The only cartoons on those that do not feature my voice are Pizza Parlour, and Slice of Life.
In some cartoons note that my voice may be sped up or slowed down to resemble either
children, women, monster's or deep voiced narrator's such as in Story but in all those intances
it is in fact me, even the girls in The Children and Two Guys Episode 2.

I have one such background I did, and its a bit better than a 'really quick job', if you change your mind from the 'nevermind'. RazaSogekihei@yahoo.ca

As far as I know its still just convert to movie clip and then use the filters. I think people are just putting more time into their polishing.

First you need a wav recorder, like Soundforge (or whatever you have will do), then you need a good MIC with no background noise. Or any MIC you have in most cases here lol.

Make sure your MIC is turned on if it has a switch and that it is also at a desirable level/not on mute in your sounds toolbar on the taskbar.

Record your soundtrack in clips: usually conversationally. So say character A says: Let's go to the park Eddy -- you record that and save it. Then character B say's: Sure thing Bub -- you record that and save it. You get the point.

After you have yoru entire soundtrack you can bleed them all into one wav if you are a sound producer (like me) and you can pan the voices and do the levels and mixing etc.. as you wish but this step is usually skipped as most people here on newgrounds are not sound people.

Once saved (or mastered) you must put them in your cartoon, I suggest streaming. You import the sound to stage, create a layer for your stream, and then in properties for your keyframe where it starts you select the sound, and make it 'streaming'. Then, you can animate the mouths to sync up with the soundtrack. This is the easiest method - to record the soundtrack FIRST then sync the lips, but if you already have the lips moving the process is a bit different:

First you should render your movie. Then, click record on your wave and well, talk away! It will probably take you a few tries, you may have record one wav for character A and another for character B, etc.. then sync them up in the timeline.

When you go to render your final flash, make sure the sound is set to render in STEREO this is a mistake EVERYONE makes on newgrounds because the default is MONO and mono sounds like SHIT.

Goodluck!

Nope. lol Not unless you are going to be more specific with what you want to improve on. You can send me a flash by you if you like and I'll tell you what elements are missing to make it a 'good' flash. But other than that I can't help you.

<razasogekihei@yahoo.ca> if you want to send me your flash. *.swf please. I hereby accept that I will not copy or distribute or etc.. your flash, under full penalty of law. You get the idea.

If you have done the tutorials then I suggest you start making flash to learn how to make good flash. Practice! People neglect this aspect and it is the most important. Experience will teach you way more than a tutorial. Another thing you can do is request a project file from an animator who you deem as 'good' to see how they made their cartoon. That can teach you loads of stuff too. :) Good luck!

Topic: Backgorunds!

Posted: 05/14/06 02:46 PM

Forum: Flash

First plan what elements of your background are in the furthest um, background. I'm going to assume you are discluding foreground (objects that appear on top of the character's).

For example: The sky. Color the stage with the color that will consume most of your backgrounds area, then add the elements (objects) in order of background to forground. You can do this with layers or you can just draw on top of what is already there. But plan it out a bit before you go ahead and do it. Think about what should be drawn first and what must come over top of it. etc..

Right, the sky! Say you make a box of blue for the sky, then you draw some background clouds, then you draw some clouds on top of those clouds. You fill the sky with stars, and then you draw the moon. Now you have a background/background!

Say there are some hills that are closer to the viewer than the sky, you draw your hills over top of the bottom half of the sky, and then the hills that are closer to the viewer, you draw on top of those etc... perspective and foreshortening are very important in background drawing.

Anyways, once you have a nice rough of a background, you can go in and color it up. Once color with a single (mono) color for each object as you design it, you can go back and add shading colors. In flash this is particularly easy because you can use the eye-dropper to select the color, then when you open the fill editor you can edit the color to have less or more black or white mixed into it.

Other things you can do is to blur the background and leave the foreground sharp, this creates a better contrast between the two--a better illusion of depth.

For the most part, it just takes practice. There is only so much you can read before reading is useless. The most practical thing you can do is practice your heart out and discover what works for you (on your own.) Good luck!

Nah, just sour mood. Finals for college due today. Boo.

( I said Wacom because it is the only one I know. I draw with a mouse too! :) You knew I meant a tablet so it obviously didn't matter what brand I said.. you silly bastard! LOL)
You were kind of right. Wacom is the company that makes tablets. They make a line called graphire. It's their low end, cheapy tablet though. Their "Intuis"(sp?) tablet is very nice though.

Oh, well thanks! I appreciate the indirect apology lol (really I do! ) Most here would just lash back. I know what the finals are like, I just had mine 2 weeks ago. Horribly hectic. Our staff went on strike a few weeks before-hand so the teachers all piled everything into the last 2 weeks! Essays galore.

A) Luis, who is an amazing animator doesn't even use a drawing tablet. All mouse drawn.

B) Why would anyone who is serious about a tablet use a graphire? Graphire is the bottom of the line garbage.

I'm not going to say anything encouraging. That cartoon sucked. Try harder.

See? Childish bastard right here. But you can take his crap with a grain of salt - he said your flashed sucked, and he was right, and when he said try harder, it was in effect saying the same as me, you just need to spend more time. Don't give up! ( I said Wacom because it is the only one I know. I draw with a mouse too! :) You knew I meant a tablet so it obviously didn't matter what brand I said.. you silly bastard! LOL)

Don't let it get you down Wave, Newgrounds is comprised of children mostly, I wouldn't be surprised if you were only 14 - 15 yourself. Children are critical, but then again, so are audiences, especially if a work doesn't have a popular template or isn't up to par with what they've usually seen.
I recommend that you either:
A) Keep trying AND/OR
B) Just put some more time into your flash, polish it up, and then, if I am not mistaken I think that you can resubmit it. But take your time! Anything done well takes a buttload of time! :) The difference between Adam Philips and Other animators with good talent is that A) He spends more time then they do on his work, or has honing his skills and
B) He probably has a wacom graphire. lol
Great skills will take you somewhere, time will take you WAY farther, and Equipment ALWAYS helps alot, but if you are REALLY a hard worker, you can get amazing results with shit equipment.

I would suggest that if you want to make it then ignore what others will say and make it. Everyone has to start somewhere and so what if some dude critisizes your artwork? Fuck em. On the other hand, if you are asking whether or not you should continue because you really don't feel up to doing it, and you want some kind of excuse.. well then just don't do it! Either way sounds like you have some self-confidence issues. Don't let it get you down just do what you will and have faith in yourself. :)

In reply to the guy before you: I'd possibly help you with your game, but I was looking more for a cartoon. You can email me at the above address and we can talk about it. Sorry for double posting, there is no edit that I can see here.

You can contact me just like you did, by asking :) Do you have a public email? You can email me at RazaSogekihei@yahoo.ca and from there I will give you my private email, or you can give me your public email in this post and then I'll email it and we can exchange private email addresses. :)

If the artwork in my animations do not look up to par with your project (anyone) but you still liked my style, you can request something more up to date from me - I have an animation I am currently working on, as well as some backgrounds and characters laying around. But I will not send it unless you are serious and looking for an artist to help you out with an interesting (hopefully funny but does not have to be) animation, as outlined in my first post.

Yes, I'm sorry, I thought that my name would link you guys to my artist page:

Here is my first animation, or one of them if its not the one I think it is; I can do much better than any of these now but it will link you to my artist page and from there you can see my work. The work with the best backgrounds is "Story". Enjoy!

Hey, I'm a character artist/background artist with a little animation experience--you can check out my stuff by clicking my name, I think! And I've been in the mood to draw! So if you need one, you can contact me :)

These are my conditions:

A) You must promise that I don't have to animate anything beyond like.. blinking. Because I hate animating. Unless you are a competant animator - like Marc M. and you want to do a collab, I'd probably consider doing that.

B) I'd like to see your work because I only want to work with someone who can make a full cartoon, and one that is interesting. (Note that: If I just have to work on a character or two, or a few backgrounds, I can do them much better than my own flash animations. lol Because it is less responsibility and I'm all about that. )

C) I prefer to work on animations with someone who um, loves animations! Humor seems to be my forte, or strange and creepy. Something original is 1,000X better than something that is not.

Last note: You should really check out my animations before you decide to work with me, so you can get a feel for whether or not you would like my stuff in your animation in the first place!

Thanks everyone,

IEatBabies.
