I guess your suggesting that the inspiration will come to me, as opposed to me having to look for it. Which is comforting on many levels but also not greatly helpful for my current writers block.

Ive become way too perfectionistic..

I find this all the time. I begin writing something and a few hours in to it I listen back to it only to find that it's much worse than I thought it was. I guess I'm gonna give taking a break a try. Hopefully the next time I come to writing something, it'll be a masterpiece.

I appreciate what your both saying but do you not sometimes feel like the software you're using restricts you in making the music you want to make? I often feel like I've got good ideas for different sorts of music, but get put off by the vast amounts of effort that has to be put in to it. Perhaps it's my lack of musical ability, or my lack of money and hardware, but I find it nearly impossible to get the exact sounds I hear in my head and this is a major factor of my general lack of inspiration.

I've been writing music for years and I've always enjoyed it. But at the moment I've got absolutely no inspiration for writing music. I'm feeling bored with writing and just feel like I can't be bothered to spend all the hours into writing music that is only going to be listened to by members of newgrounds and friends. I suppose the questions are, does anyone else ever feel like this, and has anyone found any way to put the buzz back in to music composition?

Here is a thread in which i explain in a graphic way how to use a descent piano with Reason. =)

I agree. Use reason if you have it. Many people mistake my piano songs to be played by me. I can't play piano in the slightest.

All of my songs are poorly mastered, and it's something i've had trouble with for years. It does help to have more than just fruity loops to master with, but I think trial and error is your best bet. Hopefully after a few years the mastering part will come naturally to you, and you will be correcting and mastering your music without any trouble.

Good luck with you songs man.

Just go wild man. Try getting some nice sounds to fly round the panning in rhythms. Try getting some call and response between speakers. As long as your main instruments are properly mixed, I think you could get away with some really cool panning effects.

Good luck.

Could it possibly be a midi file converted in to a song using reason or something? Because I think that technically makes it a remix which is allowed I think. Would not a jazz CD use a real drummer etc? I don't know though, your probably right.

Is this not more of a popularity contest than a 'best artist' contest? It will surely be the same names appearing. I'm not trying to discredit the name that will come up over and over again, because they tend to be the top end artists. But I still think this will turn out to be more about popularity than musical talent.

Or perhaps i'm just being wrongly dismissive.

Do you mean google search for Goa track Identification? I've already tried it. The problem is it doesn't have any lyrics I don't think. I just have a 22 second sound recording I made on my phone at a rave. So it's really hard to know what to search for.

Alright Guys, i'm searching for a techno/psytrance tune at the moment which i'm finding impossible to indentify. I've got a couple of quick questions about this.

1. Should I be asking about this here on the audio portal.

2. If so is there already a previous topic for helping people identify music.

3. If not 2, then would it be possible to start one.

and finally, if none of this is if avalible or allowed, would anyone with a good knowledge of psytrance or techno let me PM them a song to see if they can ID it for me.

Cheers.

I'm not entirely sure what effects your after. But could you not search for a halo video on youtube and then rip the sounds you want with something like audacity?

Either that or if you have the game, you could play and record it.

If that isn't what your after i'm afraid I can't help you. Good luck with your halo mod.

Over here in the UK, if we make an original work/art it's copyrighted. Simple as really. But other measures don't go a miss.
Is there a procedure there in the UK? What if someone steals another one's work and claims it as his/her own? Just curious...

I live in the UK and I can tell you straight off that this isn't true. Sure it is your own work, and it's illegal to steal or use other peoples work without their permission but you have to be able to prove it was yours. Basically if someone nicks your material, prove it was your material.

I think it's because theres this 'interactive pixels' competition. Someone's asked for people to write a 4 second jingle for their flash. I know I submitted one which is probably what he's on about.

Sorry about that man, but if someone wants a specified composition, the audio portal is the place to ask for it.

I don't even know what kind of effects and synths I need! All this is just so turning me off from continue composing, and I really don't want to quit...,T_,T

Question: Do YOU always make sounds from scratch, or do you use presets?

To answer you question, I use both. I usually find a preset sound that is generally what i'm looking for and adjust it until it is exactly what I want. Just keep going for it man, don't give up just yet. It's hard work but the more you get used to creating your own sounds the quicker it will get.

Good luck man.

I'm from the UK, but don't own a midi keyboard. They are useful but i'm under the impression you shouldn't skimp out on them. My mate bought one for about £50 and the keys started to break after a couple of months.
