Or maybe not, maybe I'm wrong. I can only hope that the redesign will be so incredibly mindblowing that everyone will have a mental orgasm and nobody will complain and everyone will be 100% satisfied about it. But knowing human nature, that's not going to happen. People will find anything to complain about, and when they do, I'm there to laugh about their nonsense, because I do that, I take joy in the ridiculous behavior of other people, it gives me glee.

I was following you champ. I mean this is newgrounds people bitch about EVERYTHING here. I was trying to reason with the would-be complainers before that happened.

anyways cellar, I hope you like it.

Since everyone has been getting so worked up about the redesign, since it is getting so much hype and everyone is going crazy with anticipation, people are going to be horribly disappointed when it actually comes. It might be fine and dandy at first, but people are going to have all sorts of things to complain about within a day or two, worse than the current complaints that people have about the delay of redesign.

I predict that numerous threads will be made over the course of the first few months, with various things people will gripe about, many people saying things that amount to "I wish they never made a redesign, I want the old one back" or "They should have done this, why the hell did they do that?" etc...

I already know people will complain about the sig size, which according to a thread a while back is going to be longer, but skinnier, making picture-themed sigs even harder to create than they are now. Expect all kinds of things like that. There may even be glitches or problems that will make the new redesign no where near as glorious as people believe it will be, and they will bitch and moan accordingly.

So mark my words, the redesign is going to be a flop, and people are going to cry about it and I will laugh.

you know, you are the biggest negative nancy Ive ever seen on this site.

ive seen so many site redesigns that were just more cluttered, ad filled nonsense, but thats not us. when it launches, you should all spend atleast half an hour going through everything before making judgement...there's no way you'd want the old site back.

and thanks to jim and ross, adding new features is easier than ever before - many of which are planned out, but everything takes time.

Not to mention that since most of the new Transformers stuff (such as Energon, Cybertron and the movie) is done in 3D, it's technically all tweens anyway.
wrong.

lazy 3d animators do rely on the software to do all the work for them (like you), but good 3d animators do exactly what 2d (or what some call "frame-by-frame") animators do. pose-to-pose hand tweaked on 16's or 8's, then they break it down until it's all on 1's or 2's. Films like Ratatouille or Transformers - the one you mentioned - are completely void of "tweens".

i think it wouldnt be quite fair to compare ratatoulle..which i think was worked on for 3 years to a small staff that had to crank out several hours of animation for one season of an animated tv show - sure the shows sucked i think, but I dont think I'd call em lazy..they were probably working in sweatshop conditions to get that all done on time

I only feel bad for those people since I know what that was like. haha

Yeah... I think that even Adam Phillips tweens... He's primarily a frame by frame guy, but if, you look closely, it seems as if he draws very few new frames. It looks as if the squash and stretch technique is all tweened. I'm not certain, but I think Dan Paladin uses similar methods.

I've found that tweening is very hard to do without, even if you try to be a frame by frame purist.

phillips and dan are two guys who use flash most efficiently..they are great animators, but know where tweening can occasionally save time.

ignoring this collab for a moment tweens are always ugly and mechanical and make people lazy so they pretty much are the scourge of flash.

eh you just gotta use em tastefully - they're a tool but they're not a way out if you have no talent. i go alittle overboard on detail sometimes and my style is totally not suited for frame by frame animation....and I also dont like animating all that much - thank god for tweening.

Hmm, i'm thankful I read this when I did then! Do you think the sort of coloring I was doing was a bit too "painterly?" I haven't gotten that far, so It's not a big deal to start over in flash now.

its fine. again, we never did a contest like this before and we all had preconcieved notions of what we wanted. i think as long as the outer edges are clearly defined..(unless your sprite is glowing or something crazy) it'll be ok. but thats just me.

I like the different thickness of lines that you use. Did you do that on purpose or did it just turn out that way?
Purpose. I actually made the outline on paper and inked it, I just can't stand doing that shit with the tablet. I have no idea how Jeff, Jose and Stamper do that shit without going CRAZY, it seems to take ages to get what I want with that stupid-ass tablet. I can ink that drawing within an hour with my good ol' brush and pen.

ive been on a wacom for like..6 yrs now. I used to do it the stamper way with bending lines then converting to fills, but it was driving me insane so ive opted for just using the brush and using thr smooth tool in places to get out the kinks. its not as precise, but i can live with it.
