In general, I'd say you hit the nail on the head with your first observation. Men tend to be more attracted to physical features, whereas women are more often attracted to stability.

Obviously I'm not an expert, nor is that an end-all, but that's what I've noticed.

I recall reading in a magazine awhile back that straight women and gay men have the lowest obesity rates, as a result of fitness and general physical attractiveness being notably more attractive to men than to women.

It's an interesting topic.

I feel bad repeating myself like this, but the thread is just barely large enough for people to forego reading earlier replies.

I do work. And as of tomorrow, it will be ramping up to 60-70 hours a week until further notice. In the fall, I will be attending college to study physical therapy.

I am anything but passive. He just feels that pursuing a dream could get in the way of... something. I'm not sure what.

I agree. Unless I reach a point at which I can easily make a living as a voice actor, I will continue to work in a more practical field.
It's just that voice acting is one of the very few things I can see myself truly happy doing, and I don't want to ignore that.
Happiness is more important than excess money.

Response to: Traditional cartoons > 3D cartoons Posted June 16th, 2014 in General

Apples and oranges.

If I'm watching a televised cartoon like Bob's Burgers, Venture Bros, ATHF, etc. I'd personally prefer that they're two-dimensional. It just fits.

If I'm watching something a little more serious and personable like Star Wars: The Clone Wars or one of the many CGI films coming out in the last decade, CGI takes the cake.

It's easier for me to relate to CGI characters, but it's easier for me to simplistically enjoy 2D characters.

OP should give a lot more importance to gainful employment and developing a future where he can support himself and/or a family.

Until then, things like NG and a wish to voice act should rightfully be on the backburner, aka hobby. Especially if the persons feeding and sheltering him are fed up with him.

I am 18 years old, having just graduated high school. I have a job, which is going to be 60-70 hours a week from tomorrow on. I am attending college in the fall, pursuing physical therapy. I had actually planned to move out now, but my parents convinced me to stay for "cost effectiveness." Although really, the gas money in order to travel a 2-hour round trip costs more than living in-county.

My point is, I'm doing things. I'm working hard, and I'm not putting all of my eggs in one basket. That said, voice acting is my dream. It's more than a hobby. Music is a hobby. Lifting weights is a hobby. Voice acting, to me, is so much more than that. But I'm not going to allow that pursuit to preclude obligations.

I'm also wondering what else you're going to develop your talents for voice acting. Have you done research into the area of your chosen career? What are some of the things you can start doing right now, every day, that could be of benefit to you? Are there jobs in a related field that you can get? are there people you can find that know that world and can mentor you?

Although the degree I'm pursuing is in physical therapy, I am also taking theater classes and vocal classes. As a matter of fact, I'm going to school on a theater scholarship, which is pretty equivalent to my entire tuition.
I'm also constantly searching for voice acting opportunities, including about five projects at this very moment.

I really do want to switch to a part-time job ASAP, but at the moment 60 hours a week is my only option. There's a Casey's that seems interested at the moment, though.

I don't think it is, but perhaps being a seasonal job negates typical overtime regulations. Either way, the hours won't entirely kill me so long as I'm able to jump ship as soon as possible. Even two weeks means a solid $900 or so, which is nothing to complain about. Still, I'd like to have at least a little time to live a life, particularly being 18 years old. Working 40 hours a week would be totally fine with me. 60+, however, is pushing it.

Afterward, I'd use the money to become a stay-at-home voice actor/actress mommy, and raise my child to be ten times the person I've ever been.

Try to find a legit job and/or study and keep vocie acting as your Plan B.

I'm about to begin studying physical therapy at college, and I'm working on obtaining part-time work to supplement the grants and scholarships I managed.
I have a practical plan and whatnot, but he's worried that I'll end up giving it up to be "happy" instead.

No worries, I only plan for it to be temporary. It's a seasonal 60 hours a week at $7.50/hour with no over-time, which is kind of a shit set-up. I work out frequently, however, and have built up a lot of strength - so the work shouldn't be too incredibly destructive. I'm hoping to begin working at the local grocery store for 20 hours a week once I start college, which will hopefully leave room for voice acting and music.

If it's a cheap microphone you're looking for, check out the Blue Snowball iCE, or just the regular Blue Snowball. Fantastic microphones when used properly, each for well under $100.
Rice Pirate actually uses (or used) the Blue Snowball quite frequently. If you know what you're doing, it's a handy little device.

Response to: What is happening to this place? Posted June 15th, 2014 in General

Newgrounds is not dying by any means. Traffic is much slower now than it was ten years ago, but I don't believe it's any slower than it was two years ago.

This is just a bad time of day, since the only place in which it is evening (prime internet time) is the Pacific Ocean. There aren't a lot of people there.

Daddy Issues Posted June 15th, 2014 in General

This is not what you think it is.

I just had a conversation with my father. He was rather upset with me, because he feels that I will never amount to anything in my lifetime. He told me to give up on "this Newgrounds crap," and my dreams of one day voice acting professionally. He told me that I'm a lazy piece of shit.

He said a lot of things.
I said a few things.

Long story short, it sucks. I know I'm not a hard enough worker when it comes to things I'm uninterested in. I know I'm an autistic mess. I know that it's unlikely that I'll ever make it anywhere in the field of voice acting.

But really, the hopes of achieving that dream are all that's keeping me going. He knows that.

My family life isn't even bad, so I feel stupid for being hurt by this. My parents have mostly been very good to me. They're just super unsupportive is all.

I'm such a little girl about this stuff, let me tell you.

I'm sorry to vent like this. But I don't usually like talking to anyone, and you guys are like a distant, dysfunctional family to me.
Is anyone else going through anything in particular at the moment?
Anything you'd like to share?

Let it all out, baby. Let me taste your melancholy.

And the Riddle School series.
