You know there's this story that goes like:
There are two pottery classes and the instructor tells them that one will receive marks based on the quantity of pots they make while the other based on the quality of a single pot.
By the end of it, the class that makes that is assigned the quantity task beats the other class because rather than spending the entire time on the single pot, trying to fix its every perfection, they were constantly working on new pots, learning from the mistakes they made on the old ones.

I hadn't read the "post page 1" detail and had already made this nifty montage which literally took me 20 minutes because photoshop is a piece of shit.

I think everyone is forgetting that whether something is an illustration or not, it's not a matter of 1's and 0's. OP, your image is an illustration, but lets be honest, it's pretty poor in explaining the idea behind it, therefore it's a poor illustration.
The reason why a mod said it wasn't an illustration was in terms of you submitting under that type into the Art portal because you're not using original content.

I actually finished a comic 3 days ago specifically dealing with the idea of the oncoming night, but bleurgh.

Whether it's in your insignificant interest to be put onto the stage, it's not ours to view it. You are completely free to upload your works onto your userpage which you can whore 'til your hearts content, but to be scouted into the Art portal means you actually have to have some sort of likable skill.

Excuse me, what? There is no need to sugar coat anything because fact of the matter is, if the artist cannot disconnect themself from their work as to actually take offence from what is being said about the seperate entity which they produce, all that's going to happen is they are going to get angry and upset.
Neither of those emotions should be concern of the person who critiqued the work. It is entirely up to the artist whether they perceive the comments and react to them accordingly; If I said someones work was shit, it's their fault if they get all pissy about it - ideally, should an artist put their work out there, they should be able to keep an open mind to what you perceive to be harsh comments, maybe even laugh it off.
