Well congradulations to MaestroRage, I was very happy to see The Musician Of 2007 in Tom's post. It had seemed earlier in the mounth that the audio portal had just gotten neglected, so this comes as a nice supprise. I suppose Maestro's been at it for a long time and really does deserve this award.

Anyone agree?

I tend to to prefear the short rang stelth kill wepons like a shootgun myself, although I do like sniping too. As for rather or not a certain wepon takes skill to use, I think that depends mostly on the game.

Realisticly a sniper whould whould be the most difficult wepon to use, if you ever get a chance to talk too a military sharp shoot they'll tell that it takes alot of extra training, beyond basic, but I think games offten countact the difficulty of sniping by giving the character you play a perfectly steady hand. Just thought I throw that in there.

I agree with New-Milkman, Reaper whould probably be your best bet. It's a very powerful program, and what it lacks in functionality, it more than makes up for in versitility. Combine that with Audacity (which is Free-OpenSource-Software) for editing and you got a pretty good set of composing tools at your disposal.

So did we ever get a reason as to why the audio tank award got the shaft? I mean Tom even posted on this thread but now it seems the tank awards have been narrowed down to best movie and best game, and the audio portal got the shaft, agein. Anyone know what happened?

Posted: 05/14/08 01:08 AM

Forum: Audio

Well the thing is that Adobe Audition costs alot of money, especialy for if your really just recording and doing basic editing ,you might just want to try Audacity, it will certainly save you $350. Adobe Audition is a very powerfull editor and studio recording program but I think it's kinda of overkill for what you trying to do. Audacity has good recording and editing tools you'll need for a flash movie. You might as well give it a shot anyways worst case you don't like it, and you can actualy looking into paying for an editor.

Not to drag this thread out but you seem to have made the same points I did, so I'm not sure what it is exactly that you disagree with. Like I said Logic does have some loops and midi compatibility, but your really wasting your money if you get it just for that. Also It's important to look at the larger scope of things. Their are alot more programs out their than just, FL, logic, and Cubas, each have their their own perks and are good for certain things and if you think that one of them is flat out better another than you probably missed my unssarlily draged out point.

Topic: Fruity Loops or Logic Studio?

Posted: 04/23/08 07:23 PM

Forum: Audio

Please keep in mind that logic is primarily an audio editor while FL is primarily a senquecer. Also Logic Pro is not currently the indestry standard pro tools is. Not to say that it's not a professional program, but if you don't have the proper hardware to record with than you may be better off with FL.

Not to say that FL is the only sequencer avalible (although it is the easiest to use); Reason, ACID Pro (Bit more geared toward recording/editing), and Cakewalk Kinetic, are some other very powerful sequencers. Sequencers are good if you don't know how to play an instrament or have the hardware to record since you can do everything on the computer.

Logic Pro is an editor, although it does have some loops and midi compatibility, your really wasting your money if you get it just for that. It's really ment for people who record their music and want to editing on what they've recorded. That said it has some very powerful tools for this, but agein is not the only program for it. Other good ones include: Cakewalk Sonar, Adobe Audition, and Pro Tool (current industry standard), and on reflection ACID Pro probably fits more into this catagory.

I'm thinking either an Avenged Sevenfold, As I Lay Dying, or Killswitch Engage song.
Opinions?

I am happy with the way the cover came out, however I don't think I can work on another one. Been having a rough time lately what with my brother dying, yeah really not a good time for me. I glad the deadly sinners one came out good and good luck to the rest of you guys.

No not really, They have a free version called ACID Express, it's pretty crapy though, ACID studio costs $55 (It's pretty much a stripped down version of ACID Pro), and ACID Pro costs $300, (well worth I'd say, and you can get a student version for cheaper)

At 3/18/08 09:34 AM, Jimbobsthebest wrote: I've recently been 0 bombed on a couple of tracks and if i'm honest it doesn't really bother me that much. On the other hand, it would be nice to get a fair representation of what voters actually think of my songs.

Well that is what reviews or for, truth be told, your reviews are a much more accurate representation of how good your song is, not to mention all the valuable feedback you get.

I like the way that newgrounds allows for everyone to have an opinion and vote on the material submitted here and know that some people do enjoy voting 0 (fair enough really). Although I was thinking, do you think the voting system would be fairer if more votes were allocated in accordance with newgrounds level? For example, level 1 only allowed you to vote on 1 thing a day and level 2 allowed you to vote 2.

That pretty much what voting power does and to be truthful I don't think it helps the system very much since voting power and level are aquired on the flash portal and people with a high level/voting power, may have no idea what a quality audio submission is, especialy if they compair it to professional level music. Plus alot of zero bombers are pretty high level, and thats why their votes are such a problem, I've always had a suspision that the majority of these zero bombers are just people who vote with a bias to genre, like I don't like hip hop so I'm giving this song a zero or metal isn't real music you get a zero, but thats a different story.

Do you think that this would prevent 0 bombing, lessen it slightly or not have any effect at all? Do you think that it would deter people from coming here? Or do you simply think that it is a ridiculous idea.

As I said before I really don't think that Idea whould help, and as Dark Side said, Audio evolution thread.

I personally prefer reviews to overall score and so being 0 bombed doesn't really affect me, but it is a shame that some of the better songs submitted here get a couple of 0 votes which make them less accessible to be hear and enjoyed.

What do you think?

Many thanks.

Depends on what type of efect your going for. A Phaser, Flanger, or Wah-Wah effect can certainly be automated. If the pitch shift tool itself is not actualy automatable (since it goes by key rather just frequency), If you want to change the pitch in two seperate parts of a track you can just draw them as two seperate clips using the draw tool and do a pitch shift on that particular clip while leaving the others as is (right click on the clip -> pitch shift).

Your best bet is too record them yourself, If you don't have the instraments though, their are plenty of places to download clips. Looperman.com has a ton of free ones, just download the ones you want and browse to them in the explorewindow in ACID. You could also buy some good ones on ACID Planet, but be forwarned, songs made entirly with loops are bland and unorigenal.

Tell me, how many of you actually joined because your music was protected by this license? How many of you think about it when you submit a song? Everytime you post a song, do you think "Hey, thank goodness this is protected by the non-commercial license!" or are you more interested in hearing what the users have to say about it? I'm sure most of you will go with the latter. A very small portion of the users actually care about the license, and the majority are only saying they care because this just happened.

The biggest problem with this change is that it effectively allows anyone to use your music for free. So if you had a song I wanted to publish on an album or perhaps release as a demo or promo track like TurmionKatilot does, you can't really can't do that. It's great way to discourage anyone from putting effort into their work. There is also of course the legal issue that many of us submitted our songs under a non-commercial licence, and now that licence has been changed without our consent.

Plainly put if some-one is using a song in a flash their making money off of, than that song has the potential to make money. Second I'm not sure how many artist showcase/promote their songs only on NG, but this new type of licencing prevents them for claiming royalties anywhere else as well since it would undermine any other licence that they had.

Music is a pretty big part of movies and games, and think if a flash artist wants good music they should be willing to split any royalties as well. If not than they can go ahead and throw together some crappy midi track on their own.

Thats the kinda of attitude that will get rid of all the good music on the audio protal. Like I said before why whould anyone post anything that they could make money off of on site that doesn't let them make any money off their music. It takes away any incentive to post good music.

At 3/15/08 08:43 PM, New-Milkman wrote: There's a good chance that Flash artists won't want to pay for their soundtracks, because if they were to win anything, they would have to pay the audio artist some of the money. (And with first prize being $3000 USD, it might be a bit hard to split.)

The submission agreement makes NG exempt from the non-comercial part of the licence so if some-one is awarded money from NG for a flash that uses music from the Audio portal, the audio artist has no right to it, even with the old lisencing.
