Yes, .mp3 files are smaller... I believe .ogg files are smaller (with same quality) than that.

Well Erkie mah boy... Knowing how I am, I will probably send my submission the last second. hopefully it will get through..whcih leads me to a question.

What file size should I submit? I was thinking 192Kbps since it's short. But what file zie can your email client handle in an attachment?

The first version of my song I spent 4 hours on... I thought it was great and saved it, converted it and all. Next day I was playing around with more sounds and found more that sounded cool...So I added more.. another cople of hours....
Mah, I keep finding stuff to add. My damn SCHOOL and WORK scedule is pretty lame and I'll be finding little things here and there the change until the due date.

Feel free to kick my ass later, hah.

Response to: Shpongle = Awesome ambient music Posted May 13th, 2005 in Audio

I think that song was referring to Pink Floyds song " The Gnome" where Syd says "and then one day, horay, another way for gnomes to say hooray."

Another great song.

Shpongle = Awesome ambient music Posted May 12th, 2005 in Audio

"Shpongle is back, with a new album, 'Nothing Lasts' a reference to Terence Mckenna and one of their many influences, the imitable audio pioneers, Simon Posford & Raja Ram remind us not only about the impermenance of life but also how to rewrite the ambient agenda with yet more spell binding music from their outer cosmos that is 'Shpongle'. With sonic waves in a sea of synths, battalions of brazilian batucada beats, flamenco solo's, piano solo's, vocal soarings from Hari Om and trancey dubs this really is more music from the otherworld. A place of undefinable and indescribable beauty where all cultures collide, genres are rode over roughshot, and nothing is outlawed. For those that know them these will be sentiments they recognise and welcome as further evidence of Shongle's reputation. To those that don't, welcome to a new universe one with it's own language and musical map, a place of beauty and impermenance." - Twisted Records

Never heard of shpongle? Well, you can check out their website here.

I've done that before in 3st grade.

A week before the incident I broke my leg and my wrist playing soccer and I had some lady push me around school in a wheelchair for like, a week (pretty sweet).

Well, one day I had to crap at school so she wheeled me into the bathroom and left, I fell, and I had the squirts really bad, I I just did it right there on the floor.

Email me about it

Response to: Weird problem. Posted May 10th, 2005 in Audio

I had that same problem, and I don't know why. But somehow it got fixed.

I do, however, know that I use WinRAR now. I would suggest downloading that.
Just goto Downloads.com and search. =)

If that doesn't work....hmmm try WinZip.
Best of luck...I've felt your pain.

Weird problem.

Response to: Help me! I'm trying to submit... Posted May 9th, 2005 in Audio

If you're putting the sound up as a .WAV, the problem is probably either the Sample rate or the bit depth. Default Bit depth is 16 and sample rate is usualy 44100 Hz.
Try checking to see if that's it.

Also, you may want to jsut convert it to an Mp3.
I use a program called "WaveNET mp3." That will clean up any problems with the Bit depth and what not. You can find the program pretty easily. Just goto Google or Downloads.com and search that thing I got up in quotes. ^^

Response to: Reason Posted May 8th, 2005 in Audio

Well, a long time ago I tried downloading Reason 2.5 off of a P2P program. It would have worked fine if I had found the image files for the 3 CDs.

But, that is stealing. And tisk tisk to me on even trying.

Reason is a great program with tons of plug-ins, I bought it for $200 at Guitar Center (I get these monthy things in the mail with sales and such. The reason I got it so cheap was because they were making room for the newer version. I bought that too. So I ended up paying about $350 for Reason 2.5 and the 3.0 Upgrade. Pretty spiffy.

There are tons of sites out there where ou can purchase it cheaper than retail.
You can download the trial @ http://www.propellerheads.se and also watch the kick ass trailer. =)

To answer your question quickly. You can, but it would take alot of P2P searching to find the correct files.

But hey, believe me, Buying it is totaly worth it. You get tons and tons of stuff to mess with. You also get updates and refills from propellerheads.se

Have fun,
Jonh2o

Response to: Audio Portal Voting Posted May 8th, 2005 in Audio

I wanted to add something.... you guys should consider posting your songs on soundclick.com if you want your music Hurrrrrrrrrr.

The whole site is dedicated to music, that is why EVEryONE goes there. unlike Newgrounds.
There's billboard charts and all that jazz...It's pretty cool. Doesn't seem as homely as newgrounds though. Don't imagine you get many reviews either. But hell, it's free. and it wouldn't hurt to post your songs on their also!=)

Response to: Audio Portal Voting Posted May 8th, 2005 in Audio

I think the audio portal voting system should have just 2 possible votes:

1) Like it
2) Don't like it

Within those two votes comes a little list that you can scroll thru and choose the most acurate reason why you either liked it so much or didn't. Very broad. This may not appeal to everyone, it would take, max, an extra 5 seconds of thinking. Maybe only allow voting after half of the song has played. (It's kinda like that in the flash portal, you can't vote right away, you have to click on the "play this game" link and wait a few.) NG could allow the artist to view the results and see how many people have rated the song and get a generalization of why their music is liked, or not, and would get far more feedback, since not that many people take the time to review.

Maybe you guys can elaborate on this idea. I'm out of coal on my train of thought.

Had to add my 2 pennies!

Response to: Battle of the Audio Portal Posted May 8th, 2005 in Audio

Awesome. I should visit the forums more often if stuff like this goes on.

Count me in!

Oh yeah, a question for you (anyone that can answer): Is the rating system going to be all, technical and stuff? I mean, are the tracks going to be rated by Quality, Originality, use of instruments, depth, rhythm and such; some weighted more than others? Or is it going to be more simple with just a grade on them?

No worries if you don't really know. I don't even really care. I was just curious is all.

May be a bit too "out there" for a few people, I tend to wander when getting to the end of a track.

Listen to "Dial-Up Sucks" and "Tour Et's Dream" first before listening to anything else, I consider those better than the rest of my crap. It will also give you an idea of what I make. Save you some time. If you like those two you have a better chance of liking my other stuff...Consolodate your time!
It'd be cool to get some constructive ideas/thoughts. If you have any, hah. I donno, I Like to hear suggestions.

*Feel free to enhance your musical experience*

Waddup guys.

Though I'd give a Hello to everyone. Wanted to let you guys know that I'll count myself in. I've made a few songs using Reason and posted them up. I consider myself slightly new to the whole idea. I got a MIDI controller like, a month ago, so my newer stuff sounds alot better. Though I'd let you guys know. Feel free to take a listen =). Pretty 'weird' stuff. May not appeal to too many of you guys. I havn't listened to any of your guys music so I have no idea what to expect! Hah.

Anyways, yeah. This is JonH2O speaking....Typing..whatever.. and uh, yeah. I'll check your shit out!!
