Here is some more random stuff, some from projects, some from mornign sketches, etc
Yes, what gum said, also, what program are you using? Some programs have better tracking than others, and if it is vector, obviously you can adjust line smoothing. I assume you're talking photoshop, in that case, faster hand movments, try drawing with your entire arm and not from your wrist. Also, work really big, like three times you projected size, then shrink the image down, that will cause the illussion of smoothing as the program scales your art.

I'd still like there to be an Art Forum game type of project at some point, and a SHMUP seems like the ideal kind of game for that (limited animation lots of static images, etc.), but the SHMUP Project got kind of unwieldy, several aspects got stalled and the whole thing died out. =[My biggest issue with the SHMUP was how many people signed up for it, but then completely didn't show up and offer anything. Seriously, if you're gonna take the time to sign-up for a project this big, don't just fucking walk away after the teams have been made.
I totally agree. I understand how and why it happens, but I also understand why it shouldn't In the heat of the moment, you're inspired, worked up, feel like you can take on the world. You'll sign up for anything when you're jazzed. But then later you don't feel like it, you're run down, life is hectic, and so on. That is when you should work the hardest. I always work on the shit I sign up for, even if I don't feel like it. I'm of the rare breed I suppose, that thinks it's better to produce medium quality work, than not produce anything at all.
After a while, you train yourself to get shit done, whether you 'feel like it' or not. Life's full of heroic failures, but it isn't even heroic if you don't even try to do what you say you're going to. =\
Great work guys! Haha, my faovrites are pickletoez and joe's. A lot of really funny ones too. Here is mine.
This thread is currently happening.

These are really great, I'm glad to see you're trying to pay attention to value over color/hue. That is good, a lot of people ignore that and it bites them in the butt. (I'm talking about me!) Keep up the hard work! Paint paint paint! Remember, paint shadow and light first, it's the single most important thing when rendering something you expect the viewer's brain to believe. ^5 !!

That game is evil man, I had to delete it from my computer because I was playing it too much. I can't explain it, those little blocks just call to me. It's like legos, but with creepers.
Also, really glad to see so many entries for this Cow.

I can count the number of actual blue arctic animals on one hand and still have all my fingers available. Knock is right.

You are from Germany, right!? If you aren't, I feel really stupid right now. Jus' saying.
Haha, no I'mnot form Germany =P I dated a german girl once though, she had a great voice/accent and pretty hair. That is about it for me and my german experiences. :D
Rock on Ash! Totally digging the freezing water look. Makes me think of antartic sea animals, those crazy fuckers. This thing totally looks like it could take a dip just fine, after it's done constricting and eating a couple of eskimos.
Here is mine, the Blue-Balled Burny
This guy sneaks around the ourskirts of small german towns and jackhammers any snowmen (or women) the the villagers happen to build and leave unguarded. The mornings are often cold in more ways than just the temperature when people see the remains of their broken and violated snow sculptures.
Call'm him done, thanks for looking. Stay cool guys.
photoshop crashed, so i lost all but this screengrab, mostly just color data lost though, saved the values
Getting about ready to call'm quits, gonna pour on some color then call it done
Going to post some progress shots from start to finish for a little one night drawing I've been planning, some friends and I are having a draw off. We've go tto draw a brute, wearing bunny ears. Here is some step by step, hope you guys dig.
Thanks for not giving up and posting again. You have some pretty awesome art, keep it up. I also see you're from the mojave desert, I spent some tie out there when I was younger. I miss it sometimes but it was always dry and hot(i.e. desert), don't miss that so much. But it was pretty, I liked he joshua trees. =P
Keep up the great art! I look forward to seeing more. ^_^
Thanks again guys, really means a lot to me. ^_^ Also, Joe blew me away with his version of my elf girl, I like it better than my own ten times. I think I'll try to repaint her in the not-too-distant future.
Haha, shucks, thanks guys =P I'm an adult this year too! :D
Read what Luxembourg said.
You need to learn to pick your colors and to lay down shadows correctly. This is stuff you gotta train your brain to do, and it's a pain in the ass. You need to, sigh, you need to paint from photos, and paint from life. Do it every day, you know what art school is? It's bullshit. All they do is make your work everyday, on something you should be doing yourself. So do it every day, it's boring, it blows, I know, and at the end of the year you'll be ten times better. 300 paintings later. I promise you.

On each piece there's about a max of 5 people "reviewing". Most of these reviews are "lol princess peach is hot" or some shit like that. These people will vote your piece up (when it's sexy or videogame-related) or down (when it's disturbing), all this ignoring the work that went into it. Not only can a numeric rating never be an honest way to rate your artwork, it also is completely useless towards the artist who made it.
Dude, I understand what you're saying, and how you feel. But the system is set up in this way because it at least attempts to work, in this way. No system is perfect, because people are not perfect. Hell, good work will always have people trash it because they are jealous, or don't like it, and the number system allows them to do this, but GENERALLY you're number rating should give you some good info, quickly. If it is 4 or better, people like it, if it is 3, they didn't hate it, if it is less than three, it most be forgettable I need to do a better job.
How about some sort of comment/review system? Easier to sort out the people who truly wish and care to review your work. Front-page is picked out by mods anyway and we don't NEED a rating system to see who's work is best, we (should) make art for ourselves, not to fulfil our need for attention or acceptance.
Almost every artist on the planet is seeking acceptance, no matter what they say. We may try to tell ourselves otherwise, but if you show your work to another human being, you're looking for acceptance. There is nothing wrong with that. That's art. Expression, story telling, conveying feeling and emotion. Transferring information from our mind, to the minds of others. Writers do the same thing. The only artists who don't want acceptance I guess, are the ones we never see.
tl;dr Numeric ratings suck hamster dong.
Again, I understand how you feel, but fact is, this probably ain't gonna change. Learn to tell the good advice from the bad, get used to never getting advice and being ignored, because that is being an artist. From the beginning of time artists have dealt with this, we were slaves to the egyptians and romans, peasants to the english, and so on. It sucks. lol. Let it make you stronger, make your work mean more. Art isn't fair, look at the front page of DA and see what is popular.

this is practice and doodling on photoshop. im still warming up to it. never been all that big on digital art but im gonna see this through to get it over with and be able to use the bloody program.
i would really like feedback.
enjoy
I agree with cloud on this, such thin lines need to be bold to be seen. If you want to create art and keep it in that light color, try making fewer stroke, and make them wider. Do some samples and compare, wider strokes will read better, even if they're in a lighter color, thinner strokes in too light of a color create too much 'work' for the eye and it makes us want to look away or move on. The Human eye is lazy. Good work, cool style, keep up the hard work!
