That's true. Perhaps with the Iraq situation, or maybe after it, they'll learn how to adapt weapons for urban combat better.
and like the XM8, it is constructed from mostly plastics and polymers that are susceptible to melting, breaking etc..
I certainly can see that point, but I would ask: Why would a polymer or polycarbonate weapon be more succeptible to breakage?
I do think the Tavors are sweet rifles, but you have to understand the effect it would have on the military as a whole.
Makes sense, makes sense. If the US military wants the '16, then they should keep it. But they should evaluate other weapons fairly, and not just go with the American one because it's American, among other things. I dunno – I'm not in the military (naturally), and all that I know comes from books.
Paintball is quite fun, I must say. Still, I would, or should I say should, have (the couple of times I've played) worn some sort of protective gear. See, I had this chronic problem of rarely getting a paintball to burst on me when I get hit.

But seriously, take a look at this: http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/gmap/hydesim.h tml
You can put in the lat/long of your locality and recieve a map of the effects of a nuke. Cool, huh?
Scary too.
About Switzerland. Apparently, "Two-thirds of the population live in the Swiss “Mittelland”" (middle land?) (http://www.greaterzuricharea.ch/default_en.a sp?pgn=/content/03/03_002en.asp), which was characterized as a plains-like area, not mountainous. Staff's probably right on the money for this.
Funk tends to win these sort of debates.
He is being quite rational about this – his argument is cogent.
Lol, true, true.
I was referencing the awesome fallout shelters. (And their defensive networks, but this site doesn't cover that.)

JFK made a brilliant move. Ballsy, too. He made sure that the Kennedy legacy of appeasement at Munich ended.

Paris hilton is no girl - she's a vagina with legs.
[sarcasm] Long, sultry legs. [/sarcasm]
Punishing pedos is fine, treating them is good too, but you have to assume that they're a threat.
Chemical castration laws are on the books and they seem to work. California has them (645 A under the link http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode ?section=pen&group=00001-01000&file=639-653.1 ), as does Florida (http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cf m?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=&URL =Ch0794/SEC0235.HTM&Title=-%3E2006-%3ECh0794-

Do that AND lock them up in mental facilities. For a long, long time.
Ah, yes the Tavor. It pwns what we had coming up the pipeline, that's for sure.
We should purchase those.
I don't know how civilized we actually are. Remember, we are the only Western power that executes criminals...That one little fact puts us in league with fundamentalist regimes like the Saudis...
For true. Blunt trauma alone would have killed the wearer...but it does prove strength.
I only wish I was callous enough to steal the sig.
:P
But seriously, it's a good sig.

It is, isn't it!
"[Resolved] That the President is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons."
Sounds as good as a declaration of war to me...
At 6/8/07 08:09 PM, cellardoor6 wrote: Why? What made you think the XM8 was better? Because it looks better?
It was built for modularity, firstly. Quick change barrels, add ons, etc. make the weapon much more functional. And it has universal components...not all the generations of the '16 are the same, apparently.
The Xm8 was actually a train wreck....
The prototype weighed 6.4 pounds. The M4 weighs 6.9 pounds with a 30 round magazine (5.9 pound weapon, 1.0 pound magazine). Also, "Unlike the current M-4 and M-16 direct gas system with gas tube, the XM8 gas system does not introduce propellant gases and carbon back into the weapon's receiver during firing." That seems good to me...

You've foiled my plans for domination!
But seriously, Posse is basically destroyed at this juncture. It's been screwed around with by the Insurrection act and the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000...plus Congress could get rid of it at will, as we know so well.
Posse Comitatus is often a hinderance, and the world's changed. We should probably have a federal gendarmerie at this point...

Not much snake dissecting going on in the 4th grade, lawl.
I can see it now......
I do see your point, Cellar, and I defer. But I will say that we should have stuck with the XM8 system.
Even in Pakistan, tribal justice is sort of in limbo. It's banned, but no one cares to enforce it.
It's not about morality or "family values." It's about making birth control and contraceptives available, as well as requiring sexual education that doesn't teach the impractical "abstinence only method," because kids just don't listen to that.

Yah, that's true. Though it depends on what sort of grade she'll teach, I mean, elementary school, probably not much to worry about, but if she's gonna teach AP Bio or some sort of anatomy class at the college preparatory level, well, yeah...

Assault rifles are for mobility and killing fast and accurately. I can't see why the 6.8 is so bad at that?
1) Troops can carry more rounds because they are lighter and smaller.
The 6.8 is only 1.24 mm longer than the 5.56 NATO. And the 6.8 SPC only weighs 7.45 grams, a significant increase over the 5.56 at about 4.02 grams, but when you look at velocity etc, the advantages of the 6.8 are apparent.
WOUNDS
Stopping power. Accuracy. Penetration capability.
So regardless, the 5.56 is just fine.
If we want to keep the 5.56, we should at least switch to the HK 416.
Being scared of snakes is rational, though...
I bet an anthropologist could explain ophidiophobia.
Uh, yeah...
The Garand was a battle rifle – it is unwieldy for urban combat, but a great weapon, yeah. After all, the M-14 is still being used.
The M16/4 family was an improvement in some aspects, but something like the HK416 would be much better given it's huge improvments and a weapon with a 6.8mm round would be great.
It would be, how shall I say it, interesting, at the least.
Smoking is something that should be restricted, naturally. Raising the legal age is intended to be a measure to prevent access. Naturally, it won't work, but it's a step in the right direction..
Let them enter legally – make it easier to enter legally (more security, but computerize it and work WITH Mexico's "security agencies")...Reenforcing the border is tough. The border patrol isn't what it should be and posse comitatus prevents military forces being used in a police role. If we could just repeal posse comitatus...
China isn't so big in favor of Kim, so, no. There's not going to be a war of any significance – even though we've been at war since the beginning of the Korean War, for, as it has been mentioned, the war hasn't technically ended.
If there was a war, Kim's forces would try to barrel through ROK and US units, but would be stopped, probably a bit south of the 38th in the worst case besides a nuclear scenario.
