Response to: What's a good hourly rate/price? Posted April 11th, 2012 in Art

How many hours do you think it would take you to do though?

I would say that $20/hour is way too low considering that being an artist isn't a physical labour job and actually requires years upon years of experience to be able to do properly, additionally if you're doing part of this traditional, the hourly rate should compensate for the materials included.

If I had to give a number, I would probably say bare minimum $45 an hour, leaning towards a higher number - especially if you don't know them personally.

Given that, _if I know my shit correctly_ , the average professional visual artist goes for $70/hour on average.

But if you work really slow and the estimated time multiplied with the hourly rate becomes ludicrous, then you'd probably want to lower the rates accordingly to equal out the time required to finish.

This. If you're paying for a job than you probably were unable to get into a conventional means of learning because of your lack of skill. So those people wouldn't be contributing to any of the companies products so what would the point be, it just turns back into paying for work experience.
Unless they decide to be dicks and give him the 'go get this for this person' jobs rather than what they paid for.

Yes, you get a school education in a school, well said. But you would also get a working 'education' out of a work environment. There are people on this planet who don't do well in school purely because the set up of the generalised education system isn't their style of learning.
If the option was at least offered for people to go for an alternative route to achieve the same goal, namely experience, then I don't see the problem.

I think it's more the equivalent of saying "I'm a chump who'll pay my way into slave labour. Working for nothing is a step up from my last job. Don't pay me anything."

I would say the same thing to people who pay for an education. At least with this one [assuming they're a legitimate thing] you're getting actual work experience.

Paying to work for free, found via CGTalk.

By this logic you'd say that movie critics make for good movie directors no?
The purpose of that thread was to find flaws in an image that wasn't created by anyone in particular - finding flaws in a work that isn't your own has bare minimum effects on your own skill.

Bringing in the 'good intentions' card is stupid also.

It's all part of art anyways, you don't have a forum for any other style/subgenre of art. Just look around for it, and if it's yours that you're interested in sharing, then make an art thread and put all your work in it! :)

Besides, the concept of how much crap would flood it is unfathomable.
Thats true, but I Comics/Manga tends to be different than just art, since it also tends to have a continuous storyline. If its just submitted into the art section, then it would be harder to keep track of new additions to the comic and manga. I just believe that this should have a separate area since story-telling is the main element of a comic and/or manga.

Are you talking about the other tabs like 'illustration' and 'fine art' because I really don't think anyone uses those.
If you want to follow anyone in particular, favourite them and they'll appear in your activity feed. (Otherwise click the star icon in your user bar at the top of the page)

Honestly, I don't think there's even enough extensively long comics to warrant a specifically 'comics' section. Even then, they should be putting it up on other sites that are more catering towards that sort of thing.

And now because I have a website I can upload them all into a zip file for all to question.

Can't you use whatever you're using to save your image files to resize them to the 'include image' requirements?
Also, simply pasting the url of the image will create a fancy looking link:
