sketches and noticed that the quality of my images got a little worse. I'd say that referencing has been a waste of my time but it might be different for you. If you are learning as you are going, and the referencing is actually a tool for you to get to know anatomy better, I'd say your fine. But if you ever feel like you can't do anything without a reference, like how I was feeling the past year, I'd say you should back away from it.
The only thing I use as a reference now is whatever or whoever is around me instead of looking at drawings for reference.

I have tryed a lot with them and sometimes they come out nicely but I stil dont feel to comfy about em. I guess the only solution thats helped for me is lots of practice and exercising with perspective (maybe try basic shapes and start building from there). But as I see it theres always hope as long as youre willing to put in the effort
Is there hope for me? And I appreciate links to guides and whatnot.
Yeah, I practice sometimes. But I feel like I'm practicing wrong. I don't know when I'm doing thing right or when I'm doing them wrong, and with no sense of perspective I'm kind of bad at seeing the errors unless someone explains them to me. :(
Is it unusual for an artist to have issues drawing backgrounds? I do think it's important for me to learn how to draw something besides people, because I want to pursue animation and arts, but I have absolutely no skill when it comes to backgrounds and my sense of perspective is awful.

You misunderstood me.
Putting yourself out there is all and good, but its like going to an interview without a resume. Or trying to join a club without proper credentials.
Right now you are no different than all the other new users that have nothing to show but their own eagerness to get involved in Newgrounds.
What sets you apart from everyone else is your talent. That is what stops people.
And you are never going to get that quality of art in any Flash Production.

You would probably get more interested if you were somewhat established in the community. Nobody will be interested in a new person that doesn't have any sort of background or portfolio. Try working on that first.

Bills and all that jazz.
How do you guys come up with the money to buy the adobe flash thingy? I'm not really that poor, but seven hundred dollars might be a little bit too much for me to accept...
I'm hoping there's a cheaper price, but I can't afford to pay more than sixty dollars at this time.
And from what I've seen on ebay....I was no where near the price of even used software.
This isn't about how much the price is, but rather how you guys come up with the money. xD
