I have compiled all my clips into one movie. There is still a lot that needs to be done though. The movie still needs color, background, music, and better sound effects. You can view it here on my youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=299BF87zGy4

it appears to have a form change on the roll but its very well done. Animating strict geometric shapes tend to drive me nuts because even the smallest detail error can put it off.

for me its a requirement, i've always admired animators and i want to try my hand at it to make something someday.

so heres this for today. http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/356d2f601eb2f4784eccfd8f dc9cad0a probably an improvement but its hard to tell, i dont have the eyes of an animator. Its very strange being able to see flaws in illustration but not animation. Ill get this right damnit.

The knees appear to pop down once the foot makes contact to the ground but I like the fluidity though. Keep on trying dude. You do have good drawing ability and your effort really shows. A lot of people here has a comment about straight forward animation but I think its fine to some extent. I do straight forward animation on effects such wind blows, cloth/hair movement, and smoke. Those old Disney films are done in straight forward animation but those animators are called masters for a reason. A tip to find errors is to add simple shapes on another layer to detect animation errors. My other layer is literally just boxes marked with a center line. Everyone is wired differently so keep finding techniques that works for you. I tend to write/draw notes for myself so I can remember what I am doing.

I can understand where he is coming from. I would be angry when a large profitable company ask for a disney style animation for free. I assume many people create animations here because its a personal project but doing it commercially is a different thing. I do believe art is looked down on but people dont realize art can provide a lot of attraction. I wouldnt do it free because I am already banging my head on the table when something doesnt look right.

Yea I dont think there is a default button to duplicate layers. It could just be me because I do run several programs. This has happen before I reinstall flash. It does not happen too frequently but I'll make back up save copies just in case.

Stop flash from duplicating layers Posted January 30th, 2013 in Animation

I notice that flash sometimes duplicate all my layers in the same timeline. I have a feeling I was pressing the duplicate keyboard shortcut by accident. Is there anyway to prevent this or find the keyboard shortcut to disable it?

Did you turn on pressure sensitivity for the brush? Its jagged when its off. Someone pointed out adjusting smoothing helps also. My smoothing setting is 45. It will not be perfect though. Sometimes you need to use the selecting tool and adjust by click + hold + drag an edge of a line.

I actually use flash cs5 but you can try resetting your workspace. Sometimes you might from resize your tool panel. Try pointing at the bottom edge of the tool panel and click + hold + drag downward to see if it pops out.

Response to: Help with character poses Posted January 21st, 2013 in Animation

do gesture drawing exercises. They are quick sketches done under a minute. They dont have to be amazing but try to make an understandable writing with a few lines. Gesture drawing find you get more fluid motions and also helps you get ideas out quicker. Some people do these exercises as a daily routine. It looks like something like this image below but everyone has there own approach to gesture drawing. Once you get the gesture drawn, you can put your finalized line. http://www.posemaniacs.com/ has a system where you can do 30 sec sketches but its recommanded to get a real-life figure from sketching outside or photos.

If you really suck at drawing, I'm gonna bet that you can't really animate.

Learn to draw, THEN learn to animate.

If you want to learn how to draw it's just practice and study. Same with animation.

That is true and it depends what type of animation your looking for. A lot of people take a preexisting drawing and chop the limbs into a tween animation. If your going for a more realistic body movements that frame by framers use, I recommend practicing a mix of quick gesture drawings and a more strict drawing of a real life figure. Doing this practice can let you get ideas out much easier. This will take a lot of practice and some people do this for a lifetime in order to maintain their skill.

Response to: Walking animation! First try! Posted January 17th, 2013 in Animation

Its a good attempt but I dont recommend depending on rotoscoping (tracing a animate image) too much because it can look like its changing shape too much and it doesnt really teach simple shape if your really new. I do like how rotoscoping provides fluidity though. To keep your shapes stable, try drawing simple block shapes on another layer because its a good guide to know where your objects are placed. I assume your using photoshop so it cant play to two layers at once. It is recommended to try an animation program (I use flash) so you can use many layer to test your animations easier. Here is my example of using simple shapes on one layer to keep my drawings consistent and a final line art drawing on another. My simple shapes are colored green while the final line art is black.

Yes I got a 4220 but its a Intel Core Duo 2. The hot spot is where the fan is placed. The air blowing out does get really hot. I do wish to get a Cintiq with a powerful desktop but with that money its better for me get a laptop because I move around a lot. I'll get another Fujitsu and although its pricey, it great to draw on and its reliable.

My first attempt was crappy but I'm actually really happy with this attempt and I think I can get better if I keep practicing things like this :)

My plan is for the rest of this month practice small things like this and then at the end of the month/beginning of next try make a little fight animation or something and see how that turns out.

Anyway what do you guys think?

It appears on the 2nd frame, it enlarges and than shrinks. I tend to draw box shapes in another layer so I can keep the consistency. Response to: Is Anime Studio 9 any good Posted December 23rd, 2012 in Animation

I heard about this program several times but I dont see major studio using it or people saying anything about it. I dont know anything about the program but when the program seems to be ignored by people is a bad sign.

Response to: Software In Animated Tv List Posted December 23rd, 2012 in Animation

A lot of studio use toon boom and I believe toon boom has a showcase of what TV show use there program. Family guy used Toon Boom. I dont think any major studio has use the program called Anime Studio so many steer away from that. I remember researching about many japanese animators use a program called Retas. Flash has been used on a cartoon called Johnny Test. Although these studio use a specific program to animate, the planning process can be a mix bag of any program used or simply with a paper and pencil.

Response to: 60 frames per second (Hobbit style) Posted December 18th, 2012 in Animation

its crazy for a frame by frame animator to do 48 FPS which Hobbit was filmed in. In my opinion, 48 frames make action scenes weaker. An example when animating someone getting punched in face at 12-24 fps, the less frames make the action feel faster and more impact. I can imagine at 48 fps the viewer will notice every detail of the punch because there are more frames but it will feel slow thus making it less exciting. Sometimes things are just better not seen.

Hi, I'm PinkamenaDiane. I'm planning on making fan-anime stuff for YouTube someday, but I really need some pointers...

First of all, I'm struggling with getting animal proportions right. There will be characters that have a human form and an animal form, though they are mostly seen in animal form. Does anyone have some good tips for getting the hang of wolf/cat/etc. proportions?

Also, does anyone have some tips on how the animation should be done? Like, how many frames per second?

Thank you for your time.

Animals are extremely hard to do and I only attempted it once. There are videos of animal walks from "animator survival kit" and there are some examples here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEw-2WBoNEA&list=UUlc39E9lgCq nlqixXSoOksw&index=8&feature=plcp
and here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INQx-Lzs8mU&feature=related

They are mainly about horses but you can try to apply them to any 4 legged animals. If your planning to be a serious animator, I recommend buying "animator survival kit" in book or video form. As for how many frames, thats up to you. My fps is set to 24 but I actually animate at 12 fps. I do this because the 24 fps setup can provide a smooth camera move. The 12 fps animation is for sanity sake because its time consuming to draw every frame. You dont have to draw every frame if the distance is about 1 pixel also.

Response to: Do u suggest using a drawin tablet Posted December 7th, 2012 in Animation

At 12/7/12 06:14 AM, WiLiAm98 wrote: Sorry for me sounding like a retard who can't spell in the title, there wasn't enough room :(

Anyway my question to you guys is do you suggest using a drawing tablet? I've tried drawing with the mouse and have failed completely :( I feel that a drawing tablet would be easier but I would just like to get some oppinions.

Many feel that a drawing tablet is necessary to draw but it is not for everyone. It can take time to get accustomed to it because drawing a 1 inch line on the tablet converts to 5 inches on screen. I had a drawing tablet for some time and I could not get used to it. I am using a Laptop with a drawing screen and I find it is the only way for me. If your in college and in a art major, I suggest you to ask the art department if they let you loan a tablet. If you have friends, try borrowing it from them. If you cant borrow it, try the cheapest wacom model called Bamboo because a lot of people favor it for animation.

At 11/30/12 11:04 PM, Asperchu wrote: Also, how do I show something without it looking choppy but not 1000 frames
I mean I usually re-draw everything for every second and I was wondering if I could do nicely done keyframes and kind of nice 2 frame inbetweens. I really want to get something good done but I can't do that if i'm re-drawing everything as it'll probably take me around 7 months.
What should I do?

If you going for consistent strict lines of a mechanical pencil, I think your stuck with retracing that way. As for making animation less choppy, I never put an animation at a center of an arc. I usually add the key poses first but I concentrate on easing in and out. If its fast movement, putting a smear would give it the illusion its smooth. I animated at 12 fps (or what animators call "animating in 2s")and I found that technique works for me.

Sometimes when I'm painting in fills Flash decides it's going to fill the whole shape. Or when I rotate, scale, or move multiple shapes together their vector information will get all jacked up and things will bleed into one another.

I add a screenshot and I believe random black boxes appears. This happens me to whenever I use the brush tool and it happens randomly while drawing. Like you said, it could be the vector information got messed up. Its really annoying when this happens because it stalls my project.
