Of course he can draw what he wants. But When people don't like what they see, they are gonna say something. Just like gay people. People know they can legally be gay if they want, but people often express how they feel about this in very negative manners ragardless. No-ones gonna shut it just because it's a more or less free world, there will always be someone willing to shout their disagreement from the rooftops. Therefore, your words, however logical, are in vain.

Anyway, no-ones really attempting to dictate him, but trying to convince to expand a bit. No harm in trying, right? There's always a chance one's words won't fall on deaf ears.

-Try to learn to draw real people. It will be harder, but you will gain a lot more respect because anime is far too overdone.
