Yeah, looking back I guess I just went ahead and made that up. Heh, alright then. :P Thanks!
Great stuff guys, I'm kinda bummed I choose to try a platformer too since everyone else has. For my platforming has always been one of the most difficult things to code though. There is a lot smaller margin of error in the controls and 'feel' of the game.

You have a pretty slick style, look forward to seeing your game when you find a partner!

If anyone is interested, here is about 10 hours of work. Just trying to learn the tools, still haven't even touched the event editors and stuff.
Seems like a pretty neat piece of software, especially since you can edit as3 code after the fact. I've only been playing with it for a day and here is a screenshot of a sidescroller I'm been noodling with. Just using their built in features of course, I haven't gotten into the scripting tools yet, they look straight forward enough but will obviously take some time to learn and use correctly. Look forward to seeing what people make.

Yeah I was gong to say, maybe just through some rim lighting or halos on the upper parts of the blocks for the thumbnail. Just my 2 cents. Rock on!

hahaha yeah dude, I totally agree. I just didn't want to say anything for fear of someone thinking I'm whining or complaining or whatever. I've worked with a LOT of people over the past 10 years, and in my experience 99% of them have no clue what I have to go through to get shit done. That's fine, but I have zero tolerance for attitude and such anymore. Which is why I mostly work alone now. Also 90% of the time when a client hires you, truth is, they have no fucking clue what they want, or think they want. This applies to project leads, programmers, even lead artists sometimes and it's a damn mess and work gets wasted. I spend just as much time figuring out what someone wants, than I do actually painting it for them.
Anyhoo, good stuff, rock on, have fun everyone!

How long have you guys used your online handles? I've used Hyptosis since 1996, soooooo 16 years, more than half my life I've used it.

Hope you find it helpful!
If you have your own tips, I'd like to hear them as well!

Someone should write an opposite article for programmers now. :P
Going to be doing some background drawings for a game project at http://www.livestream.com/hyptosis if anyone is interested.

Cause the design and layout of those characters on the backgrounds feels the same as in other games you've done.
Hey guys, thanks! Yeah, they're for an upcoming game, it will take place in the same 'universe' as my Wayfinder games, however the gameplay will be considerably different considering both of those games were huge failures. :P

Drawing the figure with shapes is something I've never been good at. I mean, I think understand shapes is super important, but when I try to use shapes, well, they the pose and figure often turn out looking really stiff. Like these. I usually kind of use my own 'invented' shapes, like I use a bean/flour sack shape for the torso, and sort of just 'eye ball' it form there most of the time. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. In all my years I've never found a method that works every time. I guess that is just part of it, keep redrawing it until it works.
Anyhow, my horrible attempts.
Here is my catch up work :P

I love how you use some pretty bold lines but still keep it painterly. And you're always so good at making the characters feel alive.
Yeah you're probably right. haha :P I'll go add a razor in her hand :P
