This doesn't deserve it's own thread so I'll ask you guys here.
Tablets. What do I want?
I've used a Genius Pensketch since like forever and it was allright, but i've never used another brand so I have no frame of reference.
Is it worth getting a Wacom, as everyone seems to swear by them? Or will I do just as well with the tablet i'm already familiar with.
I've got no real complaints with the pen sketch except the pen battery life is a little short but the tablet itself was just fine - and from what I can see, a similar priced wacom tablet has a much smaller drawing reigon...
But then, would it be a more responsive/higher quality drawing reigon?
It doesn't make enough of a difference to flip out over, imo. If you like your current tablet, there's no reason to switch to a wacom just because other people like them. It's the artist's skill that makes good art, not necessarily the tablet.
Now that that's said,
I have a Wacom Intuos4 Small, and I like it a lot. Some people like the bigger surface areas and such, but mine works because it is portable plus I prefer to draw on smaller areas. The Intuos series are also generally more responsive (they have 2048 pressure levels, I believe twice as much as the much-more-affordable Bamboo). They have some extra buttons and doo-dads that some people need/prefer. You can get an Intuos tablet with a bigger area, but then it gets expensive. Mine cost 200 bucks for 4x6 inch workspace.
I can't really testify for the Bamboo tablet because I have never owned one, but I know others on the forum that do and they seem to do fine. They are much bigger, and cheaper, and although you get "less pressure levels", I don't think there is much of a difference. There's less buttons though, I think, and the pen doesn't have any buttons or eraser side (correct me if I'm wrong). But if you dont mind spending ~120 bucks to try it out, go for it?
Once again, I should stress that if you like your tablet and do not have any qualms about it, to just keep using it.
And if you are high-end tablet shopping, the Cintiq has a screen :o but its stupidly expensive, so whatevs lol.
TL;DR Intuos are expensive/"better", Bamboos are cheaper; keep your tablet if it works.

All of the art is very interesting in this thread, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more.
As with this TV image, though, it shows that you need to work on the hands.
