Randomly Flash kinda effs up stuff. Which really sucks.

I"m wondering if this is a common problem or if I need to reinstall flash.

This happens to me a lot and reinstalling flash does not solve it for me. Sometimes selecting the area where it glitches and going to modify/shape/optimize/set to 1 fixes it for me but it alters the art. If this still happen, you might have to redraw the art with less "curves" as possible. This usually happens to me whenever I use the brush tools. I assume this happens because there is too much curves for flash to calculate.

Response to: How to "properly" export videos Posted November 24th, 2012 in Animation

Whenever I export the video as a .mov, it leaves a trail, look at the image (I use Mac, .mov is my only option, using adobe flash CS5.5) How do i prevent these trails from leaving marks and breaking my figures?

If those "trails" were on another layer, try right clicking that layer and set to guide mode. That way it wont show when exported. Flash is really bad at exporting everything except .swf. When exporting in a .mov, keep in mind that whatever effects or plugins may not be seen when exported. Some people resort to screen recording software when exporting a .mov.

Is rotoscoping like tracing in the way that if you rotoscope you wont learn anything?
I believe that you don't learn anything if you trace a picture, I guess it could be different for animators though.
What is the majorities thought? and you're own opinion
Thanks in advance for any help/answers

I dont prefer rotoscoping because it looks like its constantly changing shape like a shape-shifting clay. I do like how fluid rotoscoping looks though. To me learning how to control solid shapes is more important because it gives the viewer direction on where object are placed but of course you have to design the art to allow the viewer to know the object's direction. Everyone has there own method but rotoscoping isnt for me.

I would like to see how your project is coming along. :D

Have a happy thanksgiving, Hopefully i'll have time to work on it some more tomorrow.

Thanks I'll check the audio portal once I am done. I have bits and pieces of my project here http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1307864. I am currently compiling it on adobe premiere to see how the pacing suits my needs. Happy Thanksgiving too.

Very admirable that your doing everything including music. Hats off to you and good luck on your project. I am undertaking a solo project too and I was considering using a copyright-free soundtrack but I am itching to try to create my own tunes even though I have very little experience in music.

A redo of Rocket Aim Test found here http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/619a9afe8c62d6ad54257cf5 1f901173. The original has been bugging me because it felt too stiff, too much movement, and arkward. I decided to make it simplier by doing only two movements. You can see the full view of the 2nd version here http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/638c752a1b4086c1aeb13e1b 01354060.

Response to: How long does an animation take? Posted November 12th, 2012 in Animation

from all these responds, it all varies. I have taken an animation class and the lesson is to create a full animation with a story 1-2 minutes in length within the semester. The results of the students varies. Some were not complete but animation-wise it looked amazing. Some appeared to be just keyframing. Mine was inconsistent as the designs change throughout the lesson and I mainly had a rough animation because my professor told me to be more concern on how it moves first than add the details last.

Go for it. If this is your first full animation, I suggest making it short as people to get unmotivated in long projects. Its a good idea to post WIP as it can gather some watchers and its nice to have some feedback so you can go back and fix it. I am currently doing a project and posting my WIP here http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1307864.

I've made these (probably the first 2-3 minutes at minimum)

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

Is the storyboard a continuation from your current animation or is it a whole new story?

I agree this threw me off also. I assume it is because of the angle. When he first looked at the cyro-thing, I thought the cyro is standing straight up but I realize it is actually flat down. You might be able to get away with it by working on the background. The second half appears to be not done so I didnt really judge it but your introduction scene is now great. A storyboard is always vital when doing an animation because you'll be able to detect inconsistencies. I usually do an animatic (a rough animated storyboard) to get a feel of how the movie would appear.

Response to: looking for teacher Posted November 4th, 2012 in Animation

I gotta admit that its not easy to find good criticism on the net. If your going for frame by frame, you might consider a tablet or something you can draw on the screen but a mouse is still possible. Since you watched "animator survival kit", do short animation lessons to find what techiques is working for you and post it in the forum to get input. If your not getting input, Private message an animator because it doesnt hurt to ask. If your planning a long animation, post a storyboard so people can figure out what is not consistent.

I attached an image with some notes. Also I dont know if the villian is carrying a dangerous that could cause an explosion. Maybe can you can add more detail on the villian. Your pacing is much better than before though.

Yeah, i'd say that's it,
Should I add more frames or should I make it settle on one scene longer?

I'd say the majority of your scenes just needs more frames . An example is when the character turns and looks at the button, you can just hold the last frame a bit longer. Some scenes you can just slow them down by either animating more or just animate in twos (skipping every other frame)

Response to: Animation teacher says slow down Posted November 1st, 2012 in Animation

He might simply mean to give the audience time to notice what is going on. Some of your scenes cut too quickly that I dont know what setting it is. An example is the third scene where the character is looking through the window. You should have that third scene play longer so the audience can know that it is inside the airplane. Maybe you can animate certain scenes longer or add more scenes so the audience can notice the character character's reaction. An example is when the character notice the eject button, the button scene is shown way too short that I did not notice it was a button unless I watch the movie twice.

If it has been in the any of the daily top 5, you can check this post. Yes flash is only good at export SWF and I am planning to do all my final lines on toonboom. I find Flash is really great with planning because of its ability to edit multiple frames at once.

Do you have samples of your animation? If its made in flash, you can post it in the Dumping Ground. Usually its the timing but I cant really tell unless you post your samples.

Response to: Should I continue with this? Posted October 20th, 2012 in Animation

Great background and the use of color. The character appears to drag on a one foot and lifts its foot on the other. There isnt much to comment on as there isnt much of a introduction. If your motivation is really low, I say do another project and continue on this later. I usually end up just wasting time whenever I am unmotivated.

I am starting to think there should be a sticky post with all the animation resource because this is asked frequently. You should check out this post. http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1204483 as it has tons of resource. I personally recommend watching videos of an educational animation film called "Animator's Survival Kit" as it helped me a lot.

I think it would look a bit better if it was all blended together as one movement. What I mean by this is have her turn and start to pull the rocket launcher up, then once she's fully turned have the rocket launcher keep going up and eventually forcefully brought down by the girl. This will give it a nice sense of weight if you know what I mean, it's a bit hard to explain.

Your correct. it is stiff. I am planning to redo the whole thing at a different angle because while I was editing all the scenes together, it felt too disconnected and it did not provide the excitement I wanted. Thank you for the criticism and I will keep that in mind.

I use goldwave. Its a light weight program and it features a doppler effect (make audio go from slow to fast). A lot of people use audacity because its free. Adobe audition/soundbooth is a popluar one but I find it does not feature a doppler effect. I suggest go to try them out as I find it better to control your audio instead of going through thousands of sound effects.

At 10/5/12 08:30 AM, Nicholas-Deary wrote: I've seen this asked a number of times here but the simple answer is that neither of them are better, they were made specifically to preform different specialised tasks.

Yes, FBF looks better in general as you have a lot more freedom with it but it's juts not practical (especially in a time based scenario) to use all the time. Same sort of thing goes with tweening, it's great to use for a lot of simple tasks to save time, but people tend to frown upon it if you only tween.

Exactly. Instead of picking a choice and ignore the other, why not observe both and keep an open mind. Some techniques from tween do speed up from FBF scenarios. Some FBF do copy a paste certain parts or retrace lines so does that consider FBF? It does feel like a waste of time to redraw from scratch while copy and paste some parts look exactly the same anyway.

Response to: Sfx + Music Posted October 5th, 2012 in Animation

soundsnap dot com is a good one that requires one to pay and you can preview before you buy. But honestly I usually just use a few good quality sounds and I adjust them. An example is that when I use a footstep sound and it sounds weak, I adjust the pitch to make it sound stronger. I find it easier to control the sound instead of finding a specific ones.

Response to: Tweens Vs Fbf Posted October 4th, 2012 in Animation

I prefer FBF but there are some good tween style animations too. As long tweeners go farther than typical cut out animation and figure a way to give the illusion of some 3D shapes than I'll be interested.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhoZPz_FJn8

How do you go about this? some things i was able to monetize but mot of them i wasn't...
If i tell them i create them they just disable the monetization for the video and it will not be looked up again unless i delete and resubmit which does not make me happy!

What happens when you try to monetize? Does the monetize button just freeze or says error when you press the button? When the freeze or error happens, I use a different internet browser like internet explorer and it works. My default internet browser is Chrome.
