Oooh man, when I first started just messing around I made some wobble preset on Harmless and fell it love with it, used to use it as main wobble all the time. But recently I've moved to trying to work with massive. I feel like the automation options are kind of crappier, but it definitely produces some insane sounds.
By the way, just whipped this up trying to think of something. It's a harmless wobble with a couple filters and whatnot strewn in. I just made a neat little bassline and automated it half heartedly, but I don't know where to go from there. Should I add some chords and whatnot throughout and other basses? Should I add in lasers at every bar? I mean I'm kind of okay with the bassline itself and the wobble is nice, but it just feels so bland, especially after all the buildup. That's really my main problem, I can make a nice buildup but I can't follow it up for shit.
So I've noticed when I try and make dubstep that I'm pretty good at making it right up until the drop. The ones I make always sound too bland to me and I have trouble making it sound as aggressive as I sometimes want it.
For example, I'm currently working on a Requiem for a Dream remix and I really like how it's turning out so far , but I just can't get a drop I'm satisfied with (hence why the song ends right after the build up).
Are there any sort of tips or tricks to writing a good drop? I've watched countless tutorials on dubstep and EDM production but I still just can't get them to sound right or the way I want.
Note: I've produced with other styles and whatnot, this isn't a case of "I want to be a dubstep producer because they're so keeewwwwwl" this is just me wanting to experiment, I listen to a lot of dubstep so you can understand how I want to dabble in it.
Wow you guys I have to say, I'm really liking the changes to this series. It's come a long way since it's creation. The whole team, BlackPeople, SafePlagirism, Jomillex, Emrox, you're all gonna make something great!
One thing though, I feel like the show needs a bit more sex appeal. I have taken the liberty of adding some changes to the characters so that we can reach that broader demographic. Tell me what you think.

Sounds great man, let's get it going! PM me if you've got any questions or if you wanna discuss anything. I'm just looking for 3 verses and a hook (that will be used in the bridge). Remember it's gonna be 160 bpm!
Looking forward to collabing with you man.

Sure man, even if you just did a loose storyboard or animatic I could probably work with that.
Hey, I've been wanting to collaborate with some other people for a while now and have also been wanting some vocals for my music, so I thought why not turn to the wonderfully talented people of NG?
I'm not going to "release" this or anything, really this is just for fun and an attempt to broaden my (our?) horizons. So if you're looking for money, go to the 6 other singer needed posts I saw on this forum. If you're simply passionate about singing/rapping or just want to do it for shits and gigs, I'm your man.
I was thinking a Drum and Bass track, so it would have a nice fast intense sort of feel to it, but am willing to change it if you want to. You can completely write the lyrics if you want to, I don't exactly mind what it's about just as long as it's not absolutely retarded, pardon my french.
So yeah, if you wanna do this respond here or go ahead and shoot me a PM. The song will be at 160 Bpm, so just keep that in mind.

AGenius I think you should throw in the towel, there's no way you can compete with this.
I'm totally digging "Big Box of Weird Porn". If we were to collaborate, would provide a storyboard for the music video, would we toss ideas back and forth, or what?
I'm kind of busy but I feel like I could help you out man, you've got some talent. I smell an up and coming Bo Burnham.
Pshh, don't listen to these guys man they're just trying to mess with you. I really would like to help as this looks super unique and wacky but I'm a little tied up at the moment. I mean literately, I'm tied up right now to a chair typing this with my tongue. Have you ever had to type with your tongue before? It's really hard. Even the shortest sentences take ages and ages and ages and ages to write. Seriously, you wouldn't believe how long it takes to type things with your tongue man.
Anyway I have a close personal friend of mine who has been looking for a job like this:
Can we get a minimum - maximum time limit range?

Is it?
Actually wait I had to change something quickly, here's the final.
Thanks for the help everyone. Some pretty great advice all around.
I've always preferred leaving my drawings black and white when I was younger drawing on paper, so I never really learned how to know what colours mix.
Are there any techniques in choosing colours to use in an art piece/animation or is it just about using your eyes? I'm semi-colour blind in that I mix up a few colours (red and green, blue and purple ect.) so colours are also a bit of a bitch in that way, though it isn't too hard to work around.

Is this collab still open for another animator..?
At 5/31/13 06:49 PM, Jomillex wrote: Jurgen there was a collab about this a while ago haha we were both a part of it..
Haha yeah man! It was on the right path, but everyone just kind of faded away, especially the people who's parts I was most excited for.
That collab though was just one battle per pair, with each attack being animated back and forth by the two members. This one would definitely be similar, but with multiple battles between different match ups and I think the fact that you'd be able to choose would be pretty rad. Kind like this collab for Pico day.
I've been thinking about a "fighting tournament" collab. Each member designs a character, is matched randomly with other members and then must animate the fight scene between the two characters.
For example if two memebers - x and y - were paired up with each other, they would each individually animate their own version of the fight between their characters, x would make a fight where his guy wins, y would make a fight where his guy wins.
The collab would be set up kind of like Super Smash Brother's tournament mode (the best comparison I can think of). There would be a starting round of 6 or so battles. It would show the matchup and a bio, as well as a character description, for each of the characters involved, and then the viewer could click on which character he wants to win. It would then cycle on throughout the tournament like that, each victory being determined by the viewer. Almost like an interactive RHG tournament, only without stick figures.
The problem with this idea is everyone would have to animate at least 3 or 4 battles with their characters, making it a long commitment. I've seen far too many collabs with awesome potential slowly die simply because people couldn't keep working on it for as long as it was required, so I wouldn't want to start this up only to have it wither and die before it's even half completed. Also, beginner animators couldn't join - unless they were actually good - simply because the quality would have to be relatively consistant between all the parts.
I don't know though. If enough people joined and we really put some time in, it could make an awesome collab. It'd be really interesting to see the stylistic differences between each part, and because you decide who wins, the collab would have re-playablility, prompting people to re-watch it and make different decisions to have a different viewing experience.
What do you guys think?
At 2/11/13 02:04 PM, A-Genius wrote: Any feedbacks? Please
We still don't know what's even going on. There's some guy, or maybe a girl, on her knees and I think she's begging, then the other person standing up appears to have a whip...but then they just shake around a lot and nothing really happens.
So in terms of feedback, I'd say maybe you should try re-doing it, or at least a few of the shots, to try and better tell the audience what's going on.
The movements are quite fast and almost robotic-like, it's pretty displeasing to the eye. For example, when the person on their knees is shaking their head, they do it way too quickly. Smoothen it out a bit, and have an extra frame on the end of each direction where the head only moves a small amount before shaking the other way, if that makes sense. It'll make it look more lifelike and realistic. Motion doesn't just stop dead like that, it always will slow to a stop, faster motion means a quicker stop, but nonetheless I'd say a good 90% a motion should have an extra frame or two after where it is slowing to a stop.
If you don't hear back from me then I guess that means that I couldn't think of anything. Either that or I'm dead.
Okay so as it turns out, my part goes over 60 frames. Bummer.
I guess I'll quickly whip something else up in the next few days.

Oh yeah I recognize that, but what I'm saying is that everyone else seems to be getting acapellas that I can't find. I was wondering if there were any other ways of getting acapellas that I don't know about. Some sort of magical secret or something...
I'm sure this forum gets enough of these posts so I'll keep it short.
How the hell do you find acapellas for songs? I already know about acapellas4u, but let's be honest, they really don't have that many songs. Or I guess just not any of the songs I'm looking for.
For example I was looking for a "On Melancholy Hill" acapella and couldn't find any legitimate ones, but yet came across several remixes of the song. Do these people pay for a studio acapella, or are they just looking somewhere I'm not?
I've looked into making my own and have tried, but failed.
Where do you guys get your acapellas for remixing purposes?

I'm not sure yet, as I don't really know what the background could be - I mean just drawing in a house or something like that not only is irrelevant but could kind of ruin the feel - but yes I will add colours, and if I can't settle on something for a background I'll put some sort of effects in the background or something.
Sorry sorry sorry.
This keeps getting put aside, but I've actually started animating my part now haha. 50% done, will try and get it done by tommorow night after work.
Hope I'm not too late or anything. Do I need to make an icon for myself?
I made a kind of interesting dubstep song. Thought I'd share.
