Response to: how do i make a flash game? Posted August 2nd, 2008 in Where is / How to?

Get Adobe Flash and use it, along with Actionscript to make a flash game!

But let me warn you, it ain't easy...

Response to: Words Effect Posted August 2nd, 2008 in Game Development

Well, you could try making a black square, converting it to an MC, and putting the filter 'Glow' on it. Then place it at the top and bottom of your stage and on a different layer tween the text...

I can't tell from the pic exactly what you want, so I'm not sure if that's the effect you're going for...

Some great flashes there, esp. I Get a Kick out of You and Do you have a Waffle?...Actually, I only say that because I haven't watched the other ones...

Anyway, congrats to the winners...

What's this thread about?

Msw Logo: Any Point? Posted August 2nd, 2008 in Programming

A few years back, my school signed me up for a computer programming course..I was expecting to learn HTML, Javascript or anything useful...but I ended up learning MSW Logo for 2 months..

Is there anything useful that can be done with this programming language, or is it just a good introduction to programming?

Thanks,

Is there any actual theme, or anything to stop it being a bunch of scenes on one background?

Seems a bit boring to me, but good luck all the same...

It's a devious plan. He links to his news post, because he can't advertise his collab in the forum, as his BA is too low....

Response to: Loops in audio Posted August 2nd, 2008 in Where is / How to?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that they're not allowed, cos then there would be a ton of 12-year-olds submitting Garage Band songs.....

Response to: Mighty Boosh fan club! Posted August 1st, 2008 in Clubs & Crews

Boosh V2 is the name of the band, they're not as novelty as I thought apparently....Vince is singing, Howard on bass, Naboo on guitar, and Bollo on drums..there was an article in some magazine (NME maybe..)

Did anyone go to the Mighty Boosh Festival in Kent last month?

If the film rumours are true, I'm not sure if it would work....they haven't got enough of a plot to do anything substantial I think.....

Oh, can I join the group?

YET ANOTHER RULE

Really sorry about these rules...but here goes:

Break apart all your fonts. Just press Ctrl + B twice. This is both for me and for other users. Not everybody has TekekutuAL( or whatever it's called) and all my fonts that I install uninstall themselves when the computer is turned off, so if you break apart the fonts, the fonts aren't lost....

lmao, I think it might be 5th link, cos that's a CS3 file again....

Don't worry, it's good for the popularity of the collab...

OK, cool, could you maybe make it last a bit longer at the end, just so people can register the intro....

It says unexpected file format...are you using CS3? If so, go to Publish settings and change the Flash Player to Flash Player 8 ( I think that that should work..)

if you don't want to spend money on PhotoShop, you can get a free program called GIMP. It's like PhotoShop but a bit worse...

I like the shading on the monster in this new one...

QUITE IMPORTANT NEW RULE

Sorry I keep on making new rules, but the circumstances call for it.

- Put your intro in a Movie Clip inside the fla. It's the only way the sound doesn't go out of sync...Call the MC 'yourname' intro'number', so my first intro would be 'fish1892 intro1', and my second 'fish1892 intro2' etc.

Thanks,

Response to: Out-of-Sync sound Posted August 1st, 2008 in Game Development

Thanks for all the help, guys, I figured it out (even though i can't figure out why it worked). All I did was put each scene in a Movie Clip first....kinda confusing...

Response to: A couple of minutes in MSPaint... Posted August 1st, 2008 in Art

Not the worst thing I have seen done in MSPaint, but that's not saying much..maybe try getting a good drawing program like Photoshop of Gimp...

Response to: The Newgrounds Intro Collab Posted August 1st, 2008 in Game Development

We may have a major setback..ever since I changed the FPS to 24, the sound in the flash has gone really weird...I'm very confused, but I'll try it again when the computer gets restarted, and hopefully that will make a difference...

Did you check that publish settings are the same? Are you sure the different flash is also 24 fps?

Everything is the exact same, except for the original one has a menu and preloader, but would that make any difference?

Sorry it took me a while to respond, but you know there's that 4 posts on the same thread in 30 mins rule...

I tried stream and event, and there was no difference, except that event was worse...
But the weird thing that the exact same frames work on a different fla...

Sorry I'm very bitter and twisted about collabs, you handled my childishness it very well though and for that you earn respect :)

I'm not one for collabs either, but since I recently got a BA of 3.5, I just couldn't resist making one....
Thanks for the respect. You get some of mine for apologising..

Response to: Out-of-Sync sound Posted August 1st, 2008 in Game Development

What? I was just giving my situation. If I hadn't said that, you wouldn't have had a problem with me posting my sound problem in the forum...I'm confused now....

Response to: Out-of-Sync sound Posted August 1st, 2008 in Game Development

It's got nothing to do with the collab though..it wasn't the collab's fault...

Out-of-Sync sound Posted August 1st, 2008 in Game Development

I'm working on a new piece for The Newgrounds Intro Collab. I usually work at 12 fps (low, I know) but due to popular demand, the FPS on the collab has been raised to 24...

As I had already made a piece, I tried to adjust that to the new FPS, but the sound, which had previously worked fine, is now out of sync. It worked when I hit enter on the timeline, but if I tried to Publish Preview it, the sound went ahead of the animation.

Thinking that it was just messed up because I had changed the FPS, and then altered the frames, I made a whole new part on a different scene, but the same problem occurred. I then copied the frames into a different fla, and the sounds worked perfectly.

What is wrong with my original file?

Thanks,
~fish1892

Response to: Peice By Peice Fbf Flash? Posted August 1st, 2008 in Game Development

Well, the first method I mentioned, where I used many layers, I used when I did a quite bad stickman Flash...

The second method, with the symbols, I use for normal cartoon-like characters...I have no idea of how to animate anime, though...

I doubt it, tbh....

Response to: Peice By Peice Fbf Flash? Posted August 1st, 2008 in Game Development

I have previously done a technique similar to that, except I made all the layers at once...but that's a bit painstaking, I now prefer to just draw each part of the body separately, covert each one to a symbol, and then have them all in one layer....

CLOCK JOKE!

But yeah, anyway, I have no problem with them existing (by them, I'm referring to all the -ocks) but I don't like the Clock and Lock Days....They're mostly all really bad submissions that get good scores, it's annoying..
