Yah, I know :) No worries, I probably would've thought the same thing.

When I came down this morning to check on the forum, I was excited to see all the votes but cringed inwardly because of what it looked like and what I knew everyone would think.

Trust me, if I was going to try to be sneaky, I wouldn't be that dumb about it ;)

Woohoo! Am I allowed to vote for a game that I made? Hmm, if so I guess I'll vote for

I like it the best because it turned out pretty much exactly as I intended. The only thing I'm disappointed in at this point is that it seems our hiscore provider (armorbot) is having some sort of issue - scores have been up and down over the past couple of months. I also never got around to making all the secret bonus levels I had wanted to but there's one in there.

Thanks for nominating me! :) I am a happy panda.

Tom, my vote goes to:

I've always loved games with simple concepts that are executed in a styilstic (read: retro!) way. The kickass music helps, too.

Posted: 09/21/09 12:19 PM

Forum: Where is / How to?

Hey everyone - I'm having an issue with icons as well.. slightly different. I want to update the icon for one of my old submissions but when I go in to edit the submission, the icon entry field isn't there at all. I know I used to be able to do this because I've edited icons in the past - has this functionality been removed?

Thanks!

Is it possible to be un-scouted? I was scouted about a week ago when I posted up a big batch of my art and now it's popping up with "this user has not been scouted yet" again. Is this just a glitch on newgrounds or can you really be unscouted?

Thanks! That sounds pretty cool... unfortunately, I probably should have posted this question a while ago.. I've already started receiving submissions as the deadline is only a week away, so it's too late to get people to change their code that drastically.

Failing that, is there any other simple way? This seems like something that should be drag and drop, but it's looking like I'm going to have to sift through everyone's code troubleshooting wacky glitches.

Hey everyone!

I'm currently working on assembling a collab of flash mini games, but I've run into a problem.

How do you properly embed .swf files into your main .fla? I've done a bunch of searching on this subject, and come up with the following code time and time again:

_root.createEmptyMovieClip("container", 1);
loadMovie("externalmovie.swf", "container");
container._x = 0 ;
container._y = 0 ;

and also to put this._lockroot = true into your external movie's fla to get it to work right. There are a couple problems still, however.

1) The external game .swf's still don't run properly. they start up ok, but freeze or behave strangely when clicking on certain elements.
2) This method seems to require the external .swf to be in the same directory as the main one. How do we do that when submitting to Newgrounds? I figure there must be an easier way.

Any help would be greatlyappreciated.

Thanks everyone!

Please give the artists the option to restrict the zoomy thing and it'll be alright ;)

I agree with thethingy5 - I think this new layout has a lot of potential but needs some work. That zoom feature worries me as well; I've always liked how newgrounds didn't allow for this as some of my games experience graphical glitches when the size is altered.

I also really like the old Newgrounds view window, it was quite stylish - I find the game pages kind of lose a bit of class when the game is just up right away like that.

The deadline is June 30th. Please read over this entire thread for all the rules and details.. they've been updated a couple of times since the original post. :)

Of particular importance is that we're using flash 7 and actionscript 2.

4urentertainment: That's fine with me! As long as it's convincing as a Game & Watch simulator. For even more examples of other simulators, please check out Madrigal's Handheld Simulators. And remember.. no fluid motion! ;)

SeaDevilKing: Usually, Game B is a bit more difficult than Game A, either by being faster, or having slight modifications to the gameplay. (Basically, they're easy mode and hard mode). Although most Game & Watch type games had this feature, it's certainly not a requirement for this collab.

EteJuano: Although my focus is on games, I'm accepting a couple of movies so you can certainly submit an animation as long as you keep to the sizing limits. I have one free movie spot left (I'm going to have 2 easter egg movies), so if you want it, it's yours!

4urentertainment,

Unfortunately, that doesn't really fit with the collab at all. You'd have to shrink it, make a casing for it, remove the fluidity of movement (G&W had predetermined locations for every sprite, and the movement was stilted).

So it would need a lot of work before it was a Game & Watch. Make sure to go through all the collab rules and look at my 2 game & watch games for examples. There are also tons of info pages on Game & Watch games out there that you can google for more info.

And of course, if you have any questions, you know where to find me :)

Sure thing, AntiAlias! We now have 2 easter egg movies so submissions for movies are now closed.

BUT! 2 game slots are still available!

p.s. what's stw? i don't think b.a. matters to contribute to a collab, it only matters if you're hosting a collab, so you should be fine.

Those graphics are perfect! :) Exactly what I'm looking for.

For anyone else looking for examples of graphics, here is a good site to look at. All of the games download and run on windows. :)

Just be sure to include the image of the handheld device itself as a border to make it a true simulation. Players should also have the option to use their mouse to click the on-screen buttons or to use the keyboard to play.

The question has come up as to what version of Flash to save your .swf as. To keep everything consistent, let's use Actionscript 2 and save as Flash 7. I usually use Flash 7 to keep my games Wii browser friendly, just incase.

In addition, the new deadline is June 30th.

Thanks everyone!

I'll be sending out PMs in the next couple of days to the participants with these and any other important final details, just to make sure everyone sees it.

Also, here is the up-to-date list of participants:

1) Holmfry(myself) - Menu, putting together the collab, Dodgeman game
2) Holmfry - God of War game
3) Near14 - Original Zelda multiscreen game
4) cainine-k9 - Remake of classic Judge game
5) 4urentertainment - game
6) rakan610 - Mario game
7) SeaDevilKing (tentative) - multiscreen game
8)
9)
10)
10.5) AIRYman50 - easter egg movie

3 slots left! Act now while supplies last ;)

SeaDevilKing: For multiscreen games, the limit would be 660 (width) x 800 (height). I've already increased the menu size to accomodate one other multiscreen, so you're good to go! What kind of game were you thinking of making?

AIRYman50: An easter egg movie would be wonderful! I got my sounds from this .zip file, hosted at Madrigal's handheld simulators. Basically, there are a ton of LCD simulators in that .zip, and in each one there is a sound directory. Tons of .wav files to browse through! Welcome aboard!

Hey! Glad to have you aboard, judge sounds cool ;)

Yup, it's in Actionscript 2. As for the background images, that's part of the game itself so you'd be on your own for that (it would be different for every game) but this site here is a great resource for Game & Watch, just printscreen and paste/play around in Photoshop.

Can't wait to see the results! Would it help if I just pushed back the date to end of June? I don't have many participants so I want to accomodate the ones I have as best I can.
