Hahaha, I'm just reading random posts in this thread, it's funny as hell. Okay here's another one I just whipped up, another boss from final fantasy. what do you guys think so far? is it dark on yer monitors?

i'm gonna do a few more entries too, i reeaallly want that wii.

i like it. just keep in mind that the intention of these was to imagine putting them back in the game. try to think of em as a detailed animation cell. I really do like some of the more painterly ones in this thread, but they may be hurting their own chances of winning if they're too much like production art and not something that could be used theoretically in a hi-def 2-d game.

I like the different thickness of lines that you use. Did you do that on purpose or did it just turn out that way?
Purpose. I actually made the outline on paper and inked it, I just can't stand doing that shit with the tablet. I have no idea how Jeff, Jose and Stamper do that shit without going CRAZY, it seems to take ages to get what I want with that stupid-ass tablet. I can ink that drawing within an hour with my good ol' brush and pen.

ive been on a wacom for like..6 yrs now. I used to do it the stamper way with bending lines then converting to fills, but it was driving me insane so ive opted for just using the brush and using thr smooth tool in places to get out the kinks. its not as precise, but i can live with it.

Are we suppose to draw a cell-shaded HD of the sprite. Or can I do a soft-shaded style for my entry? Thanks in advance!

check out the ones submitted so far. you can do hard edged coloring or a more painterly look - your choice.

Lol, it wasn't a very complicated picture. I just drew it with a mouse on MS Paint I don't know how I could've traced it...

No MS paints allowed? It looked pretty good (to me atleast)

post it again, and ill tell you if it was deletion worthy.

I'm already having a terrible time picking the best one and we still have 2 weeks to go. choosing the top 5 is gonna be a complete nightmare. with that said, there's a bunch I really like so far and some that make me wish for death, but thats the way it is with all these contests.

Here's a very rough guide for those that dont know what to do based on what we've got so far. I just obviously threw this together with random examples.

SORRY iunic, i love your art but I'm gonna include it again here for people to see what not to do. dont take it too hard, we all love you.

these are not close enough to the sprite:

well i like the head, but id bring in the leg so its more in the pose of the sprite.

I'd suggest to everybody, to blow up the sprite and overlay your art on top so it resembles the same shape and pose.

Nice png version.

i like it shirt turtle.

I think if you want some advice, add some detail, or enhance the coloring atleast.

we dont wanna see total trace jobs here. I'm totally open to changing the style alittle too...but it should have the same basic proportions and shape/pose as the original sprite.

there's TONS of games out there. you dont even need to do the games main characters. you can do an enemy or boss.
