I agree. I prefer taking showers over baths.
However, after a real cold day and when I hurt all over from working hard at my job, soaking in a hot-as-you-can-stand-it bath is very relaxing.

What happened on 9/11? Ask that question of any American, and you're sure to get an emotional, passionate response. People haven't forgotten 9/11. We're reminded of it everytime we see the sunrise over the NYC skyline, look at the pentagon, fly on an airplane, etc. Americans still remember clearly and distinctly the events that occured that fateful day.
But we've moved on. As a nation, we can't dwell on what's happened on 9/11 and hide in fear or mope, that's what the terrorists want. And though we can sit around and dwell on that day, it won't change the fact that it happened nor will it bring back the lives that were lost. Time heals all wounds, and it's been the case here.
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Probably the two worst baseball teams that ever played played each other on July 4, 1926. The game was between the San Luista team and the Piedras Negras Internationals. The game was called after six innings on account of darkness.
San Luista won, 129-119.
There were a total of 97 walks in the game.
The Internationals' shortstop made 24 errors in the third inning.

I didn't say it was going to happen, or that it stands a snowball's chance in hell of happening. But it still doesn't change the fact that it would be better to have that system in place. If you're going to base your criteria about what is the "best system" solely on what is likely to be used in America, then this thread is pointless, because we are too entrenched in a two party system now to dig out.
There's always going to be a group of people who want to get their way, so instead of having people of simular ideaologies taking votes from each other, they decide the best way to go is to have only one of them run, then they put all their money and resources behind that one person.
Of course there will be, because in politics you have to make comprimises to benefit yourself. Sure, people will tend to group together behind stronger candidates, overlooking disagreements on some small issues to help elect one that shares one's views on large issues. A congressional race might be between 4 or 5 strong candidates. Either way, it's much better than having to pidgeonhole or clothespin vote between the two parties now or cast a vote in futility for a third party candidate that doesn't stand a chance.
At 8/2/05 11:39 PM, airraid81 wrote: Personally, I feel that 2-party systems are the best way to go, because there isn't really many alternatives. You need a limited number of parties to raise money, and if you had individuals with no parties, then it would be much harder to get enough money to run.
But of course, as with everything, there are problems. With 2-party systems, you basically get 2 people who are kind of extreme. The more moderate canidates get knocked out in the primaries.
The best party system is a no party system, where representatives are elected to office based on the views they hold rather than what group of spinners and cronies they're in cahoots in. If the people actually gave a shit about politics, they could elect the people that would serve their views and beliefs the best, rather than just pigeonholing themselves in an alignment with a party because of something they heard from a talking head on TV or radio.

Cool! Put that away for safe keeping. I've got my baseball, signed by Denny McLain, the last pitcher in the majors to get 30 wins in a season. Granted, it'd be even better if he didn't get tossed out of baseball for bookmaking and spent time in jail. Oh well.

Harley isn't that unusual, or redneckish. While it was a little common decades ago, it's still a respectable name now. Now if you have any cousin Cletus or Jim Bob or Bobby Jo, or something like that, then you might have a case.

Sure. He created television, too.
Seriously, it can be non-partisan and entertaining--just keep Gore out of production and editing--let television experts do what they do best and choose and create programs, and Gore can do what he does best, namely, bore the snot out of people and summon fire spirits.

I'd rather put up with loud urban rap and fireworks than Rosie O'Donnell's ugly face and irritating voice any day of the week. She's just a couple steps away from being another Roseanne Barr.
The horror.

Yeah. A few weeks after I got to level 10 I stop depositing for a couple of months. I've picked it back up, and deposit almost every day now.
One way to limit illegal immigration, and probably the easiest is to prohibit the transferring of currency (via services like Western Union) to other countries unless you can show proof of citizenship or legal residency. Most illegal immigrants come over here to make money, which they send back to family in Mexico. While I don't have the exact figures (nor do I feel like looking for them now) such money transfers is one of the largest forms of income in Mexico, behind oil and a couple of other income sources.
Geocaching, perhaps?
It's sounds cool. I used to be into orientation games back in middle school, this sounds similiar, only cooler.

To be honest with you, I don't think the effect Wal*Mart has on mom and pops is near what it is touted to be. Sure, a Wal*Mart going up across the street is going to have some negative affect on sales at other businesses. However, creating and successfully operating a small business is quite risky--even without new competition to deal with. I've seen tons of small businesses come into and go out of business--for reasons other than new competition. There's entire strip malls on the west side of my hometown that have been abandon, their stores closed. There's no big box stores being opened near there to take business away.
You want to blame something for the decline of mom and pops?
1] Location. As towns grow larger, smaller shops in a city center on low-capacity city streets near a town square or central block are less able to handle the commerce needs of the growing population. Larger stores in larger areas on larger capacity roads on the outskirts of town are, so they do. Also, any stores located on a route that gets bypassed around town are going to suffer as well.
2] Overspecialization/ low demand. I've seen countless Curves, Herbalife, etc. stores go out of business. Not because of big box stores, because they are based solely on selling one particular product that has a limited clientel. You don't run a convenience store just selling gum, you have to add other similar products and cater to more people to be successful.
Of course, mom and pops have evolved, too. What was a local streetcorner store is now your convenience station. What was once a local diner is now a Waffle House.
It's still the Bill and Louise, the Tom and Joanne running the places, it's just they've took away the old wood counters and floors and modernized. Remember, most of these fast food places, gas stations, restaurants, etc...they're mom and pops! They're franchises. Like Wal*Mart, which uses familiarity to keep and maintain a customer base, so do the mom's and pop's--they use a franchised brand to create familiarity with potential customers. You know what to expect from a 7-11, a McDonalds, a Waffle House, etc.

If the democrats are looking towards the center on issues, I don't see how they're looking at Hillary.
The sad part about it, is that she'll get the nomination and the presendency solely on the fact that she's a woman. Sure, she'll receive the liberal vote, but she's destined to get a lot of votes from women who wouldn't normally vote for a Democratic candidate, but will this time just solely because she is a woman.
Also, is Kerry actually a potential candidate in '08 as well? If so, why? If he can't beat a a low-rated incumbent who started a long, unnecessary war, during the middle of a recession, how do they think he'll win now that the economy is starting to pick back up again?
Max, great topic. If all of our nation's youth were as politically aware as you are, this nation would be in much better shape than it is currently.

Wow, you act like they're providing bad customer service when they're just abiding by standard rules and regulations. I hate people like you that do that--I've had people call me all sorts of names because I won't sell them cigarettes or beer without an ID.
Wait until you get older, little boy. Or if you have to break the rules, get some random older guy and have him buy a ticket for you.

I wasn't actually worried either, mind you, especially after the person who was supposed to open with me Friday showed up 3 1/2 hours late without any consequences. We're so short of help at Sam's because the managers are too cheap to hire anybody, that people just show up whenever they want, because they can't afford to fire anybody.
Everybody who works in the club took an opinion poll last month on our management staff, and the results came back: they were ranked 4th lowest out of all the Wal*marts and Sams in the world.
I would pay $29.99 a year.
However, if I did pay for the membership, I would expect a larger admin presence, and a quicker response to issues and problems.
And maybe a couple of free stickers. =P
I'm not trying to be rude or arrogant here, skunk, but what's the solution?
Laissez-faire may have created this problem--and while you're correct that the consumers are ultimately the victim, how are you going to convince them of that? We're talking about people that will drive extra miles to save a penny a gallon on gas. Even if we can get officials to put regulations in place on Wal*Mart and other big box stores--how are you going to convince people that, while it may be more expensive in the short run, it will be better for the economy in the long run?
And what about big box wholesalers such as Sam's Club and Costco? Not only do you have private individuals purchasing goods from these stores taking away potential business of other stores, but small independent businesses as well. Similiar regulations placed on these would not only raise expenses for private individuals, like they do for Wal*Mart, but also adding expenses to small businesses as well--causing them to raise prices, which would offset the benefits of regulating Wal*Mart in the first place.

I've given up debating with 'TheReveiwer' [sic]. He needs to have a surgeon general's warning on him--trying to have a conversation with this individual may lead to brain cancer, or something of the sort. Logic is lost on him.
In other news, NG is going to get me in trouble. I lost track of time--easy to do here--and around 1:20 realized I was scheduled to be at work at 1:30.
I hit the time clock a couple seconds before it turned to 1:31.
I still don't know how in the hell I got my clothes on, drove four miles in afternoon traffic, and ran from a distant parking space to the time clock 100 yards away in less than 10 minutes total.

No. There are so many celebrities without assassin games, so many tragedies without Bastard movies, so many types of relationships to have simulations of, that we will never run out of material.
Moreover, unlike Hollywood, who can't do anything with current events except make documentaries of it, we will always have the latest escapades of politicians, celebrities, and everything else in the world to make fun of.
Wal*Mart doesn't respect private property rights, as the case in Alabaster, Alabama, among others, shows.
