wow really awesome dark. I really like it.
Man I really love Halloween, but I don't dress up anymore. Usually because I'm too busy or cannot afford it. I want to though. Perhaps next year we should hold a Art Forum Costume Contest. That might be fun.
If I had to critique, I think you should have gone a little more white where the bone is suppose to show. But that could also be the lighting of the photo.
You should upload a link to a full size pic.

wait this isn't a contest... Still good loser prize though...

Better luck next time?
So why are you really here, validation, praise, help or trolling? Cause at the moment it seems like the last one of that list.
A lot of my art doesn't have backgrounds either, not to mention a lot of it is just line art, but I'd go out on a limb here and say that mine is better than yours. Just cause it lacks a background doesn't make it better or worse, its about the content that is there rather than the content that is absent.
Anyway I digress
His art isn't the art being discussed here. yours is. So lets not bring it up at all. If you want to discuss his art, go do it in his threads, on his pieces, on his blog or in a pm to him.
Moving back to your piece. It looks like what it is, a bunch of scribbles mostly. Not a strong layout or design. It looks like you traced or filter raped, or both a picture of a person and the white house.
It looks like their might be a bit of dodge and burn tool, improperly used of course.
Over all, its just not very good. So aNay in response to your tread title.
You should study, if nothing else how to use the tools more properly inside the program you have. I'm assuming you used Photoshop or GIMP. Doesn't matter though what program you used, you need to learn and practice with the tools a lot.
You should also look in to some principles of design and some composition tutorials as well. Those will help you layout your stuff much better resulting in much stronger pieces.
Yeah, so better luck next time.
Oh and for the record. Much of my line work is done with a mouse and pentool. So it'll take something a hell of a lot better than this to impress me.

What Internet Browser are you using. For some reason Internet Explorer seems to have a lot of issues with the art portal.
Try switching to Firefox or Chrome.
If all else fails, you could always make a thread here in the Art Forum and start becoming a member of our community by posting your art here as well.
it could be the lack of attention I have gotten recently in the Art Forum, but it feels kind of weird that people are actually talking about something I have worked on...
weird... but in a good way....

This is a nicely done picture. You have done well by your dog.
Some boobies. A lot of these sketches are for an upcoming project I'm horribly behind on.
I like this... and not just because of the boobies. which look a mismatched anyway. Like the shading and I really like the hair. You have multiple levels which really help the piece pop.
last one, just some silly fantasy stuff
I like swords :3
Alright, here is as good as place as any to do this.
So I have come up with my next exercise/project. It involves a couple of things that I want to do for various reasons.
The utmost being that I need an actual project to work on.
The thing will be designing some fake props. Drinks to be more specific. I intend to create the names, then do a logo for the drink. With this I will practice my logo making abilities along with practicing some Typography.
I have little to no skill with typography so this should be quite informative.
Also since I'm applying to a local logo company, the logo practice won't hurt either
Anyway when I'm done with the first two parts, I intend to design and draw the drink. Something like the specific glass it should be served in and such... I'll get to that later.
Anyway the drinks will be more fantasy based so I can use them in Role Playing Games and such and the Inital ideas from them will come from the Primary colors and the Secondary colors to tie it all in to a theme.
So I have the following named drinks.
Destiny Red
The Blue Rogue
Yellow Snow
Violet Sipper
Green Vapor
And
Orange Blend
I've actually been using the Orange Blend one in game for a while now, so it's going to be much easier.
I know this doesn't seem like much of a project, but I think I will find it amusing if nothing else. So I hope I learn from it as well.
So As I get some of these done, some C&C would be really awesome and helpful.
So Here goes, I'll be working on my orange blend Typography tonight as I try to catch up on episodes of Face Off
if my internet holds out.
Delete it! Delete it now! Quickly before it spreads!

Alright boys and girls. Wait. this is the internet.
Well, just boys then.
Ok. anyway its Monday. And normally I'd grease my self up and do some hot male on male wrestling, but this isn't Monday night RAW, this is Newgrounds, and I have other obligations to tend to. The Number one is to up date you all on this little game were working on.
If our programmer has uninterrupted time tomorrow, he'll probably have the shop in by Wednesday. This should have a bit more versatility to the game.
As for instructions. we have the tutorial in and ready to go. So give them a little bit of a thumb through and let us know here if you find any nasty little bugs and we'll break out the can of virtual raid and annihilate their asses.
As for the visual side of things we have added a bit more to the level select screen to boos its functionality and appeal. We have a spinning missile idle animation to keep it from being stale and a much clearer play button for anyone who was a but confused by just that green arrow.
Also have been fiddling with a couple more effects to add a little spice to the game. but not sure what is sticking yes.
So stay tuned, keep frosty, and Wednesday is the next demo release.

hang in ther dude, your doi9ng fine so far.
um... ok. So far, I really haven't found these all that funny. Maybe its out of context, may be its because I don't know the characters all that well, maybe its because you only have two comics posted so it doesn't have any time to grow on me, or maybe its because they are just not that funny.
Post more and I can get a better handle on why I'm not rolling with laughter.
You also need to lay out your comics better. Your pacing and layouts are pretty horrible, perhaps another reason I do not find them funny.
Study other comic strips, look at they way they are constructed, how they flow and tell the story. even simple ones like XKCD cyanide and happiness, order of the stick, the amazing super powers or the early days of MS paint adventure.
If that doesn't help any, go out and get some books on doing small comic strips or look online for tutorials. Their are tools and resources and people willing to help you if you will just go out and look for them.
One bit of good I can give is that the art isn't that bad. it might take a bit more refining if you want to continue this, but that should come naturally with time if you continue to try and better yourself and your work.
good luck and keep working. If you do your sure to get there eventually.
Ok I guess its time for a bit of an update. It is Friday After all.
So far we got the Tutorial done and should be getting it fully placed in the game soon. Also all the art for the Shop is done as well, or at least I think it is done. Who knows when I'll get more orders for more art.
Tweaked our intro opening story craw so it is much more smooth and easier to read. Still need to get a full background for that though.
Got a loading bar done, now to just to spruce up the loading page.
Link to see the crappy GIF of the loading bar. I guess in retrospect, I could have just uploaded a swf to the dump, but meh.
Um, I'm sure there is more that I am suppose to talk about, but I don't remember what it was. Meh, I'm not the guy who normally does the updating thing....
So yeah. if anyone sees any issues with the game so far, post a message or pass along a PM to either Splyth or Shargon
Thanks, and keep shootin.

C&C always welcome.
I can find no errors in this pic so very well done, can I ask how you did this? how did you manage to keep the lines so parralell? since that was an issue for me, I dont know of a function in photoshop that gives me reference (only horizontal and vertical reference lines) other then my eye.
Well, to start, I actually draw this by hand. but the same principles can be used in photoshop with layers. I prepped my grid on a second sheet of paper under my actual drawing. And since I drew the actual drawing on Marker paper, which is a bit more translucent, I could see the grid rather easily, making the entire process quicker and cleaner. If you don't have marker paper or tracing paper, you can use a light box or something.
Even with photoshop though, you'll still need to draw your grid yourself. Although I have seen some speed painters warp prebuilt grids to do the job, I haven't really tried it myself yet.
As for actual perspective drawing, like everything else. it takes practice. and with enough practice, as you know, things become second nature. Best advice I can give, other than the separate grid is try your best to follow your vanishing points. They will solve a ton of your perspective problems. Even if you don't break out a ruler, just keep an eye on where it is at and you'll have a bit smoother time free handing lines.
if I have to be picky the top right corner looks a bit off, but thats because those stones arent in line with the rest so you miss some perspective lines there. it creates the illusion (just a bit) that those stones are tilted towards the viewer. you can either add a similar long line like on the ground or make the stones less irregular so that they line up more to the rest.
alternatively you can just leave it like it is, which is evenly good :)
Yeah I kind of fell off there a bit didn't I?
It happens though. Kind of forgot to check my angle to the vanishing point.
I'd like to see that piece you mentioned though. If you still need some pointers on it, or future projects, here is a PDF for making proportional grids in 2 point perspective. its just one of many methods though.
Keep practicing, and thanks for the comment and critique.

I think I'll look forward to checking this thread every day then.
Will you be taking suggestions? You know, cause it is only right that you do a Predator next...
thats.... not terrifying at all...
um...
to improve. Just study and practice. Draw from life is always good. So Yeah Draw from life. That includes still life, models, buildings, animals, just about anything. And Did I mention practicing? yeah, never get enough of that. Its like a drug. After practicing, you'll find yourself huddled over in a dingy ally sobbing about how much your ass hurts, but at least you now have more of your drug to make it all better... wait, what was I talking about again?
Oh Practice , that's right. practice...
and in answer to your other question, no just because it is not colored, doesn't make it a sketch.
If any of that didn't make any sense, then.... well... read it again....I guess... .or stick around and ask more questions. We'll answer them. well hopefully some one more coherent than me....
Hey I got a simple cannon here for you. Its not much. but it is pixel based and I have an animation for it too.
