am I doing something wrong? I am new to this.

I think he is saying you need more substance. I am new to all this as well, but as I have been browsing the forums I have noticed the threads with the most replay are the ones who offer the most content wise.
That is great that you have a script as ideas, a solid foundation! But unfortunately those characters aren't yours and sonic is a fairly popular character for parody. If you are truly passionate about this, I would begin putting your work in a visible form, or provide something to make this worth all these artists while.
Maybe offer your contact information so you can provide the script to people? So far you are asking people to work on a blind eye... That just won't work.
I only say this as you asked why and this is my own personal feelings towards your post.
Good luck!

Thanks
I'm pretty horrible at actually doing backgrounds, so the simplicity of this one is what made it for me.

Hey everyone!
Its been a while, and I couldn't get things to work properly in my last thread so I started a new one.
I love constructive criticism, and this one is at the point where I am happy to open it up.
Can't wait to hear your feedback!

One thing I would love is more information about drawing water, thanks!

This is for an art challenge (with myself) that I've started

Not done yet, I still have a ton of shading and coloring to go. But essentially its my character in what I call "The DNA Forest"

Hey guys, I've been working on this (just calling it a night)
Thoughts so far?
It would be great to have some tips while Im making progress.
It looks more and more like adventure time, not too sure I'm fond of that...

That is a great point, although I feel he is showing pain in the first, it is more done by body language then his face.
I'll research that.
Actually, if we're going for the painful look, have both of his eyes be squinting. As only one eye is squinted and one is open, it sort of confuses the look, but if you have them both squinted, the pain is more emphasized.

Very true, one eye would be more of a "squeemish" look would it not? As if hes looking at something rather than feeling.

Although the second one came before the first, I do agree. I had no idea, in fact I hadn't even thought about it. In the first picture I gave it minimal thought, I could have put more effort into it. But the fact that you noticed shows how important it is. So thanks for the input, even if you feel it was minimal!

This has been a very eye opening thread for me guys, thanks a lot. Keep'em coming if you have'em! Otherwise I can't wait to get my next drawing on here for some protips :D!
On that note, should I just use this thread or start a new one when that day does come? (I'm fairly new to using the NG forums)

Also yea, I totally see the Adventure Time look, and it is a large inspiration for me. I cut myself off from the show so I don't copy it any more. hahaha! That is also something I hear quite a bit.
Any recommended books or tutorials of faces in that style?

I appreciate the feedback but this character actually has a story already layed out for him. You will be seeing some castles in the future though :)!!!
It is true about weapons, it gives more flare! Currently in my scripts I have not implemented many, but I'm glad to hear feedback, I'll start sketching some weapons :)!

Keep it up guys please, this is really helpful!

Here is a picture I did a while back. Same character, pretty DBZ-esc and not related to my current story at all. But I figured why not (Maybe I did something here you guys can reference to do again?)

Thanks man, that is really great to keep in mind. I have noticed different shadows reflecting the colours of the setting. Like, instead of using a darker shade of the same colour; use reds, blues, greens?
Not sure if I'm wording that correctly.

Anybody have any tips for scenery / backgrounds?

Response to: My newest work, criticism welcome Posted July 17th, 2013 in Art

Here is another one of the same character from about a week ago.
This was the first time I really got into colour. Before this I had been using very light colours that did not flow nicely.

Hey guys!
This is a character I have been creating for a short series. Im not an avid artist, but I've been giving it a lot of effort lately.
Backgrounds are very new to me, so even the fact that I am using colour in a background makes me pretty proud.... but I don't know where to go with them from here?
What would be a next step to learning and practicing backgrounds?
I'd love some feedback, thanks for checking it out!
