Response to: Hosting a collab w/ Flash 8 Posted July 28th, 2011 in Animation

> = exports files openable in
Cs5 > cs4 > cs3 > fl8...
There are two problems you may face:
1. Someone uses a newer version: youll need to have one-three dedicated friend/member/etc. With the other versions (cs3/4/and even 5 would be nice) who could convert it to 8
2. Someone uses a feature available only on newer versions: You could organize the collab but have someone else with cs5/4 compile it, in that case, youd need someone also really dedicated and willing to spend some time putting everything together, this is a lot harder than youd think and only gets harder when dealing with bigger collabs, you could let whoever did this submit it as a reward for spending more time than ordinary members

Id also like to remind you that you need a BA (average of your three highest scoring submissions) of 3.50 or higher or permission from a mod from the collab forum to start a collab in the ng bbs collab forum

google swiffy (and adobe wallaby) Posted July 1st, 2011 in Mobile

So google recently unveiled a little app called swiffy, which can convert flash 8/as2 files to HTML5, which basically means it can be played in your android/iDevice/etc., just upload something below 512mb and youll get a bunch of html5 with css3 and javascript

Of course, theres also the adobe wallaby, which does the same, but I have yet to see it in action
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/walla by/

Now both are very beta and have their limits, buts its sure a lot of fun seeing your creations on your tiny screen, in a not so far away future where this is better, newgrounds could have a mobile website with some html5 versions of popular flashes!

Response to: try Pipeline for your next collab! Posted June 17th, 2011 in Collaboration

Very nice, Will definitely help lots of collabs, I suggest adding a chat feature, even if its using some sort of existing service, preferrably a service that works on smartphones, these are a great way to help the leader always be there and discuss something that would take a day on a thread or an email in 10 minutes

Lookin forward to the collabs this will help and to a future of better, organized collabs

Response to: New Collab- Programmer Needed Posted June 15th, 2011 in Collaboration

Id be up for it
example:

I can do anything as seen above or simpler
I wont be available from july 15th till august 15th
I would do this kind of premade menu before that where you've got all the buttons and frames and frame labels, with full code and placeholder art, so then you'd just have to replace the art with your own and define a few variables like number of parts, this DYI menu thing could actually be used for other collabs in the future, I use AS2/flash 8, and although i would highly apreciate, i dont require co-authoring

the #2 topic in that doesnt say a thing about tweens, but watever, just do this, it should help:

Go to File -> Publish Settings
click on the "Flash" tab
next to "Audio Stream" click "Set..."
select "ADPCM" in the dropdown box

otherwise, you could have the audio in by using actionscript, have this on the frame you want the audio to start, make sure that frame goes until the end of the audio without any other keyframes after it

awesomesound = new Sound(this);
awesomesound.attachSound("awesome");
awesomesound.start();

youll have to right click the sound file in your library and change linkage to "awesome" which you can switch to watever you want...

Response to: Submission needs help. Posted June 14th, 2011 in Animation

Changing the compression method to ADCPM could also help, you can either edit the audio files compression, or the compression of the entire audio in the flash in the export settings jiggamathing

simple: audio compression
I wouldnt doubt it would sound a thousand times better on youtube (ffex should be putting it up there soon)
actually: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtIdkHLvQ ek
actually, it still craps out, lol, but yeah thats the problem... ffex has an upload limit of 20 mb, im sure upping the sound quality a bit would get it past that

Response to: The Many Kirbies Collab Posted April 13th, 2011 in Collaboration

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Congrats to everyone, specially to ffex for the amazing pile of work done in the final run there ;)
Regarding the reception of the collab, it seems we got a much better reception from those who enjoyed it, but a ridiculous one from those who didnt
"You spelled the title wrong, it's Kirby's." - im not even gonna say anything

anyways, id personnally like to know what people think of my part, hopefully someone will do one of those posts where they review each part...
@ffex/budge: I gotta say i would be happy even with a daily 6th, but I really expected a 3.90 or something, oh well, we got frontpage and except for the occasional trolls, everyone is at least partially enjoying (notice how every review under 5 is of trolling nature?)
@eastbeast: 1. you're right, that does sum up pretty much my emotions during the collab, and im sure that applies to mostly everyone else
2. lol, brawl in the family :D

aaand, to keep with the tradition:

Lol, sorry

Response to: Collaboration "Idea" Lounge. Posted April 6th, 2011 in Collaboration

So I was seeing a clip of fantasia (2000) (if youve never seen it then shame on you) and I was thinking itd be pretty cool do do some kind of animation experience of the kind, in the original Walt Disney divided its team into groups and gave each group a song, they didnt just go ahead divided the song and animated something random that would somehow tie in together, they planned the story together, criticised each others writing, heck, they made storyboards, and that style of production is the same till today, in the real world thats how animators collaborate, files are flying around every second...

So why dont we do that? Choose a short song (In The Hall Of the mountain king is a great song that could work), discuss the story, draw the storyboards, draw the characters, do the main frames, then the inbetweens, then the special effects, then draw/animate the bg, in each phase everyone would have a shot at that part of the process, a sequel would be much more better since we already knew that X was better with special effects, and that Y has a good sense of acting, and therefore draws killer poses, etc.

So We could start by summer vacation, get a few vas, a few artists, and a group of animators, VAs could help write the story, really get involved just like artists/animators, and well yeah, anyone up for it?

Hopefully that wasnt too hard to understand

Aaaand, everyone, to speed things up, add ffex to portal buddies (including you, RLFHOG3)
One animator wont be coed, we are still deciding on who, so everyone add him anyways and well see later ;)

Response to: The Many Kirbies Collab Posted March 25th, 2011 in Collaboration

Its actually a good idea that could get better with expressions done right, I say either that or nothing, lets not wait another week just for another idea just as good...

Response to: The Many Kirbies Collab Posted March 21st, 2011 in Collaboration

OK, we are all done, kinda, so the menu is done, the preloader is done, ffex is finishing the compiling and will be soon doing the credits, except for the fact that VintageBro has rejoined for sure, he is making a part about fire kirby, but he needs ideas, as soon as he has an idea, well give him a one week deadline, but for now, id like to hear everyones idea for a fire kirby skit, come on everyone, were in the final sprint :D

Response to: The Many Kirbies Collab Posted March 17th, 2011 in Collaboration

Ok everyone, we currently have 11 (+2 ee) parts, made by 9 members, this allows us to co-author everyone* + RLFHOG3, they make for 8 minutes of footage without credits, which is the double of the average collab (4 min), and we only need to:
1. Make the preloader
2. Make a logo
3. Make the Credits
4. Add the bios icons

Now, FFEX insists we must get someone else because our collab is too short, so we wanna hear from you, submit it now, or wait for another participant?

*VB said on the 4th he would make a part, he hasnt contacted us since then, ffex will contact him, and if he contacts quickly enough (by this weekend(?)) with enough progress hell stay... anyways, if he does, then 1 member wont get coed...

YUP
I'm sorry scott, but I'm gonna have to kick you out, unless if you come up with a good idea by this weekend and have a finished part by the next one, think you can handle that? No, I thought so...
Dont get me wrong, its just that you've probably delayed this collab 3 times...

Also: Mortalfudge would like a part idea, just think for a few minutes and see what you come up with, if anyone needs a good idea now its him, not scott, I'm not too sure if he already came up with something, but last time I checked he still hadnt settled on something...

Response to: The Many Kirbies Collab Posted March 10th, 2011 in Collaboration

If I ask someone 10 times what is their idea for their part, its because I wanna hear their idea, then stuff like this happens, well, Im on my ipod right now, so I havent seen it, but I trust ffex and if it doesnt meet the requirements then its a no...

In any way, the deadline for scott (if he doesnt quit), mortalfudge (if he stumbles upon a nice idea (btw, fudge, did you get to contact ffex?)), and VB (which is aparently making a part as well) is the 21st, except for mortalfudge, everyone has had plenty of time, and hopefully mf will have an idea for a quick part, plus we have enough parts already as well, I'll send a pm to the three of them and if none answer by sunday, then well go as it is ;)

@Psychofig: I really like the tree idea, would you mind drawing that for me, I still can do it, but Id be thankful if did, preferably in a style that doesnt crashes too much with the kirby there, so something simplistic with thick-ish (#2/3/4 depends on the zooming) outlines...

@everyone: if anyone has a spare idea please post it here so fudge can use it ;)

Come on everyone, we will wrap up this bad boy this month

Response to: The Many Kirbies Collab Posted February 27th, 2011 in Collaboration

@Mortal Fudge (AND SCOTT! this is valid for your as well): Yes, you can join, as long as:
1. You send us a preview by the 5th, along with a drawing of watever kirby you choose taken off your part for the bios, along with this filled:
Flash Exp: ________________________________________

2. You finish it by the 12th
3. Can we see your idea/script?

@ffex: it was just a suggestion...

At 2/25/11 03:20 PM, FlashfireEX wrote: Any ideas for the collab logo? I got nothin'.

*random shit ideas incoming*
1. None? The icon could be like 4 different kirbys on diagonal or vertical stripes and what not, the credits doesnt need one, the preloader as well, neither the menu
2. Maybe you could just have something like any kirby game logo with TMKC instead of kirby and the many kirbies collab as a subtitle
3. Maybe something really simple, with the same tmkc +subtitle idea as above, but just really clean

I think the none is still a good idea...
The preloader could be a little ssb (not ssbb) intro vertical bar thing with a normal kirby (and maybe a simple tmkc), while the intro would be like the sbb intro as well, with all or 4-8 stripe thingys, and its kinda relevant...

3rd: I think ive already said im really busy, and about to get busier till the 5th, so if anyone wants to draw a tree trunk or a space bg, you're free to do so ;) ill happily implement it saturday

Any other minor errors please warn me, ill fix them saturday ;)
Then the saturday after that ill finish up anything else, and will be hopefully 100% done (as long as everyone responds to my pms, *wink**wink*)

Oooh, I was a bit confused because someone said that he never said he would add the bios icons when i told tmm22 u were just gonna rip it and put it in yourself before submitting, but it is all ok now. As for The deadlines, I was really just proposing a goal, anyways, nice job on paint :D
Ill get cracking with the scene select pics, and send pms to those who havent sent me their bios right away ;)

@ffex:
first: I have a crapload of exams coming up (note: I wont be connected at all from the 27th to the 5th), so ill try to finish it all up this weekend, so please, have the bios icons ripped and sent to me at least by sunday, Ill take the remaing sc snapshots, number them, and send the menu to you, either that, or youll wait till the 5th for me to get back to finishing the menu...
secondly: I propose the 27th as a final deadline for scott...
thirdly: I'd like to propose already for you to have the credits, the compiling and the preloader done by the 5th, with a submission on the second week of march... you have a bit more than two weeks, is that ok?
