I think it's OK. But if you can try and make it clear in the title. 'Title - (voice acting)' or something like that.

Topic: Banned from the Reviewing

Posted: 06/19/08 02:41 PM

Forum: Audio

Although I'm only expressing my opinion here and aren't totally familiar with the NG rules, I don't think you should be banned from reviewing in this instance. I do totally agree that slapping together premade loops and calling a song your own isn't really music making. And those that do use only loops and call themselves artists, spend alot of time finding and editing these samples to make them original and their own. I've been given low reviews before and been accused of using just premade loops in a couple of my songs, which did piss me off as it was all my own work... but i'm drifting a little here.

Essentially, you should be allowed to write whatever criticisms you have as long as it doesn't break the rules. However, it seems like you are just voting low out of bitterness and not out of the music it's self. I guess my advice is try and be a little more constructive when reviewing peoples submissions. If someone releases something made from premade loops, why not say "you did a good job of arranging these loops, however why not try creating your own sounds in your next song?"

I guess what I'm trying to say is show a little respect and you'll get a little respect back. This doesn't mean you can't say what your thinking, but try and do it in a polite way. People tend will listen to your comments if you make them fair.

Firstly, it's certainly not techno. It's more like cheesy, trancy, euro pop.

But if you really want to find it, try searching for the lyrics and see if that helps.

Listen to lots of DnB! It's the best way to learn how to write it.

Check out artists like Clipz, Dillinja, Future Prophecies and Calyx.

Listen and learn ;)

You can use sound fonts to make your change your midi sounds in to more realistic ones. It does depend on what software your using to make music though.

Try googling 'soundfonts' and see whether they can be of any use to you... good luck!

Good luck with the drum and bass quest man. I've been trying to nail it for years but still aren't even close.

It's so funny how the anti drugs campaigns over the world make ecstasy out to be so lethal. The reality is the MDMA is statistically one of the safest drugs that you can take. I'm guessing plenty of people are going to disagree with me so I thought i'd give a little evidence as well.

Drugs and Harm

If your too lazy to read theres a graph towards the bottom of the page.

Anyway on to the rave point. I can only speak for my own experience in England, but they seemed to have died out. People complain about the noise and waste that ravers produce and the police quickly shut them down. However if your describing a rave in terms of clubs which are open late, then London if full of them (as I imagine any capital city will be). There are even a few places which are open the whole weekend non-stop.

P.S. The European techno scene still lives ;)

Rap is so terrible it makes any well constructed beat deserving of a good melody to just shrivel up and die.
Then you could just ignore it.

I was hoping the NG audio forum was finally rid of narrow minded trolls but it's apparent they still lurk around.

Oh no you did 'n! I'm really not a fan of Rap myself but am looking for an MC for one of my songs. It's dubstep if anyones interested.

I think you've just got to be sensible really. I actually heard it was a certain amount of bars that you are allowed to copy as opposed to percentage or amount of seconds. I think it's more a case of 'Oh I see what sample he used there... that sounded good' or 'OK that is blatantly copying someone else's music'. I use samples in my music, but try not to take the piss with them.

But to the original point, I think it should be alright to submit your cover as long as it is distinguishably different from the original

Topic: Music Tower Defense discussion

Posted: 04/15/08 07:09 AM

Forum: Audio

This sounds like an awesome idea. However the obvious difficulties are with allowing the user to create somewhat original tunes whereby it is beneficial for the songs to sound good. If it was simply a case of placing a tower that will shoot a kick drum noise, the best tactics would be to create a somewhat gabberesque sounding piece for every level. I think you would need to have certain areas for kick drum placement and snare placement etc. Perhaps having a tower like a bass tower which will rhythmically vibrate all areas of the map and hurt enemies (giving the music some flow).

Anyway, this sounds like a really exciting idea. If you need any musicians for this project i'd be glad to help.

Hmmm, I haven't really played around with this but when your converting a WAV to MP3 in audacity doesn't it give you 2 different options of MP3 to convert to (ID3v1 and ID3v2). I guess I would try converting to one of each and see if either of these are accepted.

I'm sorry if you've already tried this or it doesn't help. Otherwise, as SBB says, just try a different converter.

Topic: "Happy hardcore?"

Posted: 04/13/08 08:09 AM

Forum: Audio

I hate happy hardcore... but thats my opinion. I can't stand that it gets voted highly all the time... thats my opinion. But the key thing is... it's only my opinion. Lots of people do love that sound on this site and I don't think it's fair to vote 0 on a song just because you don't like the genre. Whenever i'm reviewing I will try and give it what I think to be a fair rating, taking in to consideration the genre and how well it is produced for that style. So please don't vote 0 on every happy hardcore song you here as it just makes you 0 bombing twat.

Secondly, I have to agree with you on the fact that it is not the same as trance music. And to all of those who say bpm isn't relevant, I disagree. Bpm can be hugely relevant when classifying music. Trance is generally much slower than happy hardcore. Although it is only a guideline and there are therefore exceptions.

Lastly, don't get too caught up on music that gets praised even though it is obviously wrongly catergorised. Most of the music in the drum and bass section really isn't drum and bass at all. In fact I would go far to say that 95% of the drum and bass section isn't drum and bass. But it's just a case of having to label your work as something.

So just calm down. Don't worry about it. If people like what they hear and vote highly then that is simply representative of popularity.

Topic: Audio (Mixes) Legalities

Posted: 04/11/08 08:21 AM

Forum: Audio

It's a tricky one. I think most of the people here do tend to write there own music. But use of samples isn't such a bad thing either and is not necessarily illegal. I believe that currently you are allowed to sample up to 4 bars of music legally. Many artists have done extremely well using just samples of others music. DJ Shadow for example.

I think you do have to be careful however when selecting your music from the audio portal. My best suggestion is that if your using music with live instruments, you could always PM the artist to make sure that it is all their own work.

If your using electronic music, I wouldn't worry too much. Most of the software that simply works by dragging samples in to a sequencer allows all of the samples to be used royalty free. It does annoy me though when people submit work created in this fashion, as it is so easy to make a professional sounding piece with barely any skill and creativity needed.
