4.09 / 5.00 15,161 ViewsI have a few comments I thought I'd share. First of all, the shape of the figure is not clearly defined. What I mean is when I tried to outline the silhouette of the character I ended up with a blob, more or less. I'd suggest you should try to have a good understanding over what shape your character is before you start clothing them up. Make the clothes fit around the character, not the other way around.
Another thing is the image has two "layers" so to speak, and nothing inbetween. The front layer is the grass and the character, while the background is the gradient. The problem is then that the image lacks depth and ends up looking flat. If you're aiming to draw so that it seems like a three-dimensional space, you might want to try to avoid flat "layers" like that.
Thirdly, the colours are glaringly over-saturated. Since you've picked a dark blue for your sky colours, I'm presuming you want it to look like night time. The problem is, the bright green grass breaks against that idea, and makes it look a bit cartoony and silly. I'd recommend doing a quick read on colour theory, and work on integrating different brightness and saturation in your compositions.
I believe stuff like the shading and inconsistent style will sort of work itself out with enough practice. I'd also recommend starting on new stuff and try to work in whatever comments you get on that instead of picking away at the same thing for too long.
Here's this, inspired from this
I liked your colour scheme so here's a quick, shameless copy

For the love of god, make it a rule that every non-image post will be deleted after a day or so. I think some form of communication is good, but when a page is 28/30 it just gets in the way.
If someone wants to impact the story, they should draw a response, not post "I have everything-proof-shield1!"

Otherwise, I do volunteer work at a jazz forum with all kinds of fun concerts and everything.

If you (rightfully) think that messing with the colours with the three single colour layers is tedious, you can achieve the same effect by using a gradient map adjustment layer, and putting it on top of your layers.
The "Create Adjustment Layer" button is at the bottom of the layers panel, and "Gradient Map..." is towards the bottom of the drop down menu that follows.
The gradient map is simpler to understand and alter than the blending mode layers. Dark colours will be replaced by the left side of the gradient, and light colours will be replaced by the right side of the gradient.

You can create a layer on top of your drawing, fill it with a solid colour, and set the blending mode to "Colour". Additional solid fill layers with blending mode "Darken" and "Lighten" can be used to shift the light and dark tones respectively.

I notice a few issues you might want to work out.
The motif inside the text is disrupting the legibility of the text itself. I'd suggest using a more neutral and uniform composition so the text is easier to read. You most likely want to avoid using black in the drawing so you can more easily separate the background from the text. In addition, the black line between "L" and "M" in Almagest is missing, so it's almost impossible to recognize it as "Almagest" unless one knows on beforehand what it's supposed to read.
You should also consider adjusting the leading so it matches either the kerning, or the space left inside some of the characters. You may also want to align the text in straight lines.
As you can see below, it's much more readable once you clear out the insides and put in the line between L and M, and I daresay it works fine on its own without anything inside taking up attention.
If you need anything inside, make sure it doesn't make the text hard to read.

I think the whole locking threads for being in the wrong forum is a bit dumb. In these times when people complain about there not being enough interesting threads, you'd think locking threads that could potentially lead to some interesting discussion, would be a bad idea.

The NG background is the texture Asandir linked, but the closest colour you get is #100c0d
I remember it as "one-hundred - call of duty"
Not using anti-aliasing will lead to pixely edges (which can be cool in it's own way). If you want smooth edges on your text, or in subtle glows or fading effects, you'll need to mess around a bit.
Since .gif only supports binary transparency, and no gradient inbetween, you'll need to fix the levels of transparency yourself. There's probably multiple ways of doing that, and the most correct techniques would have to take into account that the background is a texture rather than a solid colour.
However, the way I go about it is fairly straight forward. Working in photoshop, after you've readied your document with a transparent background, go File -> "Safe for Web ..." (ctrl+alt+shift+S). Make sure you select file format GIF, check on transparency, and select "#100c0d" as matte.
I think I've went on for longer than I intended with this already. If you've got questions about the technicalities feel free to ask.
I guess it has something to do with the kind of people that show up here.
NG being primarily a flash showcase hub, you'll get mindless consumers as well as some creative people looking to make their own stuff. The latter will gather in the creative forums, while the former might find general and video games forum more attractive.
I guess it would depend on how early the combat would take place. If the Aztec can find the Romans right off the bat, the Romans are fucked since the healing bonus jaguars gets can be pretty insane. Now, bare in mind the Romans will most likely go for rapid expansion, so look out for sneaky settlers as you take their last city.
Now, playing as the Romans if you get a good defence going to protect against the inevitable Aztec DoW, and manage to stall it into the classical era, you've got a good shot at fighting back. Efficient use of the legion roads, as well as the added attack strength in both ballistas and legions means you can easily siege back once you've taken care of most of the Aztec units. Three or four ballista shots on a city hits pretty hard, and afterwards the legions can just walk in and puppet/annex!

Admittedly, I don't know very much about the subject, and the general tone of the thread seems to suggest there can be permanent changes to way of thought. I don't know if that's for better or worse, but eh.
Either way, if you're looking to break down your perception of reality, or get to the bottom of your illusion, I'd suggest reading psychology related literature. Hypnosis could possibly help if you're looking for something specific, but I suppose finding people or resources for that can be a bit tricky, and sources may or may not be dubious.

If you're looking for an excuse to yourself to use drugs, this is not a particularly good one.
Your perception is your reality. If your perception is based on an illusion, it's still your reality. Psychoactive drugs might affect your perception temporarily, but may not be a healthy endeavour in terms of literal health and eventual run-ins with the law.
The question is, even if reality turns out to be an illusion; So what?
Your perception of reality won't change, and everything you feel and perceive is very real in that sense.
I don't know where you got "Reality is an illusion" from, but does it really matter either way?
