I don't get it. Isn't the Wiimote already supposed to emulate 1:1 movement? Is Nintendo going to charge people for an attachment that makes the Wiimote perform the way they promised it would when it was originally unveiled?

Whoo, won my first online match of Civ Revolution, an economic victory with the Spanish. I got very lucky too, one of the people I was against was well on his way to a technological victory and was in the lead in all categories except economy when he lost his connection and dropped out. I guess they don't set the AI for online matches very high because it did a piss poor job of handling the advantage. Fortunately when I got to 20k I wasn't hit very hard. Only the two AI-controlled nations realized what was going on and limpy attacked me, completely ignoring the city that I was building the world bank in.

Also, a big thumbs down for a complete lack of online-centric achievements. After a four and a half hour marathon I think I deserve something to commemorate my efforts.

When Napoleon beckons you with his outstrectched index finger and eyebrow raised defiantly in the face of every shooter in the 360's library you have no choice but to heed the call.

Chances are, if you own a 360, you already own a good shooter, so I'd suggest Civ Rev to get some variety in your library. You should probably get the demo anyway just to make sure that it's your thing.

Magaman 9? In MY Xbox.

It's more likely than you think.

And don't be afraid to build a boat early on to go looking for the artifacts, they tend to be waiting on little islands that can't be reached by foot. Finding them before your opponents can give you a huge early-game advantage.

Where did I hear that? :\

The PS2 doesn't use emulation to play older games like the 360 or newer PS3s do. Essentially the PS2 also has a PS1 chip inside of it so trying to save on a PS2 memory card is like sticking one into an actual PS1 and trying to save. Of course, I'm sure Sony could have figured out simple work around for that, but seeing that they're slowly phazing out Backwards Compatability in the PS3 I guess we're lucky to have gotten anything.

Yeah, unfortunately you can't save data from a PS1 game onto a PS2 memory card so you need to have an older memory card around if you want to save your games. It really adds an unecessary level of frustration to backwards compatibility. I'm assuming it's the original PS1 release, right? I'd assume the Metal Gear Solid that comes with Anthology 3-pack would work with the PS2 memory card.

THE'VE KEPT THE BUBBLE SPEECH

Thank god.

I was looking over those previews last night, I wasn't looking forward to a Banjo sequel when we were all sure it was going to be a return to the exact same hop and bop collect-a-thon formula of the first two games, but Rare's really impressing me with what they've shown so far. I'm looking forward to fucking around with different vehicle designs and finding new ways to explore the gigantic worlds; which, by the way, look fantastic. The build mode does bring up disturbing memories of Kingdom Heart's gummi ship, but hopefully the integral nature of the vehicles inspires more creativity.

Mongols are ridiculously good, every barbarian city you destroy becomes one of your cities instead.

That sounds really good on paper, but I learned pretty quickly in the demo that poorly placed cities stay stagnant and quickly get overtaken by people who are producing more culture. Then you're running the risk of losing troops and helping someone achieve a cultural victory.

For a while 2D sidescrollers were really whoring out the concept of a gigantic body in the backround and giant hands in the foreground that you had to jump on to reach the boss's head. I haven't fought a boss like that in a whle though, but then again, I haven't played a 2D sidescroller in a while.

Understandable. Have you decided to get Civ Rev?
I'm getting it tomorrow. I hope to be sucked in like everyone says will happen.

Me too, I stopped by Gamestop today thinking it was already out so that was a nice waste of gas. The good lord knows I loves me a good turn-based strategy game so I should be spending the better part of tomorrow conquering nations and devising paths towards scientifically and culturally enlightened empires.

Posted: 07/08/08 06:02 PM

Forum: Video Games

Sounds neat enough, but the idea never really caught on when Sega's Game Gear had the same thing nearly a decade ago and I doubt it will be more than a novelty now. I don't think many people are buying a gaming system so they can watch television on it. You're kind of defeating the purpose by dumbing down an active medium. Plus squeezing something meant for a large screen down onto the DSs tiny screen has to be a recipe for a headache.

It's a nice idea, but nineteen pages isn't all that much. I think we're still pretty far away from needing a new thread for brawl pics.

Meh, more likely than not it's going to be a glorified port of a game that most of us have already played. I would have preferred a sequel or an entirely new game. I guess Square-Enix is pretty intent on rereleasing their entire library of games, but it's getting a little ridiculous when they port FFIV to the GBA only to bring a remake to the DS two years later. What happened to the the compilations of the Playstation era where you'd at least get two games in one package?
