Response to: Help With Midi Recording Posted March 23rd, 2006 in Audio

1: Plug keyboard in using midi cables

2: Ensure the controller is turned on, plugged in under its own power

3: Navigate Edit>Preferences

4: Select 'Control surfaces and keyboards' in the drop-list box.

5: Click 'Add'

6: Set the manufactuer to 'other'

7: Select 'basic midi keyboard'

8: In the drop-list box entitled 'MIDI input', select the midi input that your keyboard is plugged into. Alternatively, you can click the 'find' button to detect the keyboard.

If it all works, you should get a green arrow in the 'attached surfaces' window, and the keyboard should function as a controller.

Much mirth will bubble from my visage.

The cool thing is, nobody actually knows the canadian national anthem, so you can get away with that.

Is it anything like the southpark version?

Response to: Metal Gear Solid? Posted March 22nd, 2006 in Audio

the AP was NEVER for sound effects - If it was there would be lots of genres like 'footsteps' and 'gunshots', and even in the page archives I can't find anything like that.

It was, however, built to accomadate short loops. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it went through a phase of WAV only, then WAV or MP3, then finally going all over to MP3.

Either get it out the game, or ask the flash forum. This really isn't the place to discuss sounds, as this is the forum for music.

But if you do, don't submit it to the audio portal or you will probably get banned for using copyrighted material without explicit permission :D

At 3/21/06 08:26 PM, RadRacer wrote: I wanna try this, but I am worried that it will blow up my soundcard or something. Also where is the line in on the soundcard? Like my computer has a mic outlet, headphone outlet then another one that I can't figure out beside those. Is that the line in for the soundcard maybe? Also how do you record it once you got it working thru your computer?

You could put the guitar through a preamp and the headphone/audio out from the preamp into the mic in. Thing is, unless your preamp has multiple outputs, or you have a soundcard that auditions what you play live in realtime, you wont be able to hear what the quality will be like.

Start saving for an SM58 microphone, they're perfect for micing up amps, also get a soundblaster live, which has the ability to live preview all audio input.

I also recommend soundforge or audacity for recording, as they can both monitor inputs.

Reviews are really what matters. In an ideal world, scores would be set only by the review scores instead of having two seporate voting system, but that will probably never happen as it will mean there will be far less votes on anything.

For those who have already submitted their tracks untagged

do NOTresubmit, instead, post a link to the track here, and it will be marked as any other track. The only reason for the tags is so people can search the portal for the competition tracks, and a list can be made, but it dosnt really matter if a few are missing.

Us techies made our own version of the theme, goes as follows:

You're in the chorus,
nobody likes you.
You can't sing or dance for crap
thats why we stick you at the back

you're in the chorus,
you are ex-pend-a-ble
You better watch your back
or we'll drop tormenters on your back

and on it goes.

FFS.

We're doing copacabana as the school musical this year, but we've taken it a step further by hiring a thearter. We've spent the last 2 days rehersing, rigging lights, etc, and I can't get the fecking songs out of my head.

Anyone care to sing a duet with me?

Response to: Classical Section Gone Bad!!! Posted March 19th, 2006 in Audio

At 3/19/06 04:57 PM, MrDrunk wrote: The funny thing is, most of the music in the "classical" section is not actually classical music. Its just orchestriac music that would more easily fall under the definition of the music from the romantic era, if even so. It really is just orchestriac music. Classical music, if my memory serves me, is music from a long time ago that strictly adhered to a certain form. Look it up in the dictionary or a music information site of some sort.

Thats what i've been saying for years.

The thing is though, the AP was designed for the animators as a resource, and since most people who make flash are not the slightest bit musical, then it makes sence to them that anything with strings is 'classical'

I never figured I would need 'bold' or 'italic'. My simplistic style dosn't need that sort of tweaking.

If your soundcard and audio software allows it, export it to a 24bit wav instead of a 16bit wav. I have NO idea why, but it seems to cut the filesize down A LOT on mp3 conversion, and you can still upload it no problems.

Response to: I have a probleme whit the sound Posted March 19th, 2006 in Audio

its possible the track is protected. To get around it, you need a decrypter (cubase does it), but thats infringing on what is legal.
