The only valid point you mentioed was tablet and mouse. The net can go into ethernet (or wireless) and a Mic is only needed occasionaly, at which point you won't need the tablet.

I agree with you about not getting a laptop, but for different reasons.

A rule of thumb is:

A laptop costs twice as much as a desktop, and is half the spec.

I s'pose you're right, but I prefer not having to plug and unplug stuff at the back of the computer every time I need something different...

And I completely agree with you about your rule of thumb...only ever buy a laptop if you have to move about the place, etc.. If you're gonna go leaving on a desk, buy a desktop.

Ironically, (kinda) I'm on a laptop right now, but only because my desktop has a virus, and I have no intention of making animations with this...

Response to: Recommended specs for animating? Posted July 10th, 2008 in Game Development

Do NOT buy a laptop. Simple as that. Think about it: 2 USB ports. And what do you need for animation that involves a USB:

-Internet connection (for NG, etc.)
-Tablet (or mouse, if your broke)
-Microphone(it would help)
-And plenty more, I'm sure

You can say 'You can get a USB thingy that makes four USB slots' but then, by adding more and more things, you're pretty much making it non-portable, which takes the whole point out of it....

And get an XP, I would recommend as well...

Response to: blammed. Posted July 9th, 2008 in Game Development

just go to the obituaries for the day that your flash got blammed on, and you'll see your flash, click on it, and you can read any reviews...

Viewing sent messages Posted July 9th, 2008 in Where is / How to?

Is there any way to see the PMs that you have sent, other than if people reply to you with your message still intact?

If not, there would be no harm in making one...except, maybe, filling up the server....

this used to happen to me, but more recently, i've began to plan out my projects first. you havn't got to use every idea that you include in your script, but hae a basic plot, extend, change some thins during production, and so on...it helps getting you hyped up about doing it too....

but different things work for different people too..

maybe try setting yourself a deadline, by either joining a collab, or by posting a news post that says when your next thing will be out, thus making you have to do it...

Don't. The kids go 'he's telling us to stop so let's do more. It'll be hilarious, like it was on 4chan'.
Seriously. Don't tempt them.

I'm sure if you searched something like wikipedia you could probably find a list of cliches.

spose, thanks, i think i'll do that instead..rather than waste my time on the intended audiences opinion...

Spelling, in my eyes, is important because it makes you look more professional, like you actually care about something.

If Newgrounds' slogan was 'Evrthin. Buy Evr1. ' it wouldn't look good...

I could go for some of that myself right now.

sorry, is this a conversation about KFC or cliches?

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia

The fear of long words. How ironic. And what a cool word!

Cliches and Stereoytypes Posted July 9th, 2008 in General

I know this has been done before, but I think my one is a slight variation...

I'm planning on making a Flash about very common movie cliches and stereotypes, and I have a few, but I'd like a few more. It can be a plot cliche (eg. the hot, blond one is always killed off, and the clever brunette survives) or a character stereotype (eg. old people are either really wise or perverts, or both), or anything you want really...

Make them funny though, and not specific, I dont want 'In Resident Evil, there are always zombies' Y'think? It is, after all, a zombie movie!

So yeah, would appreciate some cliches...

PMing Staff and Mods Posted July 8th, 2008 in General

Many a time have I sent a Private Message (PM) to a member of Newgrounds staff, or one of the mods, and, guess what? They DON'T reply! So I thought I'd help out Newgrounders by starting a thread with my experiences of PMing these people. Feel free to add.

STAFF

Stamper: No
JohnnyUtah:No

MODS

Kirk-Cocaine:Yes

ALSO WORTH NOTING

Egoraptor:Yes

Add more to save contributory Newgrounds members the trouble of waiting for a reply from someone who isnt gonna give one.

NOTE: This IS NOT an attack on staff and mods, merely a pointer for members.

some people just have the knack...

it also helps if you know ho the body functions, in terms of muscle structure and limb movement..be like a renaissance artist, cut up humans!

NOTE: Don't actually cut up people just to get good at Flash, I doubt it even helps.

A lot of patience and tme on your hands contributes too...

i spose if we want this, we'll have to PM either Tom, Wade, Jim, Tim or Rob, the "official" admin. Kirk would prob kill you though. A bit like what Courtney Love did to his homonym!

Surely this would be an over complicated system thats not that important.

I think if this topic was full of people saying I hate collabs, then fine we should continue pressing for something to stop them, but it certainly isnt. Reading through this topic its not a clear cut decision. Until a large majority of people want it, which obviously isnt the case, then nothing need be done.

My opinion stands that collabs are a waste of space though.

as far as i can tell, the general opinion adn this is certainly my opinion, is that collabs are ok, but they are clogging up the flash forum..we dont want to get rid of them, we merely want to relocate them...

Response to: Raise minimum BA for collabs Posted July 8th, 2008 in Game Development

yeah, i'm fairly new to the forums, but a lot of the time, people post a thread, asking a decent question, and within a day, it's gone, due to the popularity of the collabs...

Advantages of Collab section:

1. Easier for Flash forum users to find and anser questions

2. Easier for collab joiners to browse through collabs quickly, and choose which one they want.

3. Easier for mods to browse through collabs and delete illegal ones.

Response to: Exporting as image Posted July 8th, 2008 in Game Development

what i do is take a screenshot (Prnt Scrn) of your image at 100% on flash, paste it on paint, cut out your image, and export it from paint as a bitmap or whatever...

it's more longwinded, but it gives better results
