No, "artists" are generally in it for the art and not for the money. The fact that these people are picketing for more money makes them not artists in my mind. Plus, have you watched any TV recently? You could not possibly call these people "artists."

I beg to differ. Sure, some tv writing stinks, I'll give you that... but comedy writing takes talent. Not everyone can deliver wit -day after day- in the case of late night shows or political satire shows. But a good many of the writers who are there ARE there because they can crank out their work to the high demands of a Hollywood timeframe. Also, there are some rare gems, like Heroes, out there.

I'm sure some would say the same if there was a creative team strike at Marvel or D.C. I think the word 'strike' has become equated to 'greed' and in this case, it's just not so. The actors, I believe, DO get their royalties from internet sales, and they make gobs more money than the writers do. Do you really think that is fair?

After taking a creative writing course, I have a greater appreciation for writers. Writers do not become writers to make gobs of money. If that was their goal, they'd be sports athletes. :P

Think about it. For the parent who wants their child to succeed in a career, and make enough money to take care of them in their old age, hearing that the child wants to be, oh, an artist or a writer (throw in acting, too; it has about as much of a gulf between the majority at a low income and the few at the top), it worries the parents. Doctors, lawyers, athletes... oh, wait, add programmers in, too, now-- that's what most parents who are hopeful for specific careers for their children are looking for!

If that doesn't make you stop and think, please read this (and keep in mind the COL in California, because it does factor in...):

While some might spout that Hollywood writers complaining about pay is a high-class problem, the strike's impact extends far beyond the red carpet. For starters, most screenwriters are middle-class; they are not the A-List, superstar lot of content creators like Rhimes; Dick Wolf, of the Law & Order franchise; David E. Kelly, creator of Boston Legal, The Practice; or J.J. Abrams, creator of Lost. Minority writers, in particular, have a tough time getting employment at all and are underrepresented in the best of times. And when they do get work, they are paid less than white writers. According to a 2007 WGA study conducted by UCLA professor of sociology, Darnell Hunt, the average income for minority screenwriters in 2005 was $66,666 compared to $77,577 for whites. Further, it is not uncommon for writers to go years without working for long periods of time. They often live on the residuals from past work, teaching jobs, temping, mom and dad-you name it. This makes their fight for their fair piece of the residual pie that much more urgent and convincing.

It would be interesting to see if this strike has a creative side effect to it. A writer not writing is like an artist not painting/sculpting/etc. Eventually, they will succumb to their muse-- perhaps returning to more traditional forms of literature. Ought to be interesting.

You know, considering how much more actors and actresses are paid, would it really hurt much to give the writers their royalties for internet sales? Seriously. It's like coaches striking the sports teams for merchandise sales. Go ahead and give them their share. Sheesh.

As for a collab. ._.; Well, for the more experienced folk, maybe. I'm a snail with Flash, right now, so by the time I got anything done, the strike'd be over.

Topic: Vegetarians

Posted: 10/06/07 09:19 PM

Forum: General

It's really quite interesting. I had a couple of friends who were married. The husband was a meat and potatoes kind of guy and his wife was a vegetarian (dairy ok, no-egg, no-fish). They each would cook their own food. I made dinner for them, once, on their anniversary: a roast and fixings for him and a vegetarian lasagna for her.

And you know, if they can not only get along but love each other in their marriage, despite their different eating habits, you'd think more people could who don't even know one another.

Myself, I gave up eating mammals for about 10 years. Nothing religious, philosophical, or political about it. Beef and pork just stopped tasting good to me. So I just ate fish and chicken, so far as meat was concerned. But then, about ten years passed, I had a steak and enjoyed it. So I have red meat every so often. Cause it's tasty again.

I guess the point I'm getting at is that we're all going to have our reasons for eating or not eating whatever food we want. Just don't hate on each other and eat yer peas, for the love of pete! (Unless you're against peas. ;) )

But yeah, as some have stated before, vegetarianism has been around for a long while. I'm pretty sure it predates Buddhism, which itself started around 500 B.C. or so (or earlier... can't remember.)

The thing I would add is, just know where your food comes from (beyond the store), and be appreciative of how it gets to your plate, whether it comes from a plant or an animal. *shrug*

Instead of just feeding these people, we should be educating them and help them cultivate their land so they're self-sufficient. Just feeding them and sending them to church (which is an ethical issue in itself) isn't enough.

...And if this is a serious thread, shouldn't it go to Politics? ^^;

Walk forward to the screen and climb out, then slap the animator.

And then I'd go find some place that makes ice cream.

Because obviously, there's no ice cream in that room.

Aeris from FF7
That guy Jude Law played in Cold Mountain. Never want to see that movie again. :P

Uninstall Firefox, then reinstall it using a fresh user, if the history won't go. The other thing to do is wipe your cache. This too should be found in Tools > Options > Privacy.

*sighs* u.u Not that I'm saying you should or should not watch porn at your age (is it even legal for you to, in the UK?), but can you not discuss sexual topics with your Mom? Or is it a taboo subject?

Posted: 10/06/07 02:33 PM

I think it was best put this way:

So! When did you decide to be straight?

Most people will reply, "I've always been straight. It's how I am." And you know, gay people will more than likely say the same thing when you ask them when they chose to be gay.

My answer is the same, though, whether it's sexual preference, religious belief, or jock or nerd. Just be yourself. (Of course, harming other people like stealing and murdering is out of that statement. LOL @.@)

Yes, please include suggestions on mic types, and editing styles. I helped Skaijo out with VAing one of her characters and I was really stoked for when she was going to release Pick Up 2, but she got lesser votes due to the sound quality in the VAing and layering the voices. I personally haven't tackled this yet, with my own flashes, so perhaps a VA-section or even a layering section would help out.

Thank you for making this, by the way.

You should probably work on the readability of your font vs. the background of the table for all the info. Choose a sans serif font, likely bold. Only use glow if it will help, not hurt, the design. A crisp, clean design is much more preferable over something a bit noisy.

Props on the scripting, though, I'll give you that. I'm still quite clueless to that area right now. :)

Topic: I hate the pink layout

Posted: 10/06/07 01:27 PM

It works pretty well, except for some of the orange areas (like the message area) that have stayed the same. Pink and orange definetely don't mix well. @.@ Other than that garish aspect, then I'm for it. My grandmother died of leukemia caused by her breast cancer, and I'm a woman, so yeah... I'm a little biased.

So pink is girly. There are girls here, you know. All five or six of us. :P

Besides, just think of pink being the color of blood in snow and you'll feel fine about it being all over NG. It's all blood-soaked snow. See? :)

Oh, and the gay comments? Please. Let gay people be gay and straight people be straight.

Oh. And if you like Pink, the singer, then lay off for that reason alone. She proved pink can be cool. :)

I may just have to turn fab for the month. 9.9

Topic: How can i get her to understand?!..

Posted: 09/29/07 12:19 AM

Forum: General

Don't fret over her. o.o Be a friend and all, and it's okay to have feelings for her, but don't let that ruin your life. It's not worth it, you know? She understands to the extent she can. Trust me, I know how you feel. Boy, I have been down that road, and I'm on the other team! LOL So it happens both ways, let me tell you. If you give her some space, and hang out with other girls (not saying you have to date them, but that is okay too), then she might notice what she's missing, since you aren't there every minute of her day.

And then take it from there. Try to watch for signals from her. If she starts up with wanting to hang out, do so (but not every time or not just that minute, give her something to look forward to). If she doesn't, then it's prettymuch not going to happen unless there's an unknown factor that's stopping her in her life. (And if it's that, there's not much you can do about it. Ball is in her court now.)

Hope that helps!

Wow, maybe I should start a thread asking the rare female NGer what size peen they prefer, or cut or uncut. o.O;

Not to mock you guys, I just found it a little funny to see this sort of thread. Can definetely tell this is a heavy-testosterine site. :D

I remember a guy-friend of mine noting that he preferred a handful size over smaller or larger. Sort of struck me as a Goldie-Locks does Dallas sort of tale.

Hm. I guess it should hinge, though, theoretically speaking, on what sort of activities you intend for said bosom. Small breasts lack for certain sport. ^^; But in the end, it all comes down to preference (which it would for the peen discussion, if it existed).

I'll admit to it, since it was a recent 'dee-dee-dee' moment for myself. x.x But it was still funny.

Last weekend was AWA (Anime Weekend Atlanta), so my friend and I go up to the hotel where it's being held. On the way, I decide I need to make a call to my mother for something or another which I forget, so I reach into my left pocket and pull out my cellphone. Only, it's my mother's cellphone. (We have the same type, only different skins, but both pink-ish). So I'm all 'Oh noes! I got Mom's cell instead!' I think I needed to call someone at the con and didn't know their number, thus the upset. So I call home and leave a message. Then I call my phone, since the home phone didn't pick up.

And I hear my phone go off from my right pocket.

*facefault*
