but as for the shoulder:
what i did wrong wasnt really the shoulder; it was the head. i shifted it over in paint and noticed the obvious mistake: its wayyyyyyyyyyyy too far to the left.
if im going to submit this to the art portal (which i think i will) im gonna fix that; but right now its only for the battle royale, and my introductory pic being slightly unproportionate wont be the end of the world :P

yeah it does seem like you just draw it once with no underlying outline or anything, which, as simple (and unimportant) as it sounds, IS very important, and can help make your picture look 10 times better
shapes, like said above, help form the basic structure; after all, everything can be made into a simple shape. circle for the head, ovals/circles for eyes, maybe triangles if you add ears? stuff like that
another example, your squirrel's tail MAY seem hard to make out of shapes (idk it might be hard for you) the end is a circle, and the part that connects the butt to the circular part of the tail is a cylinder

i hope you can find sense in this. frankly, im starting to confuse myself, so im stopping :3
