Favorite songs in Guitar Hero is odd because I love some songs from a listening perspective, but from a gaming perspective they may be too easy or hard, or they may just not translate well into the game. Generally speaking these are all songs that compliment my skill level, I haven't yet FCd them so there's still an impetus to actually play them and they're not too hard that I feel like I'll never get them. If I turned on Guitar Hero right now I'd be perfectly happy jumping right into any of them.

I've been playing games since I was five and I've never once gotten angry enough to break a game, controller, or any other object that may have gotten in the way in my wrath. In the rare occurance that I do get a little miffed I'll punch a pillow a few times. Why would anyone even consider breaking a sixty dollar game? Why would you let yourself get so angry over a game that's supposed to be enjoyable that you wouldn't be able to control your own violent actions?

Well, my dad works at EA and I've already had a chance to play it. I won't reveal much, but if you're a fan of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin or AC/DC then you're going to be really happy. Also, and I'm not confirming anything here, but don't be surprised if you see an official announcement for a double bass fo the drums, a guitar with six frets, and a new "solo mode" for the vocalist.

Seriously though, don't go and spread this news anywhere. I had to sign a contract to keep all of this secret. I don't want to get in trouble.

A majority of the songs in both GHIII and Rock Band are masters and it's already been announced that ALL of the songs in Guitar Hero World Tour will also be masters. So there you go.

That was one of the worst articles I've read on IGN in a long time.

They asked all the right questions, but all they got back were businessman answers that evaded the point. It's big news so they had to put it up anyway, but it still sucks that it ended up as a big advertisement for DLC. Guitar Hero World Tour put itself into the ring in a big way so I hope they have some crazy shit up their sleeves if they're going to be this coy.

Backwards compatible DLC is pretty cool, but who didn't see that one coming?

Maybe I'm a desensitized prick, but I could only think of how hilarious it would be if, after the head was removed, the body continued to place the hat on its stump of a neck only to have it slide back off. The body would then confusedly swish its hand in the empty space where its head once belonged before lifelessly slumping towards the ground.

It's sad, I guess, but how stupid can you be? Did he think they put up two fences covered in warnings just to inconvenience him. Even a five year old can grasp that concept. He couldn't have informed someone from the park that he lost his hat in a restricted zone? The real victims are the other park patrons who weren't able to ride the awesome Batman coaster because of he lost his already worthless head.

No, you can download something while playing a game in single player mode, but as soon as you go into any of the game's online offerings the download cancels.

I was listening to Cowboy Song by Thin Lizzy yesterday, and when the solo started the first thing I thought was "I'd have to star power that".

Ironically enough I actually made a custom for that song. It's pretty fun, but I didn't use a tab so most of it is probably charted somewhat incorrectly. I spent a hell of a lot of time on the solo though so I think that's almost exactly what Neversoft or Harmonix would have charted. It's decently tough and I'd never be able FC it on the GH 2 engine, but I think you might be able to crawl through it without star power.

I don't know if anybody does customs, but you can download it here if you want.

I say that the big announcement is that they've finally finished the Lord of the Clans adventure game set in the Warcraft universe. Starcraft: Ghost has been completed at long last as well. There's probably another side story game based on the Diablo lore too, hence the different runes.

Topic: Is the PC going to die in gaming?

Posted: 06/27/08 11:16 AM

Forum: Video Games

PC gaming isn't going anywhere. People have been pirating computer games for as long as I remember and even though it takes money away from the industry it's not killing it. Even my parents were playing copies of the old Sierra adventure games on our back in the days of the Apple II. Yes it's more commonplace now, but the market's grown with the piracy. People have been calling the PC market dead since th N64/PS era and it's just not going to happen. It's potentially more powerful if someone wants more graphics, it's got an infinitely larger selection of casual games for newcomers, it's got a massive backlog of games, it's really the only place for the modding community to go to, and there will always be more computers than consoles with the owner probably playing some kind of game on it.

It's decent, but personally I think it's the weakest Guitar Hero setlist yet. It really depends on taste, but if you prefer hard rock and metal you're going to be upset. Breed, China Grove and Anna Molly are the big gets that I would have loved to see in a full-fledged Guitar Hero. Also, a fifth of the setlist has been recycled from Guitar Hero 3 so that's a big letdown for me.

Battlefield Heroes is set for release in Q4 2008. No specific date yet.

Castle Crashers is completed, but there's no set release date since all XBLA games need to go through a certification process first so it could still be a few months away.

Topic: Trading in games is horrible.

Posted: 06/25/08 10:13 PM

Forum: Video Games

I remember a while back when EB was still EB they had a promotion where you could stick all the games you wanted to trade into a big bag, slap a sticker that they circulated in EGM on it and get 30% more credit on them. I traded in so many awesome games that I should have just held onto. I think after all was said and done I'd gotten something like $170. I rode that as my gaming allowance for the next year and I thought I was hot shit for being such a thrifty consumer. It was still probably a rip off, but back then, since none of my friends wanted to buy any of my games, it was the only avenue a kid had to unload the games he wasn't playing. At least it was something.

The big gaming chains used to have good trade in deals all the time and I keep seeing less and less of them. I remember there used to be promotions where you could tade in three old games for a new one. All you had to do was find three shitty games and bring 'em in, no questions asked. I guess they wisened up and realized that most people will trade in their games regardless so there's no need to entice them with an offer that's at least marginally better than the usual paltry sum.

Every other free song, aside from Dream On, is still available so I see no reason why this would be another exception. Dream On was only a one time deal because they were trying to build hype for Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. If this song was going to be taken down any time soon I'm sure they'd have mentioned it in the press release.

I wonder if that's only going to be for the basic Pro bundle or every model. An across the board cut of either $50 or $100 would put the Arcade bundle at a significantly cheaper price than the Wii (if Nintendo chooses to maintain the $249 price tag. I doubt even that would stop the Wii's juggernaut sales, but it would be interesting to see none-the-less.

Yeah, that's me. I'm not diagnosed but I'm pretty sure I've got it as I don't give a shit about anything somedays and then flip shit the next.

That's not Bi-Polar either, it's not one day you're angry and then the next you're blasé, that's just being an average moody teen. Bipolar disorder is when you go from a clinical depression, which can include crippling sadness, inability to socialize, overeating or a complete lack of appetite to a manic state where you might feel incredible, but you can't concentrate on anything, your mind goes into a hundred different directions, you take on enormous tasks at the drop of a hat, and you may spend all of your money on things you don't need.

I don't think anyone here needs to worry about Bipolar Disorder. A lot of high school kids think they do because they get sad occasionally and the next day they're happy. There's nothing unusual about that though. In fact, it's much more prevalent in adults than it is chidren.
