What would it take to get you to enter?

I dont know... for this one it basically was a time issue; what with the doubles and a vacation and stuff... It wasnt impossible for me to do something but just not really had the time to make something great.
Which brings me to the real point; for contests; I want to make something really good, which is intimidating to me. I honestly dont know what it is; but I do know I have decided to just start joining in everything even if it means ill produce something not that good. I quite like that resolution.

Some of you will probably remember that during november/december of last year I made some great progress in my art; which was basically due to me just painting without making a big deal out of it. Then everybody (including myself) complimented me on the progress I had made (thanks for that), but that kinda made it difficult for me to just draw something for the heck of it...

Anyways; to answer your question: I dont know; but I plan to change it.

One last thing Id like to mention about these contest though: I get irritated when I see poeple turn up for the contests and make awesome submissions; but then they are never seen or heard of in the art forum except in the next contest. I know this is also a good thing, and there is not perfect. I dont necessarily want you to do something about it; but it does make me kinda frustrated.

Hey all, Im back from my second vacation.
This time it was Barcelona; I was supposed to go with TOAS, but he backed out. ;)
Barcelona is a quite beautiful city, but more than that its artistically very inspiring. First of you have Gaudi`s architecture and sculptures; The Sagrada Familia, Casa de Milo and Parc Guell are each on their own worth a visit. The Sagrada and Casa Mila are both very interesting to admire from outside; but for the EU10,- admission fee you get a great look at the inspirations of Gaudis work. The Casa Mila had a more interesting museum department plus a really cool rooftop terrace. If you were too choose, I suggest going into Casa Mila rather than the Sagrada... Impressive as it is; it is still being constructed; which makes large areas unaccessable, and its grandest features are observable from the outside anyways.
Barcelone also hosts a Museum dedicated to Salvador Dali, right in the city centre. The rather smallish museum did not exhibit many of his famous works; nor did it posses any but one of his so distinguishable paintings. It did however host a large collection of sketches and quite some sculptures. The sketches were very interesting in tracing his development through different styles. It really was quite a small museum (especially considering the number of works on display, so if you want to visit a dali museum I suggest you pick the one in figueras which is supposedly not that far from barcalona.
If we`re talking Spanish artists, I cant skip Pablo Picasso. The Museu Picasso in Barca owns a large collection of his earlier works as well as the very impressive "Las Meninas" series. Definitely worth a visit.
All in all it was a very inspiring trip, so Im kinda glad to be back and get arting myself.

Thats whats up with me; whats up with you?

Off course they arent; but your rule would disallow tonikors work... And Tonikor`s kind of work is basically the thing I was hoping to see in that sig thread.

I was worried from the start; but luckily my greatest fears havent come true... the submissions seem to be reasonably okay; but its more design then art...

thats not 500 by 500 is it?

It's a bit plain, I know, and the angel's somewhat contrived. So far anything I've tried to add in (including the angel) only seems to be very artificial. If I could, I'd probably just leave the background blank.

Any opinion on this matter is welcome =)

it looks cool, and I dont think you need to add extra objects to it. I would like you to add some more shades though.

As I said, I liked the art of it, but it would be cool if there was some more cohesion.

Also, katanas do not suck. They are brilliant pieces of weaponry, and would make great melee weapons for guards when push comes to shove.

actually... with guns and shit you wont have the space needed to weild a katana; if your that far away; your (gunwielding) opponent can take a step back and shoot you; A knife would be better suited.

As occluded and Spacecase said before me; no black allowed; It shouldnt be that big of a problem to change that though.
Besides that Id like you to clean up the background (I mean drastically clean up, I know you were probably going for a scetchy look but I dont like it; make it smooth like the portrait itself), and tried add in a few more shades instead of only the three.

Youtube videos of Bob Dylan performing "To make you feel my love" sprouted a stream of comments after adele covered that song. They were all in the lines of "This guy is never gonna make it big with a voice like that, the original from adele is way better"

I tried to find it so I could properly quote it; but by now a youtube search on "make you feel my love bob dylan" yields 4 first pages of non-bob dylan versions of the song.

Never merge layers at all really, there's no point unless it's something that goes together, I.E. Line art merged with more lineart, ect.

I sometimes merge layers to keep an overview. I tend to use a lot of layers so I end up lost ; dont know what should go where and end up making even more layers;
