4.07 / 5.00 13,902 ViewsFFF-- So I work as an admin for an accounting firm, and since the new financial year has rolled in, I've been incredibly busy with work! :( So not a decent WIP this time, but a WIP regardless. I'll be emulating a "chalky" look for The Star, while lighting in the centre (for the star in her hands) will be quite dominant. Will show that in the next WIP. Low quality jpeg cos my computer is being retarded right now. :|
The other model. I'm proud of the fact that I was able to capture her face quite accurately with a little amount of lines~
Bigger girls holla! More to love, I say.
The next few posts will be from when I went to Dr Sketchy's, which is basically a burlesque life drawing event.

That being said, I hope you're going to make that star as bright as a possible, otherwise the girl is kind of distracting o.o
XD Sorry. Yes, she does take the focus off a bit. I'll take into account what you said and make the "star" more... PURDY.
Hey hey~ Here's my WIP of The Star. I hope it's not too, uh, cartoony?
Heya Knocturne! May I call dibs on the Star? How long have we got left till we come up with the finished product?
I like! Such a dynamic and swift-looking kick, yet the guy seems to have good balance.
:HOW DOES HE DO IT
Pardon me for invading your thread without critique, but I'd like to offer my 2 cents in the whole character design <-> world relationship. You said in an earlier post that your character's design influence the world. I beg to differ; I think the world is what determines the design of your character.
There are physical aspects that you briefly touched like the vastness of the world. OK. That's one. Now, think about what are the consequences of such a world? Is transportation going to be super-duper advanced? Is telecommunications possible? What is the technology like?
Countries/territorial boundaries, do they exist? Are there governments or any figures of authority? Social classes?
Do water even exist here? Will humans need to adapt their needs, grow wings, fins, massive noses?
NOW. Temperature. Holy hell your world will have a huge effect on your characters. Will there be a concept of DAY and NIGHT? In that case, will there be Day creatures or Night creatures?
... you see where I'm heading with this?

Hey there, thanks! I shall do just that now that I'm getting acquainted to markers more and more.

Great experience for those who really want a different take on figure drawing though
Wow, your own models! That's way cool. I was going to say that my expectations for Dr Sketchy's were too big that I came out feeling that it's not really a place to 'hone your skill'. The models couldn't stay still or stop talking to each other, and I felt frustrated at the fact that they pretty much just modeled in front of one person, instead of facing at different people so I kept having to draw their backs 80% of the time. It was interesting to have 2 models though, interacting with each other so that I had think about negative space more. The burlesque outfits were also preeeeetty. But like I said before, it's no place to study but it's great to meet new people or to network. The last Dr Sketchy's I missed, apparently Neil Gaiman was there! @@;
Anyone ever been to a Dr Sketchy's session?
It's pretty much just like life drawing, but the models are dressed in burlesque outfits. I went to one last night and it was quite entertaining. The outfits are cool and their poses are more expressive (NB: suggestive) than regular life drawing. I was also suprised that the models were interacting with each other (which isn't normal I think?) so the drawings are more complex at times, considering negative space and whatnot. :)
Random fact, Radiohead made the MOST money out of that In Rainbows release compared to all of their albums. So whoever came up with that idea is GENIUS.
Attempt at a self-portrait. Still a long way to go though... :/

Anyway, I've been wondering for a while... Is there anybody else that draws while under the influence of various narcotics (alcohol, various legal herbs)?
I ask incredibly tentatively.
I've never tried to draw under the influence. I only drink with people not by myself, and I almost never draw when people are around, so... never really had the opportunity to I suppose.

Unfortunately I didn't win. But it's alright, at least I retain rights to the image so that I can reproduce it and make stuff out of it. :)
Here's the finished product~ I used watercolours, but it was a little dull and I was running out of time to keep layering. So I used markers to darken other areas.
Now to do a mad rush to finish my AVAT entry! Peace!
New WIP! I'm submitting this for an album cover design contest. The theme is "Seed"
I really enjoyed looking at your pieces. There's definitely a signature style... I love it. Keep it up! =)
REALLY?!?! O__O I must check out this Wayfinder of yours!
MOAR copic marker practice! I pulled out one of my long due commissions and finished it. This is a portrait of a friend of mine Hnilmik, who asked for a professional-ish-looking picture for her voice-acting career.

other than that i like it, has allot of power in the lines.
Thanks for the comment! What do you mean about the hips? As in I need to make it smaller and less rounded? ^^ Would you think the feet are too... twisted?
WIP for the AVAT.
PEW PEW PEW!!
Sooo I'm trying to incorporate a background and a story as part of my personal development as an artist. Any feedback would be awesome. She's robotic enough, right? RIGHT?
Wow! The colours are amazing in this one! Great job~
I don't think it's masculine at all. Digging the oekaki feel too~
Hey guys! I'm not sure if this is allowed here, but I'd like to share some really cool resources.
Figure Gesture Drawing tool - Practice drawing people here!
Same as above but with animals - Practice drawing animales of every type
Disclaimer: These aren't replacements for life drawing, but great if you're confined in your house!
Idea Generator for when your brain has melted - I love this one. Choose a category that you wanna work on, changes every refresh.
So have you got any resources, sites, tutorial-like things to share? =D
Hey there! I'd like to offer you a different perspective. From the short time I got to test out a Cintiq 21UX, I actually felt sort of limited in terms of vision. I was too used to watching at the monitor while my hand is drawing away in the tablet, that when I used the Cintiq I was getting annoyed at my hand being in the way most of the time! Though I'm not saying they're inferior to tablets in that respect, just giving you another "con" asides from the price.
Another thing you should probably consider: Are you more comfortable drawing with your wrist or your arm? If it's the former, then a small-sized tablet would work for you better than a Cintiq. I found that the Cintiq requires more arm movement because you can't really rest your wrist on it (it'll register as pressure) unless you have a protective glove, and also why the hell would you buy a 21" responsive tablet when you only work on a tiny area. But yes, if you draw more with your arms then you should be ok.
Great stuff! I fail at anything lineless.
Following your tumblr. Oh and oh hai, I'm from Sydney too!
Good concept, but I think it needs some more emotion here. Without looking at the title, it's hard to say that these are toys waiting for adoption. Maybe have the image zoomed out and show that the toys are shoved away in a corner of a child's room and the child has clearly grown out of them. Maybe have one of the toys just laying awkwardly to its side, forgotten, rather than standing up. Collecting dust. Stickers peeling away. Yeaah. There are heaps of things you can add to this to make it more poignant, but good start!
