I've never heard anything good come out of any government.
Or perhaps that may be because I don't keep up to date with politics.

No time lapse because I thought I was just fucking around with colours.

About that hiatus...

The colors are very strong in all of your paintings and almost take hold of your painting, while the subject itself is second to be noticed.
I guess this means your art leans toward abstract. I like it.
Thanks.
On a unrelated note, I'm stopping digital shit for a month or two. Reason being I am really unsatisfied with my skill level right now. Like, I really really hate my works and I'm going to get a shit load of pencils and try to use every inch of that a3 art book which I never used and hope that I might, you know, not suck major dick at the end of it.

Sweet as mate. I'm cool with you posting this anywhere and everywhere because I was about just about to do the same before I posted this here> I think I went overkill with the whole 'redoing' aspect.

For some reason I missed this post the last 10 times I scanned this page. I think it only fitting if I did Contemplation in return.

I just don't draw for the day because the outcome is usually bad when I try to force it.

I'd have to semi-argue with the point you made about it taking less skill - because it was specifically designed to minimise effort, namely this is why most people do it and succeed to some extent. You can get away with so much in anime that it just becomes one huge shortcut. I'm not saying that there aren't good anime works but there are more details to put into making something look realistic than there are to making it look anime-esque.
Hold up - you set out to clarify between critiquing and giving a personal opinion but I can only infer that by dragging out random examples from the Art Portal written by people that you have no idea whether they are trying to critique the work or not that you expect every review to be a critique.
The problem with that is is that it's a "Review" system and is in no way obliged to contain any from of critique, it's probably more of a bonus if you get one containing such information.
The Art Portal is more of a gallery where the general 'success' of a work is comprised of the praise it gets from the audience who give their personal opinions because they are justified to do so because they are the audience. If critiques are wanted, I'd make a wild guess and say the forums are a more logical place to look.

I'm about to actually. I don't know dick about hardware though so I got my friend to put together a list of parts for me to buy. He says it should be easy enough to put it together if I watch a Youtube tut or two. I was gonna salvage from this computer but turns out it's old as fuck so really I'm just trying to optimise my 'bang for buck'. But really, I can't imagine it being difficult to do because it's just slotting things into places and fastening things in.

Generally when I see something with 2 views and a 5, I come to the conclusion that the submitter voted 5 on their own work.
Which I think is illogical to say the least.
I don't think there's a problem with the whole situation because fact of the matter is, the majority of this websites visitors consists of the occasional under 14 passerby, and if you submit your work to the portal then you should be fully aware of it. Obviously if you put works in front of an audience, the demographic will be the basis of what gets more praise than the others. It'd be like putting anime fan art in MoMA and expecting it to go anywhere.
Try learning general art skills - ones that apply to traditional mediums generally work in digital. You can't expect to be good at digital straight away.

Redo of "Mallard". (which is on my page somewhere)
I think any form of art being posted on the internet comes with the rule about 'it's only good if it's awesome'. Right now, as previously mentioned, it is pretty basic. I mean, even if you brought something with a really powerful cultural or conceptual element, the internet doesn't really respond to it well.
I looked at your other stuff and in my honest opinion, I'd advise putting more substance into your works - rather than making something 'interesting' to look at, try making something that is simply and visually intense if you continue to aim at an internet audience.
I think while you got your fabric folds and anatomy pretty down pat, your proportions are occasionally a little iffy. The latest image for example, the leg closest to us I'd imagine should be slightly larger than the other leg which is heading further away.
Also, I'm not sure if it's related to the above point, but the stance doesn't feel like it could sustain the action.
At 11/30/10 07:09 PM, Knocturne wrote: A. What would you classify your style of art?

Caravaggio. Other than that, I don't like 'looking up to people' as douchebaggy as that may sound. I'd justify this with something along the lines of 'you can't be number one if there's someone in front of you' or some nonsensical bullshit like that.
C. How long have you been doing art?
Drawing for as long as I could. Legitimate 'art' probably 2-3 years.
D. Has your style changed completely since then? If yes, what was it before?
Yes. Before I was horrible. Now I'm semi-horrible.
Just a completely unnecessary heads up, I'm going to attempt to post a heap more because I've been really... lacking in contributing anywhere other than my own art thread. So yeah, sup.
I'd be up for this. All my images are random as hell though, so if anyone's daring enough, hit me up.

My internet is going at 4kb/s. I wouldn't want to spark a site wide investigation because simply put, my internet is absolutely horrendous.
Also, thanks for the comments guys - even if you say I suck enormous dicks, it's all good.
While we're here, I'm taking free commission if you're willing to tip me whatever you feel like, so should anyone actually see this, how very very rare that may be, if you happen to have a dollar in your Paypal and you also want me to draw you something, then through the magic of economics 101, we can start ensue some sort of business.
